Hey All,

Here are the news items for today:

BOX OFFICE NEWS

Actor Evan Peters (American Horror Story) has been cast as Quicksilver (the son of Magneto) in the upcoming box office film X-Men: Days Of Future Past. (The Deadline Team)

Q&A SECTION (with Matt Mitovich at TV Line)

Question: I’m down on my knees here begging you for any and all info you might be in possession of on Psych! I’ll bake cookies, or send you a pineapple. Just please give me something! –Melinda

Mitovich: If you’ve longed to hear Arnie Becker let loose with a tune, the USA series’ musical episode — a two-parter set to unspool on one night in November or December – will not fill the bill. “I must tell you the truth, I don’t sing — and that’s probably why I only speak three words” in the much anticipated outing, Corbin Bernsen tells me. The pipes boasted by the rest of the cast, however, are “extraordinary,” Henry’s portrayer raves. “It sounds like Broadway stuff — the sort of stuff that I can’t do.”

Question: Got any Castle or Suits scoop to help me through finals? –Christina

Mitovich: Suits up! At the USA Network upfront event, I asked Gabriel Macht what sets the stage for the new season’s flashback episode, which dives 10 years into the past. “The DA played by Gary Cole in the first season is brought back, so we’re going to see the origin episode of why Harvey left the DA’s office,” he shared. And what surprised him most about this latest bit of time travel? “It was interesting to find out where Harvey gets the value of not sleeping with the people he works with.” On a related note, Macht says the issue of where “Scottie” (played by Abigail Spencer) lands – New York or London – “is explained in the premiere, [airing July 16], so she’s back for that episode.”

Question: I really hope to see more “Esplanie” on Castle next season. Anything you can tease so far? – Marine

Mitovich: Know who else hopes to see more Esposito/Lanie scenes? Andrew W. Marlowe, that’s who. Acknowledging that things are “complicated” between the detective and the M.E., (“I think that Lanie isn’t sure about wanting to commit “), the series’ creator says, “There is much more going on in that relationship than we have had time to show. There’s some great storytelling that we’ve talked about, but to give it the real breadth we want to, we need a bit more time. So we’re going to have some hallmarks next season on that front.” So I in turn ask fans: What hallmarks would you like to see?

Question: Can you tell us more about what’s coming in the second season of Beauty and the Beast? –Sakran

Mitovich: Presumably in addition to Catherine’s biological father, “We’ve got some new people joining us [for Season 2], which is going to amp things up,” Jay Ryan says. “Fresh blood!” As for the show’s sophomore run as a whole, Vincent’s portrayer has these expectations: “I think we’ve found our footing, as far as what the tone of the show is — and we can only grow bigger and better from there.”

Question: Does Hart of Dixie’s Scott Porter think George and Zoe will finally be more explored in Season 3? And what would be his dream storyline for George Tucker? –Stephanie

Mitovich: What if I told you that his dream storyline does not involve Zoe…? Porter told me his No. 1 Season 3 wish is that “George is single, for most of the year. That we get to see him more fleshed out and go on some solo adventures as opposed to always being tethered to a relationship.” The actor noted that in Season 2, George “was single for one episode, and then had a revolving door of women coming through his life, and I want to see George outside of that.” As such, this storyline in which George shutters his law practice for a bit to indulge his musical leanings has a good ring to it. “There’s a part of George that is a little bit more wild — and he needs to start letting that side out.”

Question: On NCIS: Los Angeles, will we ever meet Kensi’s ex-fiancé Jack? –Lauren

Mitovich: No sooner did I utter your question to show boss Shane Brennan did he respond, “Yes.” But was that a yes as in sometime soon-ish…? “I answered you pretty quickly,” Brennan smiled, “so perhaps it’s something we are already thinking about.” As for what Jack might be like, Brennan isn’t locked into a type just yet, though he did venture: “Kensi likes Deeks, so maybe he’s a Deeks lookalike, another ‘shaggy dog’?”

Question: Does Neal/Bae come back in Once Upon a Time Season 3, or is he really dead?? –Jessica

Mitovich: Judging by the fact actor Michael Raymond-James has been made a full-time cast member, he sure seems to be alive. (Unless he has another identity, that of Casper the Friendly Ghost.)

Question: Covert Affairs is back filming and @ChrisGorham is tweeting cryptic teases. Any info on the upcoming season? –Janice

Mitovich: Kari Matchett shared a taste of the tempestuous times ahead for the USA drama’s resident marrieds. In addition to the budding Annie/Auggie romance, she said, “There are some really interesting personal things going on [in Season 4] that inform the professional life in a bigger way for Joan and Arthur. I can say there is a very serious breaking point that comes up. I can’t tell you what the outcome is, but there is a very, very serious breaking point.” (Could Matchett’s real-life pregnancy play into this relationship drama? “Viewers will have to tune in and see,” I am told.)

That’s it. Enjoy!

Have a terrific long, holiday weekend! I’ll be back with news on Tuesday!

TELEVISION

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

Actor Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) has landed the lead role in the drama project called Quarry based on the novels by Max Allan Collins. The project is called The Knick and will be set in New York in 1900. The basic set-up for the project is this: It’s downtown New York in 1900, a tumultuous time of massive change and great progress; it will center around the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff at Knickerbocker Hospital, who are pushing the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. BOX OFFICE TRAILER

Must Watch: General Zod Unleashed in Epic ‘Man of Steel’ Trailer

Q&A SECTION (with Adam Bryant and Natalie Abrams at TV Guide and Michael Ausiello at TV Line)

Question: I can’t believe I have to wait all summer for more Castle. Is there any way Beckett will turn down Castle’s proposal? — Lauren

ADAM: Depends on who you ask. Cast member Tamala Jones thinks that Beckett’s desire for career advancement in Washington, D.C., could outweigh her feelings for Castle. “Beckett is a strong woman, and she’s not going to forget who she is,” she says. “So she may say no — or not right now.” Susan Sullivan, who plays Castle’s mother, has a different take. “What woman in her right mind would say no to him?” she says. “Therein would lie the problem: I may actually have to move out. Yikes!”

Question: Do you have any scoop on Laurel and Oliver next season on Arrow? —Jim

NATALIE: Here’s some Laurel scoop from executive producer Marc Guggenheim that may involve Oliver: “Because her building has been destroyed, Laurel is looking for a new job and she will not be returning to CNRI next year,” he says. “She’ll have a new job and a new mission and I’ll leave it to people to speculate for the next three months as to what that mission could be.”

Question: What will the dynamic be like between Michael and Fiona when Burn Notice returns for its final season? — Nancy

ADAM: Put it this way: If those two are going to reunite before the end of the series, they have a lot of emotional and physical distance to overcome. When the series returns, nine months have passed and Michael is now an alcoholic loner working undercover on an eight-year-long mission in the Dominican Republic. Although Michael has cut his mom and friends out of his life and Fiona now has a new business partner/boyfriend, look for the gang to reunite sooner than expected when a bad guy in Miami threatens to blow up Michael’s entire mission — and with it, his friends’ immunity deals — permanently.

Question: Will we see a lot of Elena and Katherine facing off on The Vampire Diaries next season? —Marie

NATALIE: Maybe not facing off, but perhaps switching off? “One thing we’re looking forward to so much next season is Elena on her own as a vampire and living her new life in college,” executive producer Julie Plec explains. “And to see a vulnerable Katherine, who is able to be hurt and able to be killed and in need of the protection much like the first Elena we met four years ago.” Oh, and get this — she says it’ll be fun.

Question: What’s going to happen to Vincent next season on Beauty and the Beast? — Lara

ADAM: Now that Vincent has been captured, clearly he’s going to need someone to rescue him. But however that turns out, Jay Ryan has some other wishes for Season 2: “I’d like him to find his mother and some of his platoon, if they are still alive, and give him a sense of community he could bring to his relationship with Catherine,” he says. Speaking of family, Ryan says that the introduction of Catherine’s biological father in the finale will create some major obstacles for he and Catherine. How major? “[He] could break them up,” Ryan warns.

Question: What’s going to happen to Storybrooke on Once Upon a Time? —Lauren

NATALIE: Just because most of the ABC’s fairy-tale drama’s main characters went through a portal to Neverland does not mean we won’t be seeing Storybrooke next season. In fact, Emilie de Ravin, whose Belle has been left in charge of the town, confirms that she’ll continue to be a series regular in Season 3. The Lost alum also notes that even though Belle’s memories are all intact, it doesn’t mean she’ll write Mr. Gold off for his actions while she was Lacey. “She was going along with it though, so therefore you can’t blame him if you’re the one saying, ‘Kick that guy’s a–,” she says, noting that Belle will be devastated about his absence when the show returns. “But also she’ll gain her strength back and she’ll have to if she’s going to protect an entire town.”

Question: Since Harvey will have a British counterpart on Suits, will we see anyone else’s? — DeAnna

ADAM: At the moment, no. “As far as I know, there’s no British Donna… yet,” Sarah Rafferty tells us. “But I kind of hope they add one because that’d be fun to see their interaction and her relationship with [British Harvey].” As for our Donna and Harvey’s relationship, we’ll get a deeper look at that when the show flashes-back 10 years. “We did a five-year flashback last season and now we go back even further and you’ll see the origins of their relationship, and how Harvey became who he is,” Rafferty says.

Question: Will Emily and Jack team up next season on Revenge? —Jeremy

NATALIE: In the wake of Declan’s death and Emily’s reveal that she’s actually Amanda, Jack will have a hard time trusting anyone next season. “I think he’s going to be hurt and not trust her,” Nick Wechsler says. “She’s got to earn his trust back. If he does team up with her, it’s only because they have a common enemy, not because she’s out of the doghouse.”

Question: So what’s happening with Divya and Rafa on Royal Pains after their shotgun wedding in Vegas? — Beth

ADAM: Sadly, after deciding to annul the wedding, Divya and Rafa’s relationship is pretty much kaput when the show returns. But Paige is eager to help Divya move on, and she even sets her up with one of her handsome, intelligent co-workers . However, there’s a specific reason that Divya isn’t overly eager about jumping back into the dating pool. Let’s just say that annulments can’t void all contracts.

Question: I’m so excited for Switched at Birth to come back. What can you tell us? —Josephine

NATALIE: This season will feature a “what if?” episode that explores all the characters’ lives had Regina told everyone about the switch when she first figured it out so many years ago. “In the first season, Regina had a bad rap for keeping the secret for so long and had that cloud over her, so [in this episode] Regina finally has a good reputation,” Constance Marie says. The episode will play with physical changes for both Bay and Daphne, a relationship change for John and Kathryn, and for the first time viewers will see Daphne, Bay and Toby as babies!

Question: I bet if you put your finger to your head and I send you a pineapple you could give me scoop on Psych. —Vicki

Ausiello: How ’bout I save you the postage and just tell you that Psych‘s musical episode finds Lassiter and Shawn hitting the dance floor. Together. Meaning, with each other. “James [Roday] and I have a tango and it’s rather romantic,” Timothy Omundson tells TVLine’s Matt Mitovich with a laugh. “We sing and tango with each other. So let’s just say this: It takes [our] relationship to a whole new level.”

Question: I’m almost scared to ask, but is there any hope of Nikita getting more than the initially-ordered six final episodes next year? —AJ

Ausiello: Not a chance in hell. But here’s something you can hold out hope for: A prominent role for Division-less Ryan right up until the end. “Ryan’s talents when we met him [involved] peeling back the layer of a grand conspiracy — and there is no more grander conspiracy than the one we have for Season 4,” teases exec producer Craig Silverstein. “So, he’ll be instrumental is spotting the patterns and forming their front against The Shop and what they’re trying to bring about.” (BTW, Silverstein says the entire cast will be back for the farewell season, and that includes Devon Sawa’s Owen/Sam.)

Question: Do you know if Revenge will be doing a time jump between seasons? —Jeremy

Ausiello: Sounds like there’s one on the drawing board. A little birdie who happens to be a staff writer on Revenge shared some preliminary Season 3 intel with Nick Wechsler (Jack), and a flash forward was involved. “If it happens — and that’s a big “if” because it hasn’t been run by anyone else — we would pick up later,” shares Wechsler. ”[If] it’s months later or a year or more, I don’t know. But it would pick up later.”

Question: Please tell me Zoe is going to go back to Wade after she takes some time for herself on Hart of Dixie? —Amanda

Ausiello: Wilson Bethel says a full-fledged Zoe-Wade “scenario” in Season 3 “seems pretty logical,” although he believes it was smart for the show to end the season with Zoe pulling a Kelly Taylor. “It’s probably good that there’s a bit of anticipation about what she will do” heading into the fall.

Question: Jack Bauer is coming back to TV! Surely you have a 24 scoop for us? Can you at least tell us if fan favorites Chloe and Tony will be back alongside Jack? —Fin

Ausiello: Mary Lynn Rajskub is being eyed to return as Chloe, but my gut tells me you shouldn’t hold your breath re: Carlos Bernard/Tony.

Question: I’m bummed Downton Abbey isn’t returning until January 2014. (Was hoping the new season would air simultaneously with the UK run in the fall.) Any scoop to tide me over? —Connie

Ausiello: The bitch is back. Exec producer Gareth Neame tells TVLine that former Ice Queen Mary will freeze back over in the wake of Matthew’s death. “She mellowed with Matthew [and] opened up a lot more,” he notes. “But I think [after losing Matthew and Sybil], she would be just so devastated that I think it would lock her down and [she would] go back into a lot of the traits that she had before – that very difficult to read characteristic she’s got. I think we’ll see a lot of those very dark and complex things about Mary.”

Question: Do you have anything on Covert Affairs? —Allyson

Ausiello: The USA hit is moving full steam ahead with Annie and Auggie. In the wake of the pair’s season-ending smooch, “Annie and Auggie start Season 4 in a relationship. Yes, we go there,” reveals Christopher Gorham. “We really explore how that works and what that is. It plays into what I think is the theme of the year, which is secrets, because everybody’s got one, or two. Joan’s got a secret, Arthur’s got a secret… Everybody! Auggie’s got a whopper of a secret, and when they all start eventually coming out, it creates some great, great drama.”

That’s it. Enjoy!
