Taxi Brooklyn

The new summer series Taxi Brooklyn will debut on NBC on June 25 at 10 PM.

This is an action-comedy police procedural centered on the fractious, closely bonded partnership between a streetwise Marseilles-born New York City taxi driver (African actor Jacky Ido from Lockout and Inglorious Basterds) and an intensely driven NYPD detective (Chyler Leigh from Grey’s Anatomy) for whom this immigrant cabbie becomes chauffeur, insider on the streets and unofficial partner.

The cast includes Ally Walker (Profiler and The Protector), Jennifer Esposito (Blue Bloods) and Jose Zuniga (Twilight and CSI).

TELEVISION

Actors Charles Mesure (Once Upon a Time and Crossing Jordan) and C. Thomas Howell (Southland and Grimm) will have recurring roles in Bravo’s first ever scripted series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce that follows Abby (Lisa Edelstein from House), the author of a self-help book series who’s hiding her separation from her husband from the public. Starting her life over again as a single woman in her 40s, she finds that advice from divorced friends leads to startling new adventures. Mesure will play Ralf, ex-husband to Phoebe (Beau Garrett from Criminal Minds) while Howell will play a love interest Abby. The series is set for a 2015 debut. (Jethro Nededog at The Wrap)

Actor Michael Vartan (Alias and Bates Motel) will recur on the upcoming USA Network drama Satisfaction that stars Matt Passmore (The Glades) as investment banker Neil Truman, and Stephanie Szostak (The Devil Wears Prada) as his unhappy wife Grace. Vartan will play Dylan, a daring photographer who helps Grace gain exposure in the design world. The series is set to debut on the USA Network on July 17. (Kaitlin Thomas at TV Guide)

ONLINE SERIES NEWS

Actress Rosario Dawson has joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix series Daredevil. She will appear in multiple episodes playing a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings blind attorney Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox from Boardwalk Empire) unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city. Vincent D’Onofrio has co-stars. (Philiana Ng at The Hollywood Reporter)

Tyrant

The new FX Middle East-set series Tyrant will debut on June 24 at 10 PM.

The drama tells the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. Bassam “Barry” Al Fayeed (Adam Rayner from Hunted and Hawthorne), the younger son of the dictator of a war-torn nation, ends a self-imposed 20-year exile to return to his homeland, accompanied by his American wife (Jennifer Finnigan from Close to Home) and children, for his nephew’s wedding. Barry’s reluctant homecoming leads to a dramatic clash of cultures as he is thrown back into the familial and national politics of his youth.

The cast includes Justin Kirk (Weeds), Jordana Spiro (My Boys) and Alice Krige (Star Trek franchise).

Singer/actor Cheyenne Jackson (30 Rock and Glee) will make a guest appearance on Royal Pains later this season, playing Sam, the owner of a custom perfumery who loses his sense of smell and finds his career jeopardized. (Jim Halterman at TV Fanatic)

Actors Harold Perrineau (Lost) Tom Everett Scott (Southland and Beauty And The Beast), DJ Qualls (Supernatural), Michael Welch (Twilight trilogy and Joan of Arcadia) and Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show) have all joined the ensemble 13-epoisode Syfy drama Z Nation that is set three years after a zombie virus has gutted the country. A team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Although the antibodies he carries are the world’s last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. (TV By the Numbers)

Actor James Marsters (Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Caprica) and actress Bianca Lawson (Pretty Little Liars and Teen Wolf) will both appear in the upcoming second season of Witches of East End on Lifetime. Marsters will guest-star as Tarkoff, an old family friend of Joanna’s (series lead Julia Ormond) who comes back into her life. Meanwhile, Lawson will play a mysterious woman named Eva. Witches of East End will return on July 6 on Lifetime. (Vlada Gelman and Andy Swift at TV Line)

Actor Niko Pepaj (Bunheads and The Protector) will have a recurring role on MTV’s Awkward playing Sergio, a confident and unflappable young man who works with Sadie (series regular Molly Tarlov) on the food truck. (The Deadline Team)

Actor Manolo Cardona (Reign and Covert Affairs) has joined the cast of the Netflix drama Narcos, which is the true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. It centers on notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal), a Mexican DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture and ultimately kill him. Cardona will play Eduardo Mendoza, the baby-faced chief of the National Prison System, an inexperienced, kind, idealistic man-child with a can-do attitude who was wrongly blamed for Escobar’s escape from La Catedral. BOX OFFICE NEWS

Actor Clayne Crawford (Rectify) has landed a role in the thriller flick Spectral that is being described as a supernatural Black Hawk Down that will star James Badge Dale (Rubicon and 24). There are no specific details on the film, but Crawford will play Sergeant Calvin Toll, a focused but short-fused military lifer. The cast also includes Max Martini (The Unit, Revenge and Castle).
