TV Ratings

Despite a few Monday night shows airing repeats, there were still plenty of new episodes of the major networks dramas to watch during last night’s primetime hours.

Here is how the Monday night shows fared in the overall ratings:

9 PM Shows:
Scorpion (CBS) [NEW] – 9.2 million
The Following (FOX) [NEW] – 3.3 million

10 PM Shows:
NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) [NEW] – 9 million
Castle (ABC) [NEW] – 8.3 million

Aurora Teagarden A Bone to Pick

On April 4, the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries AND the Hallmark Channel will simultaneously air the new movie Aurora Teagarden: A Bone to Pick will air at 9 PM

A librarian with a sharp mind for murder, Aurora Teagarden (Candace Cameron Bure) is known around her small town as a master sleuth. When her friend Jane unexpectedly dies and leaves Aurora everything in her will, she also leaves a troubling murder mystery haunting her neighborhood. It is up to Aurora to piece together the clues, including a skull, its missing skeleton and a suspicious group of neighbors, and solve the murder before she becomes the unlikely killer’s next victim.

The movie also stars Marilu Henner (Taxi and Evening Shade) and Lexa Doig (Continuum).

Based on information provided by Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in April:

Furious 7
Opens: April 3

After defeating Owen Shaw and his crew, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (the late Paul Walker) and the rest of the crew are able to return to the United States and live the normal life again as they had wanted, but Owen’s older brother, Ian Shaw (Jason Statham), is after Dominic, seeking revenge for the death of his brother, putting the entire crew in danger once more. The cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Lucas Black, Elsa Patakay, Kurt Russell and Djimon Hounsou.

Last Knights
Opens: April 3

The film centers of a band of warriors who seek to avenge the loss of their master at the hands of a corrupt emperor. The cast includes Clive Owen, Morgan Freeman, Cliff Curtis, Ayelet Zurer and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Woman in Gold
Opens: April 3

This film tells the true story of the late Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren), an elderly Holocaust survivor living in Los Angeles who, together with her young lawyer, E. Randol Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), fought the government of Austria for almost a decade to reclaim Gustav Klimt’s iconic painting of her aunt, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, which was confiscated from her relatives by the Nazis in Vienna just prior to World War II. Altmann took her legal battle all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States, which ruled in her favor. The film also stars Katie Holmes, Tatiana Maslany, Max Irons, Elizabeth McGovern, Antje Traue and Frances Fisher.

Desert Dancer
Opens: April 10

Set in Iran, the story follows the ambition of Afshin Ghaffarian (Reece Ritchie) during the volatile climate of the 2009 presidential election, Afshin and some friends risk their lives and form an underground dance company. The group learned the dancing from videos of Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev even though the online videos were banned. Afhsin and Elaheh also learn much from each other and learned how to embrace their passion for dance and for one another. The cast also includes Freida Pinto, Simon Kassianides and Nazanin Boniadi.

Ex-Machina
Opens: April 10

A young programmer is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I. The film stars Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander.

The Longest Ride
Opens: April 10

Based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks, the film centers on the star-crossed love affair between Luke Collins (Scott Eastwood), a former champion bull rider looking to make a comeback, and Sophia Danko (Britt Robertson), a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in New York City’s art world. As conflicting paths and ideals test their relationship, Sophia and Luke make an unexpected connection with Ira (Alan Alda), whose memories of his own decades-long romance with his beloved wife deeply inspire the young couple. The cast includes Jack Huston, Melissa Benoist, Lolita Davidovich and Gloria Reuben.

Child 44
Opens: April 17

This film is set during Stalin’s Soviet Union rule, where a disgraced Ministry of State Security (MGB) Agent Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy) is tasked with uncovering a strange and brutal series of child murders. The cast includes Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Vincent Cassel, Jason Clarke and Dev Patel.

The Age of Adaline
Opens: April 24

After miraculously remaining 29 years old for almost eight decades, Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) has lived a solitary existence, never allowing herself to get close to anyone who might reveal her secret, save her one confidante, her now-elderly daughter Flemming (Ellen Burstyn). But a chance encounter with charismatic philanthropist Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman) reignites her passion for life and romance. When a weekend with his parents (Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker) threatens to uncover the truth, Adaline makes a decision that will change her life forever.

The Water Diviner
Opens: April 24

After the Battle of Gallipoli, in 1919, an Australian farmer, Connor (Russell Crowe), travels to Turkey to find his three missing sons. While staying at a hotel in Istanbul, he meets Ayshe (Olga Kurylenko), the hotel owner and he tries to find a way to Gallipoli. The film also stars Jai Courtney, Jacqueline McKenzie, Isabel Lucas and Deniz Akdeniz.

Movies coming out in May will be posted at the end of April.

Here is a list of all of the programming options to expect on TV this week:

Finding Carter will return for its second season on MTV on March 31 at 10 PM. That same night and continuing on April 1 will be the two-night event The Dovekeepers on CBS at 9 PM (both night). The four-hour miniseries event is based on the acclaimed historical novel by Alice Hoffman about four extraordinary women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada.

On April 2, the new Syfy drama Olympus will debut at 10 PM. The series focuses on the dangerous courage of a few brave men and women who banished the Gods to the realm of the unconscious – a place they called the Underworld or the Kingdom of Hades. Also on that night is the Sundance series The Red Road, which returns for its second season at 10 PM.

The Droughlander is over! Outlander will be back from its extended mid-season break on Starz on April 4 at 9 PM. Also on April 4 will be the simultaneously airing of the new made-for-TV movie Aurora Teagarden: A Bone to Pick, which will air at 9 PM on both Hallmark Movies and Mysteries AND the Hallmark Channel. On April 5, Salem will be back for season 2 on WGN America at 10 PM. That same night, the six-part PBS mini-series Wolf Hall will debut at 10 PM. Mark Rylance (Twelfth Night) and Damian Lewis (Homeland) will star as Thomas Cromwell and Henry VIII in this adaptation of the Hilary Mantel prize-winning novels, which charts the shrewd and brilliant rise of Cromwell in the Tudor court from a blacksmith’s son to Henry VIII’s closest advisor.

Also that night will find the third movie in the Lifetime V.C. Andrews film adaptations – If There Be Thorns – airing at 8 PM. This made-for-TV movie follows Christopher (Jason Lewis from Sex and the City and Brothers & Sisters) and Cathy Dollanganger (Rachael Carpani from McLeod’s Daughters and the short-lived Against the Wall) as they live together as man and wife with Cathy’s two sons who are unaware of the incestuous nature of their parents’ relationship. Following that movie on Lifetime will be the debut of the limited series The Lizzie Borden Chronicles at 10 PM. This 8-episode limited series will fictionalize actual events and people surrounding Lizzie Borden’s life after her controversial acquittal of the horrific double murder of her father and stepmother in 1892.

NBC will also debut two new dramas on April 5. First, there is the event series A.D. The Bible Continues, airing at 9 PM. This is the follow-up to the high-rated mini-series The Bible, chronicling the aftermath of Jesus’ crucifixion. And then at 10 PM there is American Odyssey, which follows Sgt. Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel from Pushing Daisies), a soldier, mother, wife and the unit’s only female member, who discovers computer files that suggest a major U.S. corporation is funding the Jihadists. But before she can tell anyone, her team is attacked and left for dead.

Olympus

The new Syfy drama Olympus will debut on April 2 at 10 PM.

The series focuses on the dangerous courage of a few brave men and women who banished the Gods to the realm of the unconscious – a place they called the Underwrold or the Kingdom of Hades.

The cast includes Matt Frewer (Orphan Black), Cas Anvar (Argo), Sonita Henry (The Fifth Element) and Graham Shiels (Guardians of the Galaxy).
