Fall TV is now here but that doesn’t mean the end of cable programming. There were plenty of dramatic programming options throughout the month as well as made-for-TV movies and mini-series. Here are the ratings for the cable dramas and more for October:
CABLE DRAMAS
TUESDAYS:
Sons of Anarchy – The long-running FX drama aired four more new episodes of its seventh and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 4.3 million
October 14 – 4.4 million
October 21 – 4.3 million
October 28 – 4 million
This averages out to 4.3 million viewers for October. A new episode of Sons of Anarchy aired on FX on November 4 with the next new episode set to air on Tuesday, November 11 at 10 PM. Ratings for those episodes will appear on next month’s report.
If Loving You Is Wrong – The new OWN drama aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 1.8 million
October 14 – 1.6 million
October 21 – 1.7 million
October 28 – 1.7 million
This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for October. A new episode of If Loving You Is Wrong aired on OWN on November 4 with the next new episode set to air on Tuesday, November 11 at 9 PM. Ratings for those episodes will appear on next month’s report.
The season finale of Matador aired on El Rey Network on October 7, but ratings could not be tracked down for that episode.
The Halloween fan-appreciation special of the ABC Family drama Pretty Little Liars aired on October 21, earning 1.3 million viewers. The Christmas episode of Pretty Little Liars will air on December 9.
WEDNESDAYS:
Legends – The TNT Sean Bean-led drama aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 1.1 million
October 8 – 1.1 million (Two-Hour Finale)
This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for October. There is no word yet if TNT will renew Legends for a second season.
American Horror Story: Freak Show – The FX anthology series returned with its new incarnation on October 8, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 8 – 6.1 million (Season Premiere)
October 15 – 4.5 million
October 22 – 4.4 million
October 29 – 4.5 million
This averages out to 4.9 million viewers for October. A new episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show aired on FX on November 5 with the next new episode set to air on November 12 at 10 PM. Ratings for those episodes will appear on next month’s report.
Franklin & Bash – The final three episodes of the fourth season of the TNT legal dramedy aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 793,000 viewers
October 15 – 876,000 viewers
October 22 – 975,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 881,000 viewers for October. There is no word yet on whether TNT has renewed Franklin & Bash for another season.
The DirecTV drama Kingdom debuted on October 8, airing four episodes of its debut season during the month. Ratings for those episodes, however, could not be tracked down. A new episode of Kingdom aired on DirecTV on November 5 with the next episode set to on Wednesday, November 12 at 10 PM.
FRIDAYS:
Haven – The Syfy series aired five episodes of its current season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 2 – 720,000 viewers (Final Thursday Airing)
October 10 – 820,000 viewers (Moved to New Night on Fridays)
October 17 – 945,000 viewers
October 24 – 758,000 viewers
October 31 – 847,000 viewers
This averages out to 818,000 viewers for October. A new episode of Haven is set to air tonight, November 7 on Syfy at 7 PM.
The Knick – The period piece Cinemax drama aired the finale three episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 3 – 350,000 viewers
October 10 – 320,000 viewers
October 17 – 410,000 viewers (Finale)
This averages out to 360,000 viewers for October. The Knick has been renewed for a second season that will air sometime next year on Cinemax.
Z Nation – The new Syfy zombie series aired five episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 3 – 1.6 million
October 10 – 1.3 million
October 17 – 1.6 million
October 24 – 1.3 million
October 31 – 1.1 million
This averages out to 1.4 million viewers for October. A new episode of Z Nation is set to air tonight, November 7 on Syfy at 10 PM.
SATURDAYS:
The mid-season finale of Hell on Wheels aired on AMC on October 4, earning 2.3 million viewers. The show will return for the remainder of its season on Saturday, November 8 at 9 PM
Doctor Who – The long-running series aired four more new episodes of its current season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 4 – 940,000 viewers
October 11 – 974,000 viewers
October 18 – No ratings could be tracked down
October 25 – 1.1 million
This averages out to 1 million viewers for October. Part 1 of the 2-part season finale of Doctor Who aired on November 1 with the conclusion of the season finale set to air on Saturday, November 8 on BBC America at 9 PM. Ratings for those episodes will be featured in next month’s report.
The final two episodes of the BBC America series Intruders aired on October 4 and October 11, but ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down.
The season finale of Cedar Cove aired on October 4, but no ratings for that episode could be tracked down. Cedar Cove will be back for a third season on Hallmark Channel next summer.
The first season of Transporter: The Series debuted on October 18 on TNT with two back-to-back episodes, earning approximately 1.2 million viewers for the night. Another two episodes aired on October 25, but ratings could not be tracked down for those episodes. Two more episodes aired on TNT on both November 1 with two more new episodes set to air on Saturday, November 8 at 9 and 10 PM.
SUNDAYS:
Manhattan – The period piece WGN America drama its final three episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 370,000 viewers
October 12 – 410,000 viewers
October 19 – 380,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 387,000 viewers during October. Manhattan has been renewed for a second season that will air on WGN America sometime next year.
The two-hour season finale of the second season of Witches of East End aired on October 5, earning 1.1 million viewers. Sadly, Lifetime canceled the show.
The season finale of The Strain aired on October 5 on FX, garnering 2.1 million viewers. The Strain will return for a second season on FX sometime next year.
Boardwalk Empire – The HBO period piece drama aired the final four episodes of its fifth and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 1.9 million
October 12 – 1.6 million
October 19 – 2 million
October 26 – 2.3 million (Series Finale)
This average out to 2 million viewers for October.
The Walking Dead – The popular AMC thriller returned for its fifth season starting on October 12, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 12 – 17.3 million
October 19 – 15.1 million
October 26 – 13.8 million
This averages out to 15.4 million viewers for October. A new episode of The Walking Dead aired on AMC on November 2 with the next new episode set to air on Sunday, November 9 at 9 PM. Ratings for those episodes will be featured in next month’s report.
Homeland – The Showtime drama returned for its fourth season on October 5, airing five episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 1.6 million (Two back-to-back episodes – Season Premiere)
October 12 – 1.2 million
October 19 – 1.3 million
October 26 – 1.5 million
This averages out to 1.4 million viewers for October. A new episode of Homeland aired on Showtime on November 2 with the next new episode set to air on Sunday, November 9 at 9 PM. Ratings for those episodes will be featured in next month’s report.
The Affair – The new Showtime drama debuted on October 12, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 12 – 509,000 viewers (DEBUT)
October 19 – 512,000 viewers
October 26 – 559,000 viewers
This averages out to 527,000 viewers for October. A new episode of The Affair aired on Showtime on November 2 with the next new episode set to air on Sunday, November 9 at 10 PM. Ratings for those episodes will be featured in next month’s report.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES
There were nearly 20 made-for-TV movies and mini-series that aired on the cable networks during October. Here is a list of the few movies where ratings could be found:
