Penny Dreadful

The Showtime thriller Penny Dreadful will debut on May 11 at 10 PM.

This psychosexual thriller will focus on some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all set in Victorian London.

The cast of characters are:

Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett from Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor) is a charming American who finds himself trapped in the darkest corners of Victorian London, Ethan’s charm and brash ways are catnip to the ladies. When Sir Malcolm enlists him to help in a personal quest, Ethan meets Brona Croft, a beautiful local with a mysterious past. But behind Ethan’s bright eyes lurk dark secrets. He is running from something, and his troubling past threatens to overtake him at every turn.

Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton from License to Kill) is a hardened African explorer on a deeply personal quest, Sir Malcolm has nonetheless paid a heavy price for his exciting career. Although his stately home is filled with marvelous souvenirs of his travels, it is devoid of family and loved ones. With Vanessa’s help, he is determined to right the wrongs of his past, but his toughest journey lies ahead.

Vanessa Ives (Eva Green from the box office film Dark Shadows) is a poised, mysterious and utterly composed, Vanessa is a seductive and formidable beauty full of secrets and danger. She is keenly observant — clairvoyant even — as well as an expert medium. Her supernatural gifts are powerful and useful to those around her, particularly Sir Malcolm, but they are also a heavy burden. Her inner demons are very real to her and everyone around her, and they threaten to destroy her relationships, her sanity, and her very life.

Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney from Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) is a fabulously wealthy young gentleman who is almost unnerving in his beauty. His skin seems to radiate a golden glow of intoxicating youth and promise. A recklessly abandoned sensualist, he has a devil-may-care attitude that borders on dangerous. Nothing seems to faze him, nor are any risks too great. In fact, he is unnaturally drawn to them.

Brona Croft (Billie Piper from Doctor Who) is a poor Irish immigrant to Victorian London trying to escape a dark and sordid past. The Gaelic meaning of her name is “sadness,” yet she remains lovely, spirited, and erotically alive. She forms a bond with Ethan Chandler, who will do anything for her.

Sembene (Danny Sapani from the box office film Trance) is an African man with ritual face scarring who serves as Sir Malcolm’s sentry and confidant. He has an air of mystery about him and his heroic efforts will prove invaluable to Sir Malcolm in his personal quest.

Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadway from the box office film The Lone Ranger) is a tender, gentle soul who is fascinated by the mysteries of life and death. He has dedicated himself to researching what makes something live, and has sacrificed everything for his scientific pursuit. But he is playing with fire, and his research pays off in shocking ways with devastating consequences.

Here is a trailer for Penny Dreadful.

Mom's Day Away

On May 10, the Hallmark Channel original movie Mom’s Day Away will debut at 8 PM.

Stay-at-home mom Laura Miller (Bonnie Somerville from Golden Boy) chose family life over a glamorous career. Her husband Michael (James Tupper from Men in Trees and Revenge), a workaholic realtor, eternally conducts business on his cell phone while her 17-year-old son (Iain Belcher from Radio Rebel) and 12-year-old daughter (relative newcomer Kaitlyn Bernard) are absorbed in their young life dramas.

It’s Mother’s Day weekend and still nobody is paying attention to Laura’s needs. Excitement is injected into Laura’s life when her dazzling and affluent BFF Trish (Ona Grauer from Elysium and Cult) shows up and whisks her off on an adventure-filled trip to a lavish resort.

Over this Mother’s Day weekend, Laura has an awakening, making up for lost time by overindulging in the resort’s luxurious offerings and rekindling her career aspirations. As Trish begins to reassess her own life choices during their time away, Laura considers that living her dreams won’t bring true happiness unless her family is along for the adventure.

Q&A SECTION (with TV Scoop Team at E! Online)

Question: In dire need of some Supernatural scoop on Castiel! I feel like I have not gotten enough time with my favorite angel this season! – Beth

TV Scoop Team: Well, then you’ll love what’s ahead! Castiel’s role in the final episodes of the season “is really important,” supervising producer Andrew Dabb previews. “He is part of the mythology as he has been in seasons past for us. He plays big in the last…episodes.” But what about Season 10?! “As far as next season goes, look, we love Misha [Collins]. Misha’s awesome. I have a hard time imagining the show without him.”

Question: I love Cosima and Delphine from Orphan Black so much! What’s coming up for their relationship? – Ashley

TV Scoop Team: Take it away, co-creator Graeme Mason! “I love Cophine too, but that relationship’s gonna remain on thin ice,” the showrunner exclusively revealed to us, “Their hearts are wrapped up in it, there’s no denying that. I don’t think Tatiana Maslany or Evelyn Brochu believe that their characters’ hearts aren’t in this, but there’s large forces at play. Delphine’s not above a power play, and Delphine has to learn to play dirty.” What do you think about that, Cophine lovers?

Question: Give me Sleepy Hollow! Now! – Cecilia

TV Scoop Team: Ok, but you could be nicer about it! In episode two, we’ll meet a new tall, muscular guy who’s great at sword-fighting, stunts, and horseback riding. Can you say third horseman of the apocalypse? Do you think it will be Conquest or Famine? Have you ever been so excited about a dude on a horse?! (We love this show.)

That’s it. Enjoy!
