By now most everyone knows that the CW decided to delay the returns of both Smallville and Supernatural until next week and, at the last minute, the folks at Syfy pulled the new episode of Merlin, delaying it until next week as well. There was only one new show on Friday night – Fringe – and the rest were, of course, repeats or encores. Here is how all of last night’s dramas fared in the overall ratings race:
8 PM Shows:
NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) [repeat] – 7.7 million
The Vampire Diaries (The CW) [Encore] – 1.3 million
9 PM Shows:
Fringe (FOX) [NEW] – 4.6 million
CSI: NY (CBS) [repeat] – 8.2 million
Nikita (The CW) [Encore] – 1.1 million
10 PM Show:
Hawaii Five-0 (CBS) [repeat] – 7.2 million

Why is everything a repeat right now? I was so looking forward to another new Castle, especially after the last episode, just to see that it is a “re-air”. Again! How do they expect people to stay interested (not that I won’t watch a repeat of Castle because I will.)
Unfortunately, it’s just that time of year where the networks air repeats. February is nearly here, which means February sweeps so there will be repeats, but be forewarned that March is usually repeats too, as they networks gear up for the final push of new episodes at the end of March through April and leading into season finales in May. It’s just the vicious cycle that has been in place for far too long.
