October is now over and it is time to review the ratings that could be tracked down for the cable series and the made-for-TV movies that aired last month. Those ratings are all listed below:
CABLE SHOWS
MONDAYS:
Switched at Birth – The popular teen drama finally brought its first season to a close on ABC Family, airing its final four episodes during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 1.4 million
October 8 – 1.6 million
October 15 – 1.4 million
October 22 – 1.8 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for the month. The new season of Switched at Birth will return on ABC Family for its second season on Monday, January 7 at 8 PM.
Warehouse 13 – The popular Syfy aired its mid-season finale on October 1, earning 1.6 million viewers. The series will return to Syfy for more new episodes of its current season in April 2013.
Alphas – The Syfy series aired its final four episodes in October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 1.1 million
October 8 – 1.1 million
October 15 – 1.2 million
October 22 – 1.2 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for the month. A decision has yet to be made if Alphas will be back for another season.
Major Crimes – The TNT series aired its final three episodes from its debut season in October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 4.2 million
October 8 – 4.3 million
October 15 – 5.1 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 4.5 million viewers for the month. The series will return with all new episodes next summer.
TUESDAYS:
Covert Affairs – After a three week break, the USA Network spy series returned to air three more new episodes of its current season during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 16 – 2.8 million
October 23 – 2.7 million
October 30 – 2.4 million
This averages out to 2.6 million viewers for the month. The next new episode of Covert Affairs will air on the USA Network on Tuesday, November 6 at 10 PM.
Pretty Little Liars – A special Halloween episode of the ABC Family guilty pleasure aired on October 23, earning 2.8 million viewers. The series will return to ABC Family for more new episodes of its current season on January 8 at 8 PM.
Sons of Anarchy – The FX drama aired five new episodes of its current season in October. The ratings for all of those episodes are as follows:
October 2 – 4.6 million
October 9 – 4.3 million
October 16 – 4 million
October 23 – 4.3 million
October 30 – 4.6 million
This averages out to 4.4 million viewers for the month. The next new episode of Sons of Anarchy will air on FX on Tuesday, November 6 at 10 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
American Horror Story: Asylum – The second season of FX thriller returned on October 17, airing three episodes in October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 17 – 3.9 million
October 24 – 3.1 million
October 31 – 2.7 million
This averages out to 3.2 million viewers for the month. The next new episode of American Horror Story: Asylum will air on FX on Wednesday, November 7 at 10 PM.
FRIDAYS:
Boss – The Starz political drama aired its final three episodes of its season in October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 436,000 viewers
October 12 – 340,000 viewers
October 19 – 442,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 406,000 viewers for the month. Boss has yet to be renewed for a third season by Starz.
Strike Back – The military-themed Cinemax series aired its final two episodes of its current season in October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 235,000 viewers
October 12 – 249,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 242,000 viewers for those three episodes. Strike Back will be back on Cinemax for a third season sometime in 2013.
Haven – The series actually returned on September 21, airing two episodes last month as well as four episodes in October. The ratings for all of those episodes are as follows:
September 21 – 2 million
September 28 – 1.4 million
October 5 – 1.6 million
October 12 – 1.7 million
October 19 – 1.4 million
October 26 – 1.4 million
This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for September and October. A new two-part episode of Haven aired on Syfy on November 2 and the ratings for that episode will be posted next month. The conclusion of that two-part episode will air on Syfy on Friday, November 9 at 10 PM.
Hunted – The new Cinemax spy drama debuted on Friday, October 19, airing two episodes during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 19 – 250,000 viewers
October 26 – 166,000 viewers
This averages out to 208,000 viewers for the month. A new episode of Hunted aired on Cinemax on November 2 and the ratings for that episode will be posted next month. The next new episode will air on Cinemax on Friday, November 9 at 10 PM.
SATURDAYS:
Bedlam – The U.K. series Bedlam started its second season on BBC America on October 6, airing four episodes on during October; but the ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down.
SUNDAYS:
Hell on Wheels – The AMC western drama aired its two-hour season finale on October 7, earning 2.2 million viewers. The series was renewed for a third season by AMC, but that renewal has been put on hold for now until a new shownrunner is chosen to helm the series.
Copper – The new period piece drama from BBC America aired its final three episodes during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 436,000 viewers
October 14 – 513,000 viewers
October 21 – 523,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 491,000 viewers for the month. Copper has been renewed for a second season and is anticipated to return to BBC America at some point next year.
Boardwalk Empire – The HBO period piece aired four more new episodes from its current season during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 2.1 million
October 14 – 2.2 million
October 21 – 2.3 million
October 28 – 2 million
This averages out to 2.2 million for the month. The next new episode of Boardwalk Empire will air on HBO tonight (November 4) at 9 PM.
Treme – The HBO New Orleans based drama aired four more new episodes of its current season during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 484,000 viewers
October 14 – 523,000 viewers
October 21 – 602,000 viewers
October 28 – 491,000 viewers
This averages out to 525,000 viewers for the month. The next new episode of Treme will air on HBO tonight (November 4) at 10 PM.
Dexter – The serial killer Showtime aired another four new episodes of the current season during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 2.1 million
October 14 – 2 million
October 21 – 2.2 million
October 28 – 2.2 million
This averages out to 2.1 million viewers for the month. The next new episode of Dexter will air on Showtime tonight (November 4) at 9 PM.
Homeland – The award-winning Showtime series aired four new episodes of its current season during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 1.7 million
October 14 – 1.5 million
October 21 – 1.7 million
October 28 – 2.1 million
This averages out to 1.8 million viewers for the month. The next new episode of Homeland will air on Showtime tonight (November 4) at 10 PM.
The Walking Dead – The zombie series returned for a new season on AMC on October 14, airing three episodes during October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 14 – 10.9 million (Season Premiere)
October 21 – 9.5 million
October 28 – 10.5 million
This averages out to 10.3 million viewers for the month. The next new episode of The Walking Dead will air on AMC tonight (November 4) at 9 PM.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES:
The following made-for-TV movies aired during October:
A number of mini-series aired during October, including Call the Midwife and Upstairs Downstairs on PBS; Titanic: Blood and Steel on Encore and World Without End on Reelz Channel. Ratings for these mini-series could not be tracked, however.
The Lifetime movies Steel Magnolias and Abducted: The Carlina White Story both aired during the early part of October with the latter earing 6.5 million viewers and the former getting 4.1 million viewers.
The Disney movie Girl vs. Monster debuted on October 12, earning 4.9 million viewers.
The Hallmark Channel movies I Married Who? and The Good Witch’s Charm aired on October 20 and October 27 respectively. Ratings for I Married Who? could not be tracked down but the ratings for The Good Witch’s Charm were 2.1 million viewers. Also, the Hallmark Movie Channel film 7-Year Hitch aired on October 13, but ratings could not be tracked down for that film either.
The HBO movie The Girl about the relationship between legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock and actress Tippy Hedren (in filming the classic film The Birds) aired on October 20, getting 722,000 viewers.
The Syfy film Rise of Zombies debuted on October 27 (right in time for Halloween), earning 1.3 million viewers.
Ratings results for the cable series and the made-for-TV movies that are to air in November (that can be tracked down) will be provided during the first week of December.
