As we are now a month into the new fall TV season, I have been reporting on the ratings every day for the dramas on the major networks, but now it is time to focus on the cable series. While there are currently not as many cable shows on the air in comparison to the major networks, there are still a handful of shows to follow.

Here are the month-long results for those shows:

Sons of Anarchy – The series has aired 6 episodes since its return on September 7, garnering an audience of 4.1 million, 3.4 million, 3.5 million, 3 million, 3.1 million and 2.9 million for its 6 airings; giving it an average of 3.3 million viewers over the course of its run so far. A new episode will air this coming Tuesday at 10 PM.

Terriers – The new FX series has also aired 6 episodes since its debut on September 8; but it has not performed as well in the ratings, receiving less than 1 million viewers every week except for its premiere, which garnered 1.6 million viewers. The show’s average viewership is currently at 783,000 viewers. A new episode will air this coming Wednesday at 10 PM.

Boardwalk Empire – The new HBO series hit big in the ratings on its premiere night on September 19, hitting 7.1 million viewers; but in the subsequent three weeks that have followed it reached 3.3 million, 4.8 million and 2.6 million. The show’s average is 4.5 million viewers.

NOTE: A new episode of Boardwalk Empire aired tonight (October 17), but those numbers won’t be available for several days after that airing.

Dexter – The show has aired for three weeks, getting viewership of 1.8 million, 1.7 million and 1.9 million for those three weeks. The show’s average is 1.8 million viewers.

NOTE: Again, a new episode of Dexter aired tonight (October 17), and those ratings will be available a few days after that airing.

Stargate Universe – The show has only been back for two weeks, garnering 1.2 million viewers for both airings. A new episode will air this Tuesday at 9 PM.

Caprica – Much like its Tuesday night companion, Stargate Universe, Caprica has only aired two episodes with less than stellar ratings results. Each night has garnered less than 1 million viewers; in fact, the return episode garnering under 900,000 viewers with the second airing dropping down to about 840,000 viewers. A new episode will air this Tuesday at 10 PM.

Sanctuary – The show just returned with its season premiere airing this past Friday (October 15). The ratings results for that airing should be available in a few days.

I will do my best to report at least once a month on the progress of the ratings for the cable shows. If you have any questions about these shows, please drop me an email.

I am starting a new series of articles, which I hope to have posted once a month, spotlighting actors who do more than just act in TV and/or movies. The first spotlight will be on actor/singer Christian Kane.

Christian Kane may be a well-known actor now thanks to his role as Eliot Spencer in the popular TNT series Leverage, but it is his singing ambitions that are garnering him even more attention.

But let’s take a look at where Christian got started. He was born in Dallas, Texas in June of 1974. Due to his family being in the oil business, they moved often, but eventually the family settled in the small town of Norman, Oklahoma.

Christian Kane - Early In His Career

Christian was always interested in films and music and while in college the dream of a career in the entertainment industry grew and he headed off to Los Angeles. He landed a job as an assistant at an entertainment company, where he told them he would deliver scripts if they would submit him for projects too. In 1997, he was cast in his first big role in the short-lived TV series FAME L.A., based on the hit movie and the popular 1980’s TV series. Originally he was cast as a comedian, but after he sang for the producers, his part was rewritten as a singer.

It was around this time that Christian met Steve Carlson, who became his songwriting partner. They founded the band KANE and were soon playing at clubs like The Viper Room and The Mint, becoming well known in Los Angeles for their high-energy performance on stage and original songwriting.

Christian continued to get work, appearing in the short-lived WB series Rescue 77 and landing a small role in the box office movie Edtv. But it was his role in the popular WB series Angel, playing lawyer Lindsey McDonald, that put him on the map. He was a recurring character in three of the show’s five seasons.

Christian Kane - Angel

He appeared in two films in 2000; the first being The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy, the first feature film by now executive producer extraordinaire Greg Berlanti, starring Timothy Olyphant and Dean Cain and the second was Love Song, starring R&B artist Monica.

Over the course of the next four years, he made appearances in the TV shows Dawson’s Creek and Las Vegas, had roles in the box office movies Summer Catch, Life or Something Like It, Just Married, Secondhand Lions, Taxi and Friday Night Lights and he appeared in the made-for-TV movies Crossfire Trail and The Crooked E: The Unshredded Truth About Enron.

More work came his way during 2005 and 2006, including the TV mini-series Into the West, the motion pictures Her Minor Thing and Keep Your Distance and he did voice work on the video game 24: The Game.

He then had a lead role in the CBS TV series Close to Home for a short time before appearing in the independent film Four Sheets to the Wind. He appeared in the Carrie Underwood music video “So Small” in 2007 and then landed his lead role in Leverage.

Christian Kane

All the while, Christian continued to perform with Carlson as KANE, receiving airplay from LA country radio and eventually being voted the winner of the Country Thunder Young Guns Contest and playing numerous sold out shows in LA. The two made regular trips to Nashville to hone their writing skills, collaborating with some of the best songwriters in the world. This led to Christian being signed to a publishing deal with EMI Music Publishing and later a record deal with Columbia Records. While he recorded a full album with Columbia, he parted ways with the record label, ending up with Bigger Picture Group, releasing his first self-titled EP this past March.

Besides his work on Leverage, which will be returning for a few episodes this December on TNT, Christian appeared in the psychological thriller Hide and he is set to play a lead role in the horror thriller Death Walks the Street, for which he will also serve as co-executive producer.

UPDATED:  Christian’s first music video for his hit song “The House Rules” was released this month on CMT.  You can see that video here.

You can learn more about Christian and his music here. You can also purchase his EP at iTunes.

Hey All,

It’s Friday, it’s Friday, it’s Friday! Can you tell I’m happy it’s finally Friday? I hope whatever you’ve got planned with friends and/or family for this weekend goes great. I’ll be holed up at my place, going through all the shows and movies on my DVR, trying to get caught up while getting as much writing done as possible.

In the meantime, here are the news items for today:

TELEVISION

Oscar winner Louise Fletcher, who played Jack Nicholson’s stern caretaker in the box office movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, has been cast as Pete’s mother on Private Practice. She will appear in Episode 9. (Natalie Abrams at TV Guide)

No Ordinary Family will move to Tuesdays at 9 PM from November 30 to December 14 and then back to 8 PM in time for V to return to the TV line-up on January 4 at 9 PM. (Twitter)

Life Unexpected has received an order for two additional scripts. (Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly)

Necar Zadegan, who played the wife of IRK President Omar Hassan in the final season of 24, will play a mysterious character named Isabelle in a potential recurring role in The Event. (Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly)

Looks like Prison Break star Wentworth Miller has expressed interest in replacing Andy Whitfield as the lead in the gladiator drama Spartacus: Blood & Sand on Starz. This is speculation right now, but if true Miller will need to buff up for the role. (Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly)

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES

John Heard and Evan Handler (Sex and the City) have joined the cast of the HBO film Too Big to Fail, which dissects the 2008 financial crisis and the power brokers who decided the fate of the world’s economy as the system teetered on collapse. Heard will play former Lehman Brothers president Joe Gregory, while Handler will portray Lloyd Blankfein, CEO and Chairman of Goldman Sachs. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

Kathy Baker (Picket Fences) has joined the Lifetime pilot Against the Wall, which is a family drama set in Chicago, following policewoman Abby Kowalski (Rachael Carpani), who causes a rift with her three cop brothers when she decides to join the department’s Internal Affairs division. Baker will play Abby’s mother, a Chicago cop’s wife. Treat Williams was recently cast to play the father. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)

ABC Family has opted not to move forward with Strut, a potential pilot about a Las Vegas showgirl-turned-drill team instructor. (Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly)

Looks like ABC and Marvel are developing a TV return for the Incredible Hulk. Meanwhile, another “hot property” is the possible show for ABC Family called Cloak and Dagger. No other specifics are available at this time. (Borys Kit and James Hibberd at The Hollywood Reporter)

BOX OFFICE NEWS

Amy Adams (Julie & Julia), Chris Cooper (The Town) and Rashida Jones has joined Jason Segel in the next new box office movie starring The Muppets. The story follows a reunion of the Muppets to put on a show in order to save a movie studio. Segel is playing the lead human character with Adams taking the role of his girlfriend who joins him in his quest to gather the Muppets. Meanwhile, Cooper plays a greedy villain who aims to buy the studio just to dig for oil buried underneath it and apparently has never found the Muppet gang to be funny at all. Jones takes the role of an ABC executive. (First Showing and Heat Vision)

It looks like The Hobbit has finally been greenlit with production to start in February with Peter Jackson at the helm as director. Jackson has also agreed to produce and write this two-part project. (Sharon Waxman at The Wrap)

That’s it. Enjoy!

Have a terrific weekend!
