Hey All,
The entertainment industry is just making its way back from its holiday break and the news is a bit piecemeal right now, but here are the few items of note for today:
TELEVISION
Comic book God Stan Lee will make a guest appearance in an upcoming episode (possibly the February 4 episode) of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but no details have been revealed as to what role he will play. The new drama will be back from its holiday break tonight, January 7. (Liz Raftery at TV Guide)
DEVELOPMENT NEWS
Wes Brown (Deception) has joined the cast of the music-themed pilot Songbyrd over at E! that will center on songwriter Lauren Byrd (Bethany Joy Lenz from One Tree Hill), a character loosely inspired by hit-maker Diane Warren, and her staff. Brown will play Justin, Lauren’s sexy, soulful, love interest. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)
That’s it. Enjoy!
Fixed by Editor: What has happened to TV shows on cable. Every time a new series starts, they cancel (it) after first or second season. And it (is) always a great show. I just found out that they canceled Magic City and I love gangster type shows. I wish another network would pick it up. Very disappointed with networks.
Sharon: I’m sorry for all the fans of Magic City with the cancellation. That being said, the show did get to have two seasons on Starz, which is more than some shows get. I know that isn’t a pleasant answer, but the networks run by advertiser money and if shows aren’t pulling in enough viewers of the right age, making them money, then they don’t renew the shows. It’s a hard fact of the business, but money is what the name of the game. Regardless it’s very hard and sad on fans when a show disappears from the TV landscape. Did you watch Mob City on TNT? That was a mob-based (obviously by the title) limited run series that you might enjoy.
Chris Albrecht, CEO at Starz, said this about the cancellation of Mob City, “It was a fine show, but it was extremely expensive. It had decent audience but distributors weren’t interested in co-marketing it with us, and we felt Season 2 had a pretty reasonable and satisfying landing spot”. Just wanted to share this with you, Sharon, since you commented about it previously.
