The first month of 2012 is now behind us; and that means it is time to review the ratings for the cable series that aired in January as well as the ratings for any made-for-TV movies that can be tracked down for January. Those ratings are all listed below:
CABLE SHOWS
MONDAYS:
Pretty Little Liars – The ABC Family series returned on January 2 for the latter part of its second season, airing 5 episodes during January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 2 – 3.3 million viewers
January 9 – 2.9 million viewers
January 16 – 2.8 million viewers
January 23 – 3.2 million viewers
January 30 – 2.6 million viewers
This averages out to 3 million viewers for the month. Pretty Little Liars will be back with an all-new episode on Monday, February 6 at 8 PM.
The Lying Game – The new ABC Family teen drama returned for the tail-end of its debut season with 5 episodes airing in January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 2 – 1.8 million viewers
January 9 – 1.5 million viewers
January 16 – 1.3 million viewers
January 23 – 1.7 million viewers
January 30 – 1.7 million viewers
This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for the month. The Lying Game will also be back with an all-new episode on Monday, February 6 at 9 PM.
Being Human – The second season of the Syfy remake of the BBC original series had its season premiere on January 16 and aired 3 episodes in January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 16 – 1.8 million viewers
January 23 – 1.7 million viewers
January 30 – 1.7 million viewers
This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for the month. Being Human will be back with an all-new episode on Monday, February 6 at 9 PM.
Lost Girl – The Canadian hit series debuted on Syfy on January 16 and aired 3 episodes in January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 16 – 1.5 million viewers
January 23 – 1.1 million viewers
January 30 – 1.4 million viewers
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for the month. Lost Girl will also be back with an all-new episode on Monday, February 6 at 10 PM.
TUESDAYS:
Switched at Birth – The freshman ABC Family series returned with the remainder of its debut season on January 3 and aired 5 episodes during January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 3 – 2.7 million viewers
January 10 – 2.1 million viewers
January 17 – 2.0 million viewers
January 24 – 1.9 million viewers
January 31 – 1.9 million viewers
This averages out to 2.1 million viewers for the month. Switched at Birth will air an all-new episode on Tuesday, February 7 at 8 PM.
Jane By Design – The new ABC Family series debuted on January 3, airing 5 episodes during January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 3 – 1.6 million viewers
January 10 – 1.1 million viewers
January 17 – 1.3 million viewers
January 24 – 1.5 million viewers
January 31 – 1.4 million viewers
This averages out to 1.4 million viewers for the month. Jane By Design will be back with an all-new episode on Tuesday, February 7 at 9 PM.
Justified – The FX series was back with an all new season on January 17 with 3 episodes airing during January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

January 24 – 2.7 million viewers
January 31 – 2.7 million viewers
This averages out to 2.8 million viewers for the month. Justified will be back with an all-new episode on Tuesday, February 7 at 10 PM.
White Collar – The USA Network series returned for the remainder of its current season on January 17, airing 3 episodes in January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 17 – 3.2 million viewers
January 24 – 3.5 million viewers
January 31 – 3 million viewers
This averages out to 3 million viewers for the month. White Collar will be back with an all-new episode on Tuesday, February 7 at 10 PM.
Southland – The transplanted NBC series, now airing on TNT, had its season premiere on January 17, airing 3 episodes in January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 17 – 1.8 million viewers
January 24 – 2.2 million viewers
January 31 – 2.1 million viewers
This averages out to 2 million viewers for the month. Southland will be back with an all-new episode on Tuesday, February 7 at 10 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
Royal Pains – The popular USA Network medical dramedy returned for the rest of its current season on January 18, airing 2 episodes in January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 18 – 3.3 million viewers
January 25 – 3.4 million viewers
This averages out to 3.4 million viewers for the month. Royal Pains will be back with an all-new episode on Tuesday, February 7 at 9 PM.
State of Play aired its final two months on January 4 and 11 with Mistresses debuting its third season on January 18, airing two episodes in January both on BBC America; but the numbers for both U.K. dramas are difficult to track down. Mistresses will air an all-new episode on Wednesday, January 8 at 10 PM.
FRIDAYS:
Merlin – The Syfy series returned for a new season starting on January 6, airing 4 episodes in January. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 6 – 1.6 million viewers
January 13 – 1.8 million viewers
January 20 – 1.8 million viewers
January 27 – 2.1 million viewers
This averages out to 1.8 million viewers for the month. Merlin will be back with an all-new episode on Friday, February 10 at 8 PM.
SATURDAYS:
The Fades – The new supernatural series debuted on BBC America on January 14, airing 3 episodes in January. But just like State of Play and Mistresses, the ratings were difficult to track down. The next new episode of The Fades will air tonight, February 4.
SUNDAYS:
Leverage – The final 3 episodes of the TNT series aired during January with the season finale airing on January 15. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 1 – 2.3 million viewers
January 8 – 12.3 million viewers
January 15 – 2.6 million viewers
This averages out to 2.4 million viewers for the month. Leverage will be back with an all-new season this summer.
Hell on Wheels – The final 3 episodes of the new AMC western series aired during January with the season finale airing on January 15. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
January 1 – 2.5 million viewers
January 8 – 2.3 million viewers
January 15 – 2.8 million viewers
This averages out to 2.5 million viewers for the month. Hell on Wheels will be back with an all-new season sometime later this year.
Luck – The new HBO horseracing series debuted on January 29, earning 1.1 million viewers for its series premiere and received an immediate second season pick up. The next new episode of Luck will air on February 5 at 9 PM.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES
The following made-for-TV movies aired during the month of January:
Fixing Peter aired on the Hallmark Channel on January 7, earning 1.4 million viewers.
Part one of Downton Abbey aired on PBS on January 8, earning 4.2 million viewers. Subsequent parts that aired on January 15, 22 and 29 have been difficult to track down.
A Taste of Romance aired on the Hallmark Channel on January 14, getting 2.6 million viewers.
Drew Peterson: Untouchable aired on Lifetime on January 21, earning 5.8 million viewers.
A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song aired on ABC Family on January 22, garnering 2.5 million viewers.
Frenemies aired on Disney on January 13, earning 4.2 million viewers.
Swamp Volcano aired on Syfy on January 28, getting 2.2 million viewers.
Goodnight for Justice: The Measure of a Man aired on January 28 on the Hallmark Movie Channel, but ratings for this sequel were difficult to track down.
Smile as Big as the Moon, a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie on ABC, aired on January 29, earning 6.9 million viewers.
Ratings results for the cable series that will air in February as well as ratings for the made-for-TV movies for February that can be tracked down will be provided during the first week of March.
