Outlander fans! We have a prequel on our hands.

While we wait – patiently?! – for Season 7 of Outlander to finish production and be ready for viewing (probably sometime in 2023 given how long Droughtlander usually lasts), the official confirmation was made by Starz that the prequel series entitled Outlander: Blood of My Blood has been put into development.

The prequel will be centered on the love story of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.

Here is the official statement from Starz (thanks to the folks at TV Line):

“Outlander is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world,” Starz’s President of Original Programming Kathryn Busby said in statement. “We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began. Matthew, Maril and Ronald will continue to bring their excellent vision and creativity to this new iteration, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.”

Since the show is in development, there are no announcements as to who will play the lead roles or any other roles for that matter, but you can bet that a lot of speculation will go into who will play those meaty roles.

What is known is that Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts will serve as writer and executive producer with Outlander author Diana Gabaldon serving as a consulting producer; and, of course, Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis also serving as executive producers.
