In the season finale of Castle, Captain Montgomery (Ruben Santiago Hudson) sacrificed his own life to save Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), leaving a gaping hole at the precinct.
Recent news has it that the “powers that be” at the show are considering casting for a new Captain. It is also being said that the creative team are thinking about casting a woman of color in the role. With that thought in mind, I decided to create my own list of potential contenders for the role:
Shohreh Aghdashloo
Shohreh Aghdashloo – Best known for her recurring role in the fourth season of the FOX drama 24, Shohreh would make a strong, competent Captain, who wouldn’t take any crap from anyone, but would also seem to be fair and compassionate.
Lisa Edelstein
Lisa Edelstein – After dealing with Dr. Gregory House for seven seasons, whatever character Lisa would end up playing would be able to handle any odd quirk in their character or irrational behavior. It would also be great to see her play something other than a doctor.
Angela Bassett
Angela Bassett – Angela is a strong woman who can easily handle any level of drama, but it certainly would be great to see her handle the, more often than not, outrageously silly circumstances for which Castle and Beckett find themselves in on a regular basis.
Jasmine Guy
Jasmine Guy – She proved her comedic worth in The Cosby Show spin-off A Different World, made a hilariously Grim Reaper in Dead Like Me and was a convincing witch on The Vampire Diaries; now maybe it’s time to see her as a kick-ass, no-nonsense cop.
