TurnThe new AMC period piece Turn will air its 90-minute series debut on April 6 at 9 PM.

Set in the summer of 1778, this new series tells the story of New York farmer Abe Woodhull (Jamie Bell from Billy Elliot), who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who turn the tide in America’s fight for independence.

The cast includes Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean franchise), JJ Feild (Austenland), Angus Macfayden (Braveheart) and Amy Gumenick (Supernatural).

Here are the news items for today:

TELEVISION

SundanceTV (formerly Sundance Channel) has picked up a new four-hour mini-series called One Child that stars actress Katie Leung (from the Harry Potter franchise) as Mei, a first-born Chinese girl adopted by English parents, who gets called back to Guangzhou when her birth mother desperately seeks her assistance in saving her son. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)

It looks like Once Upon a Time in Wonderland actor Michael Socha (formerly of the UK series Being Human) will be joining the mothership show: Once Upon a Time for the show’s fourth season (should it get renewed, which has not yet happened). This casting announcement hasn’t been confirmed by the network yet either, though. (Tierney Bricker at E! Online)

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

Newcomer Cory Michael Smith (who will appear in the upcoming HBO mini-series Olive Kitteridge) has landed a role in the FOX drama pilot Gotham where he will play Edward Nygma (aka The Riddler). (Jen Yamato at Deadline)

CSI Spin-Off: This pilot will center on Avery Ryan, Special Agent in Charge at the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI in Quantico, who is tasked with solving high-octane crimes that start in the mind, live on-line, and play out into the real world.

THOSE BEHIND THE SHOW: Anthony E. Zuiker (CSI creator), Carol Mendelsohn, Ann Donahue, Jonathan Littman (all three at CSI) and Jerry Bruckheimer

CAST: Patricia Arquette (Medium)

Madame Secretary: The pilot explores the personal and professional life of a maverick female Secretary of State as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life.

Lucky in Love

On April 5, Lucky in Love is the new Hallmark Channel movie that will debut at 7 PM.

For Mira Simon (Jessica Szohr from Gossip Girl) it feels like a prank when all of her dreams start coming true on April Fool’s Day. An April Fool, however, she is not: after three of her own tricks materialize, Mira finds herself promoted to the perfect job, dating the perfect man and living in the perfect home. Her huge promotion even allows her to work directly with her professional hero, CEO Erin Billings (Deidre Hall) and her friend, Jonah (Benjamin Hollingsworth from Signed Sealed Delivered), on a massive social media website relaunch. Even though it’s the life she’s always dreamed of, Mira starts to realize that actually living this dream is much harder than she imagined.
