On October 1, the new thriller Stalker will debut on CBS at 10 PM.
Maggie Q (Nikita) and Dylan McDermott (Hostages and American Horror Story) star in this psychological thriller about detectives who investigate stalking incidents, including voyeurism, cyber harassment and romantic fixation for the Threat Assessment Unit of the LAPD.
Detective Jack Larsen (McDermott) is a recent transfer to the Unit from New York City’s homicide division, whose confidence, strong personality and questionable behavior has landed him in trouble before – but whose past behavior may also prove valuable in his new job.
His boss, Lt. Beth Davis (Maggie Q), is strong, focused and an expert in the field, driven by her traumatic personal experience as a victim.
With the rest of their team, young but eager Det. Ben Caldwell (Victor Rasuk from How to Make It in America) and deceptively smart Det. Janice Lawrence (Mariana Klaveno from True Blood and Devious Maids) , Larsen and Davis assess the threat level of cases and respond before the stalking and intimidation spirals out of control, all while trying to keep their personal obsessions at bay.
NOTE: This show has some very disturbing scenes. Parental discretion is advised.

DEVELOPMENT NEWS
Actor Josh Holloway (Lost and Intelligence) has signed on to star in the USA Network pilot Colony that will be executive produced by Carlton Cuse (who was the EP on Lost). The pilot is a family drama/thriller about life in Los Angeles after a mysterious “foreign” occupation. Holloway will play the main character, Will Bowman, a former FBI agent who, to protect his family, is forced to collaborate with the occupational government to bring down the growing resistance movement inside the Los Angeles colony. (Cynthia Littleton at Variety and Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)
Actor Zachary Levi (Chuck) just might be returning to NBC to star in a new project that he will produce with Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives). The project is a half-hour comedy called Tuned that will showcase Levi’s musical skills; fans will recall that he sang in the animated box office film Tangled. Tuned is being described as a musical half-hour about an ambitious New Yorker whose life is upended by sudden musical hallucinations. While these vivid hallucinations threaten to completely derail his enviable life, he’ll eventually realize that they might lead him on a more fulfilling journey. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)
TNT has ordered a pilot called Lumen from Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment. The project would be centered on a family of four who stumble into an alternate world that was actually chronicled in the pages of books written by an author of best-selling fantasy books who recently disappeared. As they try to make their way back home, the family finds themselves stuck in the middle of a war between magical forces. (Michael Schneider at TV Guide)
For whatever reason NBC is developing a small screen adaptation of the 1985 Val Kilmer movie Real Genius as a comedy for the network. This version would be set in present-day, centering on the relationship between a rock star-like genius and a sheltered, naive co-worker. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)

Q&A SECTION (with Matt Mitovich at TV Line and Natalie Abrams at Entertainment Weekly)
Question: Now that Scandal‘s Sally Langston has lost the presidential election, any intel on what will become of the former VP? –Dan
Mitovich: Good question – and one that might not be answered in full for a while. “I don’t know when I’ll be back,” Kate Burton told us at the #TGIF event. “It’ll probably be the second half of the season — that’s what they’ve told me — but [Shonda Rhimes] might change her mind and say, ‘No, we’re going to do something next season.’ Who knows.” But whenever the time comes, expect juicy stuff. Says Burton with a smile, “I mean, how can Sally Langston not be juicy?”
Question: What’s the status of Mellie and Andrew’s relationship when Scandal returns? –bevoette
Mitovich: It appears their red-hot affair has cooled off considerably, in the wake of the First Family losing a child. “Andrew is not at peace with where things stand with him and Mellie,” Jon Tenney says. “That being said, at the end of last season, Mellie and Fitz just lost their first child, and so I think romance may not be the first thing on her mind.” As Bellamy Young herself tells is, mourning Mellie “is in a whole new place, an uncharted, unprecedented wilderness for her.”
Question: Do you know if The Flash is looking to introduce any more of the Rogues from the comics? – Andy B.
Mitovich: In addition to the likes of Captains Cold and Boomerang, at midseason we will also meet Hartley, a onetime mentee of Dr. Wells’ who lost his hearing in an accident and now is out to wreak havoc with an invention of his own. (Of course, you may know Hartley — who happens to be gay — as the Pied Piper.)
Question: Is Once Upon a Time planning any flashbacks to Emma’s life in the foster system? –Marissa
Mitovich: I can’t confirm they cover her time as a foster kid specifically, but we will get a good, long look at a younger Emma (likely played by a different actress). And as Jennifer Morrison teased for me, “There is a bit of a curveball in the flashbacks that I did not see coming, one that definitely adds a layer of suspense to how all of the puzzle pieces fit together.”
Question: I see everyone asking about a lot of relationships on Once Upon a Time, but they never ask about Regina/Snow. Will their relationship continued to be explored? –Ana
Mitovich: You’re in luck. Ginnifer Goodwin told us at the premiere party that fans such as yourself “will be very satisfied, because we do have many more scenes between the two of us. Lana [Parrilla] and I actually call the [producers] on a regular basis thanking them and asking them for more, because I personally find those scenes to be very powerful. The dynamic between them is so rich and we love exploring it.”
Question: Have you got anything on how things are with Mary and Francis when Reign comes back (on Oct. 2)? –Bree
Mitovich: In the season premiere? Distant. Francis is off with Lola, trying to protect them, while Mary is trying to avoid the plague in the castle. But once he returns home, things could be looking up as Mary “spends a lot of the first three episodes naked,” star Adelaide Kane reveals. “We’re sexy this season.” However, the whole Lola/baby situation will make things “awkward” around the castle for everyone involved.
Question: I was so surprised that Lucy Lawless’ character died in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season premiere! Is there a chance to see her in any of the following episodes? Or is there any chance to watch Lucy on other shows, like Parks and Recreation? –Natalie
Mitovich: Sorry, but plan to be Hartley-broken – that was Lawless’ one and only appearance. As for returning to Pawnee, she discussed that in our Q&A.
Question: Got a scoop about the “guy that kills bad guys” aka Peter Quinn on Homeland? What’s going on with him? –Ricky
Mitovich: As made clear in the Season 4 premiere (airing Oct. 5), Quinn would rather you not remind him of that reputation. He’s kinda fried by the events of Season 3 (including but not limited to what he did to that poor kid), and as such will endeavor to pull Carrie out of the all-too-often needlessly deadly spy game. And that concern her may pave the way for a new… closeness. As show boss Alex Gansa said to me, in recounting the important people in Carrie’s life nowadays, “She’s got a burgeoning relationship – although not romantic, yet – with Peter Quinn.”
Question: Excited for Adrianne Palicki to come on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Mockingbird. Do you have any scoop on her character? — Mark
Natalie: I can tell you that the show will explore the power of sexuality when Mockingbird is introduced.” That is a quality and something that is very inherent in a lot of spy dealings,” executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen tells me. “It’s not really dealt with firsthand, and that might be something that we dive into with Mockingbird.” Check out this week’s issue of EW for more scoop on her introduction.
Question: What’s coming up on Sleepy Hollow? — Thom
Natalie: Abraham will do his best to fill Katrina’s head with doubts about Ichabod and Abbie’s relationship in a bid to win her over, but she’s got a plan up her sleeve that could benefit several parties. Meanwhile, we’ll finally get to see what has happened to Irving after he took the fall for his daughter. Let’s just say that the new sheriff has big plans for Irving, none of which are good.
Question: I want some scoop on Maleficent returning to Once Upon a Time. — Ryan
Natalie: It should come as no surprise that Maleficent’s storyline will have a connection to Aurora, a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty—which in turn brings the hope that Mulan might also return. But Aurora isn’t the only character who should be worried about Maleficent’s return. The sorceress will not be too pleased about Regina having locked her up beneath Storybrooke. “They were frenemies,” executive producer Edward Kitsis reminds everyone, noting that what’s in store for the second half of the season will be revealed in the winter finale.
Question: Any more news on Arrow’s version of Ra’s al Ghul? — Scott
Natalie: Fans of the comic books will be pretty excited for this incarnation of the Batman villain. “Now that the Arrow/Flash universe contains people with powers and contains the Mirakuru serum, it gives us a bit more license to be a little more ‘comic book-y’ than certainly even Christopher Nolan set out to do,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says. So, what’s the big bad really after? “A lot of the themes for Oliver’s journey that we were discussing this season are wrapped up in identity,” he continues. “Can he be both Oliver Queen and the Arrow? A lot of that turned out to get tied up with what we thought of Ra’s al Ghul and who he was and where he came from and what his ultimate goals are. All of those things lined up perfectly.”
Question: I never would’ve guessed that Naomi was Red’s wife on The Blacklist! Does Berlin plan to kill her? — Jenna
Natalie: Having previously been married to Red, Naomi is pretty formidable. Therefore, while she is being held captive, she may just get the upper hand on Berlin’s men. Meanwhile, Red will go to great lengths to hit Berlin where it hurts most in a bid to get Naomi back.
With the return of the ABC fairytale drama Once Upon a Time this Sunday night at 8 PM, it is time to take a look back at the visit made at Comic Con 2014 in San Diego by the cast and creative minds behind the show.
On the panel that morning included Lana Parrilla (The Evil Queen), Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan), Josh Dallas (Prince Charming), Emilie de Ravin (Belle), Robert Carlyle (Rumplestilskin), Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Hook), Jared Gilmore (Henry Mills) and executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.
With self-proclaimed Once Upon a Time super-fan and actress Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) acting as moderator, the panel was opened with a clip reel from season three and each of the panelists being introduced to the roar of the packed audience.
Among the subjects that were discussed included the following:
• Eddy and Adam talking about how their “true love” stories have happy endings that aren’t what views expect;
• Belle and Rumple are not going to have an easy start to their marriage because of his deception (in regards to keeping the dagger) despite his genuine love for her and Emilie shared that Belle will “be devastated” when she learns the truth;
• Jared was praised by Yvette for being the heart of the show and how “chilling” it was to see him play Peter Pan; with Jared saying “it was amazing (because) Henry is so nice and Pan would do anything to be the opposite”;
• Lana shared that she is “proud of Regina’s growth” over this past season, but with the unexpected return of Robin Hood’s believed-to-be-dead wife Marian, things are going to be complicated and there is a possibility that she could return to her “old ways”;
• Emma and Hook will attempt to work on their relationship, but Emma is also “on a journey to find herself”;
• Colin shared that for the first time ever Hook will be out of the 50-pound leather jacket that has been his common attire, getting into “regular clothes”; and,
• Josh was congratulated on the recent birth of his and Ginnifer’s real-life “prince” with him sharing that “fatherhood is the greatest thing that has ever happened to (him)”.
NOTE: It was at this time that a special video of Ginnifer was shown, as she was on set in Canada, but she wanted to say hello to all the fans at the convention. The video, of course, was a spoof of her being a ‘crazy, protective, on-set mom”. It was really quite funny!
During the audience Q&A, Colin shared that “Emma helped (Hook) find his goodness”; Lana said that she has “never been bored” playing a character that has changed from evil to good to potentially evil again and Jennifer enjoyed traveling to New York and Neverland, but she is looking forward to riding a horse because she “hasn’t gotten to do that (yet)” and she said she enjoyed “getting initiated into the fairytale world” by wearing the corsets and dresses.
One tidbit that Eddy and Adam were willing to reveal is that Henry will be going into the family pawn business with Mr. Gold; but when asked if Flynn Ryder from the animated movie Tangled would be added to the guest list, they were mum on the subject. They also shared that it is their “job, at the end of the day, to have everyone get their own happy ending” so let’s see how that works out on Sunday when the princesses Elsa and Anna from the animated Disney film Frozen join the cast.
Once Upon a Time will be back for its fourth season on ABC this Sunday, September 28 at 8/7c. If you are a true fan of the show, you will also want to watch the Once Upon a Time Special “Frozen Over” that will air at 7/6c.
As we edge closer to the end of the first full week of fall TV season, here is how the Thursday night dramas, including four premieres and one debut – fared in the overall ratings last night:

With today’s announcement by Starz of the return date for the back half of the first season of the now acclaimed drama Outlander and the ensuing negative reaction by fans, I felt it was important to focus a piece about why cable networks choose to have such long breaks between their seasons.
While fans may think the networks are taking them for granted, this type of practice is actually quite typical for the networks. After all, the major networks usually have a four-month break between the end of one season and the beginning of the next season, giving viewers a break over the long summer. The same can be said for cable networks, who schedule their season breaks anywhere between just a few weeks or up to five, even, six months.
That is the current case with Outlander. The mid-season finale of the series, which is based on the international best-selling novel by Diana Gabaldon, will air this Saturday, September 27; and since it is a mid-season finale the episode will be intense, it will have lots of action and it will have a cliffhanger ending (yes, I have seen the episode and it is that GOOD!).
Now here is the problem that the fans have: the show won’t be back for the last eight episodes of its debut season until April 4, 2015. How can the network delay the return of the show for so long? Why would they make the fans wait all that time? I am sure many fans are feeling dejected, angry, upset – hell! – even pissed about the lengthy wait, but the network is not doing this to upset the viewers.
Sure, the network – being a subscription network – wants to make money from their subscribers by keeping them around; and the powers that be at the network are, most likely, hopeful that many subscribers will simply stick around until that April date so they can watch the remainder of the Outlander episodes. Sadly, many of the subscribers won’t, but hopefully they will come back to the network when that date finally draws closer.
But, the main point that viewers and fans of Outlander – and nearly every other cable show currently on the air – should understand is this type of lengthy break is not uncommon. Outlander, nor its fans, is being singled out.
The following are just a few examples of the lengthy breaks that cable networks schedule for their shows, whether it is a mid-season break or the gap between one season and the next season:
Hallmark Channel – The network debuted their new series When Calls the Heart back on January 11 of this year, airing all 12 episodes of the debut season straight through to March 29. Fans of that show, however, had to wait until May to learn whether the series was even getting a second season. But once that announcement was made, the fans learned they will have to wait until May of 2015 for the second season to air.
USA Network – Suits has been on the air for four seasons now with the fifth season set to air next year. The show’s first season ended in September of 2011 with the second season not starting until June of 2012 while the current fourth season just ended on August 20 of this year with the fifth season scheduled to return sometime next summer.
Syfy – The new sci-fi series Defiance debuted in 2013 running 12 episodes from April 13 through July 8. The second season of the series had 13 episodes, but did not return until June 19 of this year.
ABC Family – The debut season of The Fosters consisted of 21 episodes with the first episode airing on June 3, 2013. The first 10 episodes aired through August 5 but the show didn’t return for the remainder of its freshman year until January 13, 2014.
TNT – The remake of Dallas debuted back on June 13, 2012 running its 10 episode freshman season through August 8. The second season of the series did not air until January 28, 2013, running 15 episodes though April 15, 2013. The current third season premiered on February 24, 2014 and ended on September 22.
AMC – Every single season of this long-running period piece drama Mad Men has had a long gap between seasons. The series debuted on July 19, 2007 running for 13 episodes through October 18, 2007. The second season did not return until July 27, 2008 running through October 26, 2008. The third season returned on August 16, 2009 and ended on November 8, 2009. The fourth season of the show aired from July 25, 2010 through October 17, 2010; but there was a large gap – nearly 1 ½ years – between the previous season and the fifth season with the show returning on March 25, 2012. That season ended on June 10, 2012 with the sixth season not coming back until April 7, 2013. The sixth season ended on June 23, 2013 with the seventh season not coming back until April 13, 2014. The first half of the current seventh season concluded on May 25, 2014 with the remainder of the seventh season not scheduled to return until sometime next spring.
Needless to say, there are gaps – even lengthy ones – for many, if not all, cable dramas not just Outlander; and while I agree wholeheartedly with the fans who are upset about the well over 6 month gap for the show’s first season, this is just standard practices for cable as well as major networks. The break for Outlander’s first season is not a slight against the viewers or the fans and I certainly hope that the fans will take time during the break to enjoy watching and re-watching the eight episodes that will have aired by this weekend and even go a little old school by reading (or re-reading) the book on which the series is based.
Outlander fans: Please enjoy the mid-season finale, as it is really good and you’ll love it – even with the cliffhanger ending – and enjoy the break by rejoicing in the fact that the show will return on April 4, 2015 AND it will have a second season based on the second book in the hugely popular franchise.
We are halfway through the first week of the Fall TV Season for the major networks and here is how all of the Wednesday night dramas fared in the overall ratings:
8 PM Show: The Mysteries of Laura (NBC) [Time Slot Premiere] – 9.9 million
9 PM Shows Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC) [Season Premiere] – 10.1 million Red Band Society (FOX) [NEW] – 3.4 million
10 PM Shows: Chicago P.D. (NBC) [Season Premiere] – 8.4 million Nashville (ABC) [Season Premiere] – 5.6 million
What did you watch on TV last night? Please share.
PBS will air the Miss Marple “Endless Night” at 9 PM.
Acclaimed British actress Julia McKenzie (Cranford) returns as spinster sleuth Miss Marple. Miss Marple befriends a charming working-class chauffeur who recounts his romance with an American heiress. Despite being warned off by an elusive gypsy woman, they plan their dream home at a local spot known as Gypsy’s Acre. Not long after the young couple is wed, a tragic death fuels speculation of a gypsy curse. When two suspicious deaths follow, Miss Marple begins to sort out the clues, but can she solve the mystery before she finds herself in danger?
The cast includes Tom Hughes (Silk) and Joanna Vanderham (The Paradise).
The Starz series Outlander, based on the best-selling novel by Diana Gabaldon, debuted back on August 9 and over the course of the past 7 weeks has captured the hearts of TV viewers with its tale of Claire Beauchamp (series lead Caitriona Balfe), a World War II nurse in 1945, who – after touching the standing stones in Inverness in the Scottish Highlands – travels through time to 1743 where she encounters the clan McKenzie and meets young Jamie McTavish (Fraser) [series lead Sam Heughan].
Those seven episodes have found Claire adapt, as best she can, to her new surroundings – albeit forced upon her by the Laird and War Chief of the clan (series regulars Gary Lewis and Graham McTavish, respectively) – by becoming the Healer of Castle Leoch, the home of the clan.
She has become friends with Castle Leoch’s housekeeper Mrs. Fitz (recurring guest star Annette Badland) and local village woman and wife of the procurator fiscal (basically the village’s attorney/judge) Geillis Duncan (series regular Lotte Verbeek); and, to an extent, even young Laoghaire MacKenzie (recurring guest star Nell Hudson), a 16-year girl (and granddaughter of Mrs. Fitz), who has a crush on Jamie.
Unfortunately, she has several uncomfortable encounters with Captain Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall, a direct descendant of her husband Frank Randall (the dual role played by series regular Tobias Menzies), which leads Dougal to arranging a marriage between Claire and Jamie in order to save her life from the sadistic bastard, who was the cause behind the horrible wounds on Jamie’s back (two floggings within a week subjected on the young lad several years earlier).
This past Saturday’s episode, entitled “The Wedding“, was one of the most anticipated moments out of the small screen adaptation of the book and did not disappoint. And, with the mid-season finale, entitled “Both Sides Now“, only a few days away – set to air on Starz on Saturday, September 27, the anticipation for what will happen is great.
Fans can take heart that even though the series will be going on a break, it will not be for too long, as 8 more episodes of its debut season will air on Starz in early 2015, continuing on with the remainder of the story of Claire, Jamie and the clan McKenzie.
And, even better news is that Starz decided early on that the show will have a second season, following the second book in the Gabaldon “Outlander” series entitled “Dragonfly in Autumn“.
Don’t miss out on the mid-season finale this Saturday at 9 PM on Starz.
