Here is a list of the programming options to expect on TV this week:
The new MTV drama Finding Carter will on July 8 debut at 10 PM. The series centers on Carter Kathryn Prescott (Skins and Reign), a teenage girl who thinks she has the perfect life until one night after a police bust at a high school party she is told that the woman who she believes to be her biological mother actually abducted her as a toddler. The cast includes Cynthia Watros (Lost) and Alexis Denisof (Angel and Grimm).
On July 9, The Bridge returns for its second season on FX at 10 PM while over on CBS the new drama Extant will debut at 9 PM. Extant stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history. The cast includes Goran Visnjic (ER) and Camryn Manheim (Ghost Whisperer and Person of Interest).
The Australian series The Almighty Johnsons will debut on July 11 on Syfy at 10 PM. The show follows a student named Axl Johnson, who on his 21st birthday discovers his family members are reincarnated Norse gods. The problem is, they do not have full control of their powers and it is up to Axl (the reincarnation of Odin) to restore them and ensure the family’s survival by finding the reincarnation of Odin’s wife, Frigg.
Also that night, the second season of the Netflix original series Hemlock Grove will release all 10 episodes online.
The UP Channel movie Comeback Dad will debut on July 12 at 8 PM. Nima Babineaux (Tatyana Ali) looks like a woman who has it all – she is an accomplished pianist who runs her own music school and is engaged to Spence (Brad James), a successful engineer who adores her. But, in truth, she has never recovered from her alcoholic father, Othell (Charles S. Dutton), walking out on their family and it has made it hard for her to truly trust anyone. When Othell decides it is time to make amends and tries to reenter her life, Nima begins an emotional and eye-opening journey she could have never expected. The film also stars Loretta Devine.
On July 13, Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex will return to Showtime for their second seasons at 9 and 10 PM respectively. That same night the new vampire drama The Strain will debut on FX at 10 PM. The Strain focuses on a plane that lands at JFK International Airport with the lights off and doors sealed, which brings in epidemiologist Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll from House of Cards) and his team to investigate. On board they find two hundred corpses and four survivors. The situation deteriorates when the bodies begin disappearing from morgues. Goodweather and a small group of helpers find themselves battling to protect not only their own loved ones, but the entire city, from an ancient threat to humanity. The cast includes Mia Maestro (Alias), Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings franchise), Kevin Durand (Lost and Dark Angel) and David Bradley (Harry Potter franchise).
