In preparation for the upcoming fall FOX drama Terra Nova, fans can take part in the Eleventh Pilgrimage, the next voyage of the extraordinary global effort to save the human race, just like what will be depicted in the show. The lottery for this pilgrimage launches today at Live Terra Nova, a social-enabled website where fans can test their qualifications and enter the lottery for the next trip to Terra Nova.

Here are the details:

Fans can join the experience by logging in with their Facebook ID and then submitting to a “retinal scan” sequence. Once the participant’s identity is verified, he/she will be asked to select six Facebook friends as potential team members for the next pilgrimage. Ambitious applicants will begin with an individual psychological evaluation where they will be tested on mental and emotional acumen that generate results instantly. Because “a family is four,” three Facebook friends will be eliminated after this first exercise. Subsequent weekly assessments, beginning on September 5, will test endurance, recall and dexterity, each of which could result in the elimination of an additional friend from the lottery. Users can check the site regularly for updates, including news reports on the dire conditions of 2149.

The Journey to Terra Nova interactive fan experience is currently on the road traveling to 20 markets around the States this summer and early fall. This branded, solar-powered bus features an interactive video green screen, where fans can digitally insert themselves into a scene from the series and then share it with friends via social media outlets by visiting here. Visitors to the mobile experience can watch an exclusive sneak peek of the show, relax while enjoying a futuristic oxygen bar and receive limited-edition Terra Nova Pilgrimage Badges and other collectibles.

The following list shows the remaining Journey to Terra Nova mobile experience:

August 12 – Phoenix
August 16 and 17 – Dallas
August 18 – Houston
August 20 – New Orleans
August 24 – Chicago
August 26 – St. Louis

NOTE: You must be 18 or older to enter.

For eligibility requirements, complete rules and more information, visit here.

The rumor mill is at it again with news that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of this season. According to Doctor Who TV, Daily Star and Blastr, it looks like Amy and Rory will NOT be killed off, but they will announce they want to head back home and settle down.

One story idea is to have Amy and Rory appear as “stay-at-home” assistants for The Doctor, helping him out from Earth from time to time.

Admittedly, this rumor is not too improbable, because Arthur Darvill is currently starring in a play called Doctor Faustus until October 2, and the show’s Christmas episode is set to start filming next month, meaning Darvill may not be available in time to film the special.

Also, Karen Gillan has already confirmed that she would be back for season 7, though she never actually gave specifics about her return, and nothing’s been said about her being in the Christmas episode either yet.

While all of this news isn’t exactly new, it does keep the fans guessing about what might happen next.

The news broke last night that Syfy is canceling Eureka – ironically while a new episode of the show was airing. And while that news is very sad for the show’s diehard fanbase (myself included), there is a little bit of a silver lining. Eureka is NOT going off the air this year.

As most folks have probably read by now, there are still five more episodes of the current season that is airing, there will be an all-new Christmas episode airing this December AND there will be 12 more episodes in Season 5 that are set to air next year.

Also, this November the folks at Creation Entertainment are putting together a convention honoring Eureka (as well as its nightly counterpart: Warehouse 13). You can learn more details on that convention – which will be held in Los Angeles – here.

Finally, I wanted to share some words from the Executive Producer and Co-Creator of Eureka, Jaime Paglia:

“Heartfelt thanks to all our Eureka fans for the incredible support. You’re the reason we do what we do. It has been a privilege. We hope to be able to give you, the characters, and Eureka a proper send-off. We’re doing all we can to make that happen. But whatever happens, you have a season and a half of fantastic new episodes to come through next year. It only gets better. All my thanks to our amazing cast, crew and creative team for their phenomenal work on these 76 episodes of Eureka. You’re the best.”

So, let’s enjoy the time we have left with one of our beloved sci-fi shows and relish each new episode as it airs!

On Sunday night the Teen Choice Awards were held with much of young Hollywood out in force to attend the annual fete voted on by young and old adult (rule books be damned, right?) But what happened after the awards show that included the involvement of some of young Hollywood is what should be getting more attention. No, this isn’t going to be a story of scandal or intrigue among the young jet-set but a story of young Hollywood doing something right.

The DoSomething & StaplesStaples for Students” charity event, of which the cast of Pretty Little Liars are the spokespeople, took the traditional idea of the Hollywood swag bag and “spun it on its head”. Cast members of the popular ABC Family Channel series – Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell – were joined not only by singers Jason Derulo and JoJo, Twilight actors Tinsel Korey and Booboo Stewart and actresses Olivia Munn (Perfect Couples) and Francia Raisa (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) [among others] but also teen volunteers to pack hundreds of backpacks with school supplies for the Boys & Girls Club of Los Angeles.

This event was meant to shine the spotlight on the season-long campaign to get school supplies into the hands of needy students all around the city. But that doesn’t mean that one event was the only way people can get involved. Parents and teens (or anyone who wants to get involved, in the program) can still help out by visiting their local Staples store from now through September 17, dropping off new school supplies or making a donation at the register (100 percent of the proceeds will benefit local students in need).

Additionally, teens can visit Staples for Students to get involved in the following ways:

• Request an Action Kit: Students can get tips, resources, and flyers on running their own school supply drives in their neighborhoods.

• Text SUPPLIES to 38383: Students will receive more information on how to begin their own school supply drive or find their nearest Staples drop-off location (standard text messaging rates apply).

• Pick Your Pretty Little Liar: When teens log-on and select their favorite star from the campaign, $1 will be donated by Staples to the cause and in turn, teens will get exclusive behind-the-scenes details from the actresses.

• Check in on Foursquare: Teens who check-in at any Staples store on Foursquare will also have a $1 donated on their behalf by Staples to the campaign.

As part of this fourth annual campaign, Staples will also provide 4,500 backpacks filled with supplies totaling more than $125,000 to Boys & Girls Club members in communities affected by this year’s devastating tornadoes, including Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Joplin, Missouri and Springfield, Massachusetts so children in those hard-hit areas can go back to school with the supplies they need to succeed and achieve great futures.

DoSomething.org is one of the largest organizations in the United States that helps young people work for causes for which they care about. A driving force in creating a culture of volunteerism, DoSomething is on track to activate two million young people in 2011. By leveraging the web, television, mobile, and pop culture, DoSomething inspires, empowers and celebrates a generation of doers: teenagers who recognize the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action. You can learn more about DoSomething.org here.

Doing their part are the stars of Pretty Little Liars, who starred in this year’s DoSomething public service announcement airing on television and radio stations nationwide, generating excitement online through Staples for Students and appearing in signs at Staples stores.

So, get out there and do your part, lend a hand and make a difference for a needy child.

Strike Back

The new Cinemax series Strike Back will debut on August 12 at 10 PM. The series is inspired by the U.K. Sky series Strike Back (that starred Richard Armitage), which in turn was based on the Chris Ryan book of the same name.

In this version the mission is lead by Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton from the Australian show Neighbours), a charismatic former U.S. Special Forces operative who teams up with a British military unit led by Section 20 Officer Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester from Fringe) to stop an international terrorist group.

There will be 10 episodes of this action series from writers Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files) and Richard Zadjlic (Eastenders)

You can see a video of Strike Back here.
