TELEVISION
Actor Goran Visnjic (ER) has joined the cast of the new ABC fall drama Pan Am for a 4-episode arc. He will play a sexy Yugoslavian immigrant torn between his communist Eastern Bloc homeland and the potential freedoms and opportunities of the West. (James Hibberd at Entertainment Weekly)
Actor Ryan Rottman (the TeenNick series Gigantic) will guest star on 90210 this fall, playing Shane, a smart, handsome gay 20-something who is confident in his identity and is committed to fighting for marriage equality. The show is back with all new episodes starting on September 13. (Sandra Gonzalez at Entertainment Weekly)
Supernatural fans rejoice – as well as Buffy and Angel fans. Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters will be playing husband and wife named Don and Maggie Stark in the fifth episode of the new season. The episode is called “Shut Up, Dr. Phil and is about a successful man (Marsters) who is married to a witch (Carpenter); but he made her angry and now the whole town is paying the price. DEVELOPMENT NEWS
With the success of Game of Thrones on HBO, Hollywood seems interested in developing other properties by author George R.R. Martin for the screen. It looks like a film adaptation of Martin’s werewolf tale The Skin Trade looks to be in the works. The story centers upon a female detective on the trail of a serial killer linked to an underground werewolf clan ruling the remains of an economically decaying city. (Dark Horizons)
Fox has given a pilot commitment to the as-yet untitled spy drama project from writer Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). No other details on the project are available at this time. (Cynthia Littleton at Variety)
TNT has given a pilot order to the western pilot called Gateway, which is an action/adventure set in a town of the same name in Colorado in the 1880s. The story chronicles three brothers who step up to save their town when their sheriff father is murdered, pitting them against a corrupt cattle baron determined to make the town his own. BOX OFFICE NEWS
Hugh Jackman will star as P.T. Barnum in the contemporary musical The Greatest Showman on Earth. A focal point of the movie is Barnum’s infatuation with opera singer Jenny Lind, called the Swedish Nightingale. So far, no actress has been cast for the role. (The Hollywood Reporter)
Looks like director Ridley Scott is committing to direct and produce a “new installment of Blade Runner,” but at this time it’s unclear if this will be a sequel, a prequel or something else. (Deadline and Dark Horizons)
