Falling Skies

The new TNT series Falling Skies will have a two-hour debut at 9 PM on June 19. The series will then move to its regular timeslot on Sundays at 10 PM the following week.

This is a Steven Spielberg sci-fi drama about the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force. The cast includes Noah Wyle (ER), who plays Tom Mason, a Boston history professor, Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) as Anne Glass, a pediatrician who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic upheaval in their lives, Will Patton (Armageddon) who plays Weaver, a fierce leader of the resistance.

The cast also includes Drew Roy (Hannah Montana and Secretariat) as Tom’s oldest son, Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Tom’s youngest son; Connor Jessup (The Saddle Club) as Tom’s son who was captured by aliens; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds and The Last Airbender) as an orphaned teenager who helps Anne in the group’s makeshift medical clinic. Colin Cunningham (Stargate SG-1) and Sarah Carter (Shark) also star.

Here is the official trailer for Falling Skies.

In this ongoing article series, I will be highlighting fellow bloggers who are working hard to provide news, reviews and coverage on entertainment and television.

This month’s spotlight is on Elizabeth “Liz” Randall, who runs the website ThinkWatchThink.

Liz first started out writing “episode guides” of her favorite shows back when she was hooked on the cult classic series Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. She eventually moved onto the Internet and her website ThinkWatchThink is what came out of ten years of “puttering around”.

Her love of serialized storytelling has gravitating her towards television over movies because she gets to watch the characters develop and change over time. She organizes her reviews into show guides, allowing her to go in and read the story from start to finish.

Her favorite genres are supernatural and science fiction with her all-time favorite shows being Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Farscape with her current favorite show being The Vampire Diaries. She is also a fan of Highlander, Firefly and a little known show called Roar that starred a then unknown (the late) Heath Ledger.

Currently she is covering Glee and The Vampire Diaries while attempting to put up coverage of five season of Stargate: SG-1. Her current guilty pleasure is Make It or Break It and she is anxious for the new Spartacus series to begin airing and looks forward to watching (and covering) The Secret Circle and Ringer this fall.

Liz has a lot of show guides at her site so if you’d like to relive shows like those mentioned over (among others), please visit ThinkWatchThink here.

Hey All,

Happy Friday Everybody! Hope everyone has some fun plans for this weekend, or at least have plans to sit back and just relax. Whatever you are going to be doing – enjoy. In the meantime, please check out the news items for today:

TELEVISION

Actor James Frain (The Cape and True Blood) will guest star in an upcoming episode of Burn Notice, which returns for a new season on June 23. Frain will play the powerful owner of a pharmaceutical company responsible for several medical breakthroughs who runs his business with extreme security, and is willing to go to great lengths to protect its secrets. (Entertainment Weekly)

Actors Kyle Howard (My Boys) and Wilmer Valderrama (That 70’s Show) will be showing up on episodes of Royal Pains, which returns for a new season starting on June 29. Howard will appear in multiple episodes playing Paul Van Dyke, a cocky doctor with whom Divya (Reshma Shetty) must contend once she begins her new (secret) job at Hamptons Heritage. Meanwhile, Valderrama will also have a multi-episode arc playing Eric, an art gallery owner who takes a liking to Paige’s (Brooke D’Orsay) work and quite possibly more. (Matt Mitovich at TV Line)

It looks like the three men behind Glee (Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan) are finally getting some help. They have hired some new staff, who will hopefully allow the show to return to a more creative completeness. The new staff includes Allison Adler (Chuck and No Ordinary Family) who will be a co-executive producer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (the Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark musical) as co-producer, Marti Noxon (Buffy and Angel veteran ) and Michael Hitchcock will both be consulting producers and Matt Hodgson and Ross Maxwell as staff writers. (Deadline)

MADE FOR TV MOVIE NEWS

Actress Laura Prepon (That 70’s Show) and country singer Naomi Judd will star in the Lifetime TV movie called The Killing Game, based on the best-seller by Iris Johansen. Prepon will play Eve Duncan, the popular heroine of the thriller, who 10 years after the disappearance and murder of her 7-year-old daughter Bonnie, is contacted by a man claiming to be her killer. Taunted by his clues about Bonnie’s case and his threats to kill again, she throws herself into her career as a forensic sculptor and works to close the case. Naomi Judd will co-star as Eve’s mother, Sandra Duncan. (The Hollywood Reporter)

BOX OFFICE NEWS

Actor Luke Evans (who will be seen in The Three Musketeers and this fall’s Immortals) will appear in the much-anticipated upcoming movie The Hobbit, playing Bard the Grim, who is a skilled archer and the heir of King Girion of Dale. (Deadline)

Actor Logan Lerman has signed on to reprise his role of Percy Jackson in the planned sequel to the film adaptation of the books by Rick Riordan. The sequel is to be called Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, based on the book. It follows Percy and his group of friends as they set out to find the mythical Golden Fleece and free a friend who has been captured. (The LA Times and Dark Horizons)
