NBC has acquired the drama pilot called Legends, which is about an undercover agent who takes on legendary identities — while coming to face the possibility that his own identity is fictional as well. (Variety and Dark Horizons)
NBC has given a pilot order to Beautiful People, a character-driven futuristic drama spec by Scrubs co-executive producer/director (and occasional actor) Michael McDonald. The project is described as an imaginative and thematically rich ensemble “what if” drama set 10 minutes in the future where families of mechanical human beings exist to service the human population that is until some of the mechanicals begin to “awaken.” (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)
MADE FOR TV MOVIE NEWS
Actor Joel Gretsch (The 4400 and V) has joined the Lifetime original made-for-TV movie called Of Two Minds that chronicles the relationship between a woman (Kristin Davis) and her younger sister (Tammy Blanchard), who has schizophrenia. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)
BOX OFFICE NEWS
Harry Potter director David Yates is teaming up with the BBC to turn its iconic sci-fi TV series Doctor Who into a big screen franchise. Yates is about to start work on developing the adaptation with Jane Tranter, the BBC Worldwide L.A.-based executive VP of programming and production. Yates made it clear that his movie adaptation would not follow on from the current TV series, but would take a completely fresh approach to the material, but it could be a few years before the finished product could be seen.
