TELEVISION
The CW has given a back-nine order to their new drams The Originals, The Tomorrow People and Reign. (AJ Marechal at Variety)
It looks like the cable network SOAPnet will go 100 percent dark at the end of the year. (TV Line and The LA Times)
Actress Camyrn Manheim (The Practice and Ghost Whisperer) and actor Saul Rubinek (Warehouse 13) will appear in an emotional plot that will play out over multiple episodes of Person of Interest starting in 2014. Manheim will play Diane, a devoted wife whose husband, the brilliant Arthur (Rubinek), is slowly losing his mind. While the team risks putting her in danger, they must rely on Diane to break through to her husband in order to save both their lives. (Michael Ausiello at TV Line)
DEVELOPMENT NEWS
ABC is preparing a limited series based on the Robert Massie best-selling novel “Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman” that chronicles the Russian empress’ rise to become the world’s richest and most powerful woman of her time. (Lesley Goldberg at The Hollywood Reporter)
BOX OFFICE NEWS
Actor Idris Elba (Thor franchise and TV’s Luther) will star in the upcoming thriller film called Bastille Day that will revolve around a U.S. operative who is tasked with interrogating and eventually making a young American boy “disappear” in order to avoid embarrassment to the U.S. government after the boy is linked as the prime suspect to an attack on the Paris metro. After several more attacks, the operative realizes the boy is innocent and also may be the only link to the person actually orchestrating the attacks. (Justin Kroll at Variety)
