Now that September has been over for a few weeks, I am overdue reviewing the ratings for the cable series as well as any made-for-TV movies that aired last month that could be tracked down. Those ratings are all listed below:
CABLE SHOWS
MONDAYS:
Switched at Birth – The popular teen drama returned to ABC Family on September 3, airing four episodes during the month of September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 3 – 2.2 million
September 10 – 1.7 million
September 17 – 1.6 million
September 24 – 1.4 million
This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for the month. The fall finale of Switched at Birth will air on ABC Family on Monday, October 22 at 8 PM; and those ratings along with the other three new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
Perception – The new TNT series aired its final three episodes, including a two-part finale in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 3 – 4.2 million
September 10 – 3.5 million (Part 1 of Season Finale)
September 17 – 3.5 million (Part 2 of Season Finale)
This averages out to 3.7 million viewers for the month. The second season of Perception will air on TNT next summer.
Warehouse 13 – The popular Syfy aired three new episodes in September. The ratings for all of those episodes are as follows:
September 3 – No episode aired
September 10 – 1.7 million
September 17 – 1.7 million
September 24 – 1.5 million
This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for the month. The fall finale of Warehouse 13 aired on Syfy on October 1; and those ratings will be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November. Warehouse 13 is expected back with more new episodes in April 2013.
Alphas – The Syfy series aired three new episodes in September. The ratings for all of those episodes are as follows:
September 3 – No episode aired
September 10 – 1.3 million
September 17 – 1.3 million
September 24 – 1.2 million
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for the month. The season finale of Alphas will air on Syfy on Monday, October 22 at 8 PM. A decision has yet to be made if Alphas will be back for another season.
Major Crimes – The TNT series aired four new episodes in September. The ratings for all of those episodes are as follows:
September 3 – 5.9 million
September 10 – 5 million
September 17 – 4.7 million
September 24 – 4.3 million
This averages out to 5 million viewers for the month. The season finale of Major Crimes aired on TNT on Monday, October 15; and those ratings will be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November. The series will return with all new episodes next year.
TUESDAYS:
White Collar – The popular USA Network series aired three more new episodes, including the fall finale during September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 3.4 million
September 11 – 3.8 million
September 18 – 3.4 million (Fall Finale)
This averages out to 3.5 million viewers for the month. White Collar will be back on the USA Network with new episodes starting in January 2013.
Covert Affairs – The USA Network spy series three more new episodes during September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 3.4 million
September 11 – 3.9 million
September 18 – 3.5 million
This averages out to 3.6 million viewers for the month. Covert Affairs took a three week hiatus, returning with new episodes on October 16 at 10 PM; and those ratings along with the other new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November. The next new episode will air on Tuesday, October 23 at 10 PM.
Sons of Anarchy – The FX drama returned for a new season on September 11, airing three episodes in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 11 – 5.4 million
September 18 – 4.2 million
September 25 – 3.8 million
This averages out to 4.5 million viewers for the month. The next new episode of Sons of Anarchy will air on FX on Tuesday, October 23; and those ratings along with the other new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
WEDNESDAYS:
Royal Pains – The popular USA Network medical drama aired four all-new episodes of its current season during August. The ratings for all of those episodes are as follows:
September 5 – 3.6 million
September 12 – 3.7 million
September 19 – 4.2 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 3.8 million viewers for the month. A two-hour holiday episode of Royal Pains will air on Sunday, December 16 at 9 PM.
THURSDAYS:
Awkward – The MTV comedy aired its final two episodes in September. The ratings for all of those episodes are as follows:
September 6 – No episode aired
September 13 – 1.8 million
September 20 – 2.7 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 2.3 million viewers for the month. Awkward is expected back sometime next year for another new season.
FRIDAYS:
Lost Girl – The Canadian series aired its final two episodes of its new season. The ratings for all of those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 1.4 million
September 14 – 1.5 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.5 million viewers for the month. The next new season of Lost Girl will air on Syfy sometime next year.
Boss – The Starz political drama aired four new episodes in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 387,000 viewers
September 14 – 382,000 viewers
September 21 – 409,000 viewers
September 28 – 312,000 viewers
This averages out to 373,000 viewers for the month. The next new episode of Boss will air on Starz this Friday, October 26 at 9 PM; and those ratings along with the other new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
Strike Back – The military-themed Cinemax series aired four new episodes in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – No ratings could be found
September 14 – 263,000 viewers
September 21 – 358,000 viewers
September 28 – 310,000 viewers
This averages out to 373,000 viewers for those three episodes. The season finale of Strike Back aired on Cinemax on October 12; and those ratings along with the other new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
SATURDAYS:
Doctor Who returned to BBC America for a new season, airing five episodes during September. The ratings
September 1– 1.6 million
September 8 – 1.1 million
September 15 – 960,000 viewers
September 22 – Ratings could not be found for this episode
September 29 – Ratings could not be found for this episode (Fall Finale)
This averages out to 890,000 viewers for three episodes for which ratings could be tracked. The annual Christmas special of Doctor Who will air in December.
SUNDAYS:
Drop Dead Diva – The popular Lifetime dramedy aired its final two episodes in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – No episode aired
September 9 – 2.8 million (Season Finale)
Drop Dead Diva is expected back for an all new season on Lifetime sometime next summer.
Army Wives – The popular Lifetime military drama aired its final two episodes in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – No episode aired
September 9 – 3.3 million (Season Finale)
Army Wives is expected back for an all new season on Lifetime sometime next summer.
Leverage – The TNT con caper aired four more new episodes during September, including the two-part fall finale. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – 2.4 million
September 9 – 2.2 million
September 16 – 2.6 million (Part One of Fall Finale)
September 16 – 2.4 million (Part Two of Fall Finale)
This averages out to 2.4 million viewers for the month. Leverage will return to TNT with new episodes starting on Tuesday, November 27 at 10 PM.
Breaking Bad – The AMC series aired its mid-season finale on September 2, earning 2.8 million. The series will be back next summer for the remainder of its final season.
Hell on Wheels – The AMC western drama aired five new episodes during September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – 2.5 million
September 9 – 2.6 million
September 16 – 2.7 million
September 23 – 2.3 million
September 30 – 1.8 million
This averages out to 2.4 million viewers for the month. The two-hour season finale of Hell on Wheels aired on AMC on October 7 and the ratings for the finale will be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
Copper – The new period piece drama from BBC America debuted on August 19 airing two episodes during August. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – 901,000 viewers
September 9 – 837,000 viewers
September 16 – 704,000 viewers
September 23 – 624,000 viewers
September 30 – 404,000 viewers
This averages out to 694,000 viewers for the month. The season finale of Copper will air on BBC America tonight, October 21 at 10 PM; and those ratings along with the other two new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
Boardwalk Empire – The HBO period piece returned for a new season, starting on September 16, airing three episodes during September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 16 – 2.9 million
September 23 – 2.6 million
September 30 – 2.4 million
This averages out to 2.6 million for the month. The next new episode of Boardwalk Empire will air on HBO tonight (October 21) at 10 PM; and those ratings along with the other new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
Treme – The HBO New Orleans based drama returned for a new season on HBO on October 23, airing two episodes in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 23 – 568,000 viewers
September 30 – 538,000 viewers
This averages out to 553,000 viewers for the month. The next new episode of Treme is expected to air on HBO tonight (October 21) at 10 PM (but please check your local listings for confirmation. The ratings for that episode along with the other new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
Dexter – The serial killer Showtime series returned for a new season on September 30, earning 2.4 million viewers. The next new episode of Dexter will air on Showtime tonight (October 21) at 9 PM; and those ratings along with the other new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
Homeland – The award-winning Showtime series returned for a new season on September 30, earning 1.7 million viewers. The next new episode of Homeland will air on Showtime tonight (October 21) at 10 PM; and those ratings along with the other new October episodes will all be included in the next cable ratings report at the beginning of November.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES
The following made-for-TV movies aired during September:
The two-part mini-series Coma aired on A&E, earning an average of 1.7 million viewers over the two nights it aired.
The Hallmark Channel movie Puppy Love earned 1.7 million viewers.
There were two original Lifetime movies that aired in September: Killer Among Us earned 2 million viewers while Last Hours in Suburbia pulled in 1.5 million viewers.
Pegasus vs. Chimera and Aladdin & the Death Lamp were both new original movies on Syfy in September. The first earned 1.2 million viewers while the latter earned 1.2 million viewers.
Lastly, the Encore original two-part mini-series Crimson Petal and the White aired in September, earning an average of 224,000 viewers over its two nights.
