Billy Boyd

Just a few weeks ago, Outlander was renewed for two more seasons and three new promo pictures were released.

Now, major casting news has been announced for the upcoming season of Outlander. Those new cast members include:

Simona Brown

Billy Boyd (best known for the Lord of the Rings franchise) will play Gerald Forbes, a wealthy lawyer in Cross Creek who is friends with his prominent client, Jocasta Cameron (Maria Doyle Kennedy), Jamie’s aunt.

Caitlyn O’Ryan

Simona Brown (the A&E reimagined version of Roots) will play Gayle, the best friend and college roommate of Brianna (Jamie and Claire’s daughter).

Newcomer Caitlin O’Ryan will play Lizzie, a Scottish woman who goes on a big adventure with Brianna.

Natalie Simpson

Natalie Simpson (Les Miserables) will play Phaedre, the personal maid and seamstress for Jocasta, and is considered a trusted member of the River Run household.

Tim Downie

Tim Downie (The King’s Speech and Paddington) will play Governor William Tyron [an actual historical figure], the ambitious former British officer who used his family connections to land the position of governor.

As announced a few weeks ago, Outlander will premiere its 4th season on Starz sometime in November.

It’s that time of year again when the networks make their annual presentations in New York to the advertisers where they announce their proposed fall line-up and announce the new shows they have picked up.

Here is the breakdown for The CW:

Charmed – After the tragic death of their mother, three sisters in a college town are stunned to discover they are witches. Legacies – The spin-off to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals begins at The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. Klaus Mikaelson’s daughter, 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell from The Originals); Alaric Saltzman’s twins, Lizzie and Josie Saltzman (relative newcomer Jenny Boyd and Kaylee Bryant from Santa Clarita Diet); and other young adults come of age in the most unconventional way possible, nurtured to be their best selves… in spite of their worst impulses. Will these young witches, vampires and werewolves become the heroes they want to be – or the villains they were born to be? The cast includes Matt Davis (from the flagship series), newcomer Aria Shahghasemi and Quincy Fouse (The Goldbergs).

The new dramas picked up by The CW include Roswell, New Mexico and In the Dark. The returning dramas that will be back during mid-season include Jane the Virgin, iZombie and The 100.

Roswell, New Mexico – After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance. The cast includes Jeanine Mason (Grey’s Anatomy and Bunheads), Nathan Parsons (True Blood), Tyler Blackburn (Pretty Little Liars), Heather Hemmens (If Loving You Is Wrong), newcomer Michael Vlamis, Lily Cowles (Brain Dead), Karan Oberoi (Notorious), Michael Trevino (The Vampire Diaries) and Trevor St. John (Containment).

In the Dark – A flawed and irreverent blind woman is the only “witness” to the murder of her drug-dealing friend. After the police dismiss her story, she sets out with her dog, Pretzel, to find the killer while also managing her colorful dating life and the job she hates at the guide dog school owned by her overprotective parents. The cast includes Austin Nichols (One Tree Hill), Kathleen York (Jane the Virgin and The Client List), Derek Webster (NCIS: New Orleans and Ray Donovan), Keston John (Bosch) and Perry Mattfeld (Shameless).

The 2018-2019 will be final seasons for the dramas Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie. The much anticipated Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters was NOT picked up, and according to The CW president they, “did not feel that creatively the show was where (they) wanted it to be and we had a better shot with (the new drama) Legacies (the spin-off from The Vampires and The Originals).”

Magnum P.I. – This is a modern take on the classic series starring Jay Hernandez (The Expanse and Suicide Squad) as Thomas Magnum, a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum has Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks from Penny Dreadful) and her Dobermans to keep him in line, as well as his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors TC (Stephen Hill from Luke Cage) and Rick (Zachary Knighton from Happy Endings) when he needs back-up on a job.

God Friended Me – Brandon Micheal Hall (The Mayor) stars as Miles Finer, an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from God and unwittingly becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him. After repeated pokes by God, Miles’ curiosity takes over, and he accepts the ultimate friend request and follows the signs to Cara Bloom (Violett Beane from The Flash), an online journalist. Brought together by the “God Account,” the two find themselves investigating God’s friend suggestions and inadvertently helping others in need. The cast includes Joe Morton (Eureka and Scandal) and Suraj Sharma (Homeland and Life of Pi).

The following new dramas will air on CBS during mid-season:

The Red Line – The drama explores the events that transpire after a white cop in Chicago mistakenly shoots and kills a black doctor. The series follows three different families that all have connections with the case as the story is told from each perspective. The cast includes Noah Wyle (Falling Skies and ER), Emayatzy Corinealdi (Hand of God) and Noel Fisher (Shameless and The Long Road Home).

The Code – The drama explores the military’s brightest minds as they take on the country’s toughest challenges — inside the courtroom and out — where each attorney is trained as a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, an investigator — and a Marine. The cast includes Anna Wood (Falling Water), Ato Essandoh (Copper), Raffi Barsoumian (The Vampire Diaries) and Phillipa Soo (Broadway’s Hamilton).

If he can’t keep up with the young cops and the criminals, he’ll be risking lives including his own. But if he can use his life experience, determination, and sense of humor to give him an edge, he may just become a success in this new chapter of his life. The cast includes Richard T. The Fix – This new legal drama focuses on Maya Travis, an L.A. district attorney who suffers a devastating defeat when prosecuting an A-list actor for double murder. With her high profile career derailed, she flees for a quieter life in Oregon. Eight years later when this same celebrity is under suspicion for another murder, Maya is lured back to the DA’s office for another chance at justice. The new dramas picked up by FOX include The Passage and Proven Innocent, but they won’t air until the mid-season.

The Passage – Based on author Justin Cronin’s best-selling trilogy the series will focus on Project Noah, a secret medical facility where scientists are experimenting with a dangerous virus that could lead to the cure for all disease, but also carries the potential to wipe out the human race. When a young girl, Amy Bellafonte (Saniyya Sidney from Fences and Hidden Figures) is chosen to be a test subject, Federal Agent Brad Wolgast (Mark-Paul Gosselaar from Pitch) is the man who is tasked with bringing her to Project Noah. Ultimately, however, Wolgast becomes her surrogate father, as he tries to protect her at any cost. The cast includes Caroline Chikezie (The Shannara Chronicles), Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire), Jamie McShane (Sons of Anarchy), Brianne Howey (The Exorcist) and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage).

Proven Innocent – The series follows an underdog criminal defense firm led by Madeline Scott (Rachelle Lefevre from Under the Dome), a fierce and uncompromising lawyer with a hunger for justice. There is no one who understands the power of setting an innocent person free more than Madeline. At age 18, she was wrongfully convicted, along with her brother, Levi (Riley Smith, from Frequency and Life Sentence), in a sensational murder case that made her an infamous media obsession, a household name and a national cause célèbre. Madeline runs the firm with her partner, Easy Boudreau (Russell Hornsby from Grimm), the very lawyer who helped set her free after seven years in prison. The series also stars Vincent Kartheiser from Mad Men), Nikki M. James (Tony Award winner) and Brian d’Arcy James (Smash and 13 Reasons Why).

The Orville and Gotham will both return for new seasons during the mid-season as well.

There are no significant updates for new seasons of Prison Break and 24; both are in early development. There are also no plans for more episodes of The X-Files.

The drama Good Girls will return during mid-season as will the following new dramas:

The Village – This drama is about an apartment building in Brooklyn that appears like any other from the outside but is quite unique inside. The people who reside here have built a bonded family of friends and neighbors. Sarah’s a nurse and single mom raising a creative teen; Gabe’s a young law student who got a much older and unexpected roommate; Ava must secure the future of her young, U.S.-born son when ICE comes knocking; Nick’s a veteran who’s returned from war; and the heart and soul of the building, Ron and Patricia, have captivating tales all their own. These are the hopeful, heartwarming and challenging stories of life that prove family is everything — even if it’s the one you make with the people around you.

The cast includes Moran Atias (Tyrant and The Resident), Warren Christie (Alphas), Frankie Faison (The Wire and Banshee), Jerod Haynes (Benji and Empire), Daren Kagasoff (The Secret Life of the American Teenager), Michaela McManus (SEAL Team) and Lorraine Toussaint (Rosewood and Into the Badlands).

The Enemy Within – In this fast-paced, spy-hunting thriller, Erica Shepherd (Jennifer Carpenter) is a brilliant former CIA operative, now known as the most notorious traitor in American history serving life in a Supermax prison. Against every fiber of his being but with nowhere else to turn, FBI Agent Will Keaton (Morris Chestnut) enlists Shepherd to help track down a fiercely dangerous and elusive criminal she knows all too well. For Keaton, it’s not easy to trust the woman who cost him so much. While Shepherd and Keaton have different motivations for bringing the enemy to justice, they both know that to catch a spy… they must think like one.

The cast includes Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter), Morris Chestnut (Rosewood), Raza Jaffrey (Smash and Lost in Space) and Kelli Garner (Pan Am).

The InBetween – Cassie Bishop was born with a gift, though she may call it a curse. She can see and communicate with the dead, helping them with their unresolved problems … whether she likes it or not. When her longtime friend Det. Tom Hackett and his new partner, former FBI Agent Damien Asante, need help solving a darkly puzzling murder, Cassie agrees to use her abilities. Despite her reluctance, she may have found a way to keep her demons at bay, all while solving some of the city’s most challenging cases.

The cast includes Harriet Dyer (the Australian series Love Child), Anne-Marie Johnson (In the Heat of the Night), Cindy Luna (The Last Ship), Chad James Buchanan (Star) and Paul Blackthorne (Arrow).

A decision has yet to be made on the time-travel drama Timeless, though.

Starz announced today that Outlander has been given a two-season renewal, taking the show into its sixth season. Both new seasons will consist of 12 episodes each.

The upcoming fourth season of Outlander will premiere in November.
