Rueben's Ramblings

The fall season is upon us and that means not only lots of shows to watch but also some fresh new faces to discover. Some of the faces that I think viewers should pay a little extra attention to are the following actors and actresses:

James Wolk

James Wolk – James has the lead role in the new FOX drama Lone Star, about a charming Texas con man, who is married to a billionaire’s daughter but he also has a girlfriend. He is conning both of them and their families; but he desperately wants out and seems to think he can live both lives since he loves both of these woman. Lone Star will debut on September 20 at 9 PM on FOX. Some viewers might recognize James from his role in the 2008 Hallmark Hall of Fame TV movie Front of the Class.

Aly Michalka

Aly Michalka – Aly plays Marti, a rebellious college girl who swallows her pride to join the cheerleading team to get a scholarship, in the new CW series Hellcats which debuts tomorrow night, September 8, at 9 PM. Aly and her sister AJ are the sister duo from Radio Disney and will be seen in the upcoming box office release Easy A, starring Emma Stone.

Maggie Q

Maggie Q – Playing the titular character in the CW’s reboot of the Nikita franchise, Maggie Q is an ass-kicking troubled teen turned assassin turned adult renegade who is set on bringing down the secret branch of the CIA, known as Division, that trains young assassins. The series will premiere on September 9 at 9 PM. Her previous work includes the box office movies Live Free or Die Hard, Mission: Impossible III and Rush Hour 2.

Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw – They will play a married couple in the new NBC series Undercovers, who run a small catering company, but they have a big secret: they are retired spies who are called back into action to help a friend. The debut of the show is on September 22 at 8 PM. Boris was previously seen in the Showtime series Soul Food and the UPN series Second Time Around while Gugu has appeared in Doctor Who and the West End production of Hamlet, which starred Jude Law.

Jurnee Smollett

Jurnee Smollett – She will probably be the only good thing about the new CBS series The Defenders, which premieres on September 22 at 10 PM. Jurnee will play a new defense attorney, working alongside the characters portrayed by Jerry O’Connell and Jim Belushi. Viewers will remember her in this past season of Friday Night Lights and the box office movie The Great Debaters.
