TELEVISION
Actress Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Grimm) will take over the role of First Lady from actress Kate Burton (Grey’s Anatomy) on the new CBS fall drama Hostages, which stars actress Toni Collette as Dr. Ellen Sanders, a top-shelf surgeon who in 24 hours is due to cut open the President of the United States (actor James Naughton), but first she and her family are taken hostage by rogue FBI agent Duncan Carlisle (series lead Dylan McDermott) and his savvy, sleek team of cohorts. Actor Tim Daly (Private Practice will guest star in an episode of Hawaii Five-0, playing a Texas Ranger. This role could potentially be recurring. Hawaii Five-0 returns to CBS on September 27. (Vlada Gelman at TV Line)
Actress Margo Harshman (The Big Bang Theory) will appear on NCIS, playing the potentially recurring role of McGee’s (series regular Sean Murray) new girlfriend Delilah, who is a smart and eccentric computer specialist in the cyber division at the Department of Defense. (Matt Mitovich at TV Line)
ABC Family has renewed Switched at Birth for a third season while ordering additional episodes of new summer shows The Fosters and Twisted. (Rebecca Iannucci at TV Line)
DEVELOPMENT NEWS
It looks like The CW is thinking about developing a new project based on the DC character Flash that would be run by Arrow team/co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)
The CW announced during Comic Con that they are considering doing a spin-off to Supernatural and now it would seem they are moving forward with a backdoor pilot that will air during the long-running show’s upcoming ninth season. Not many details are known about this potential new series, but it will not be nomadic like Supernatural, but rather focus on clashing hunter and monster cultures in Chicago.
