The Fall TV season has come to a close with the holiday break just behind us; and we are now gearing up for the start of the spring TV season very soon. And while December is typically a slow month programming-wise there were still some dramatic options airing during the month as well as nearly two dozen made-for-TV movies, mini-series, event series and/or holiday specials.
Here are the ratings for the cable dramas and more for December:
CABLE DRAMAS
MONDAYS:
Major Crimes – The TNT drama aired five new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 1 – 4 million
December 8 – 3.6 million
December 15 – 3.5 million
December 22 – 3.8 million
December 29 – 4.4 million
This averages out to 3.9 million viewers for December. A new episode of Major Crimes will air on January 5 on TNT at 9 PM.
ABC Family aired Christmas episodes of their dramas The Fosters and Switched at Birth on December 8. The Fosters earned 1.9 million viewers while Switched at Birth garnered 1.4 million viewers.
Switched at Birth will be back on ABC Family starting on Tuesday, January 6 at 9 PM while The Fosters will be back on ABC Family starting on January 19 at 8 PM.
TUESDAYS:
Sons of Anarchy – The long-running FX drama aired the last two episodes of its seventh and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 2 – 5.1 million
December 9 – 6.4 million (Series Finale)
This averages out to 5.8 million viewers for December.
Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – The first scripted drama on Bravo debuted on December 2, airing five episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 2 – 1 million
December 9 – 847,000 viewers
December 16 – 700,000 viewers
December 23 – 767,000 viewers
December 30 – 868,000 viewers
This averages out to 836,000 viewers for December. A new episode of Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce will air on January 6 on Bravo at 10 PM.
ABC Family aired Christmas episodes of their dramas Pretty Little Liars and Chasing Life on December 9. Pretty Little Liars earned 2.1 million viewers while Chasing Life garnered 1.2 million viewers.
Pretty Little Liars will be back on ABC Family starting on Tuesday, January 6 at 8 PM while Chasing Life will move to Monday nights on ABC Family starting on January 19 at 9 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
American Horror Story: Freak Show – The FX anthology series aired three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 3 – 3.3 million
December 10 – 3.1 million
December 17 – 3 million (Winter Finale)
This averages out to 3.1 million viewers for December. A new episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show will air on FX on January 7 at 10 PM.
The DirecTV drama Kingdom aired its final two episodes during the month, but ratings for those episodes, however, could not be tracked down.
The 6-part BBC America mini-series The Game aired its last two episodes during the month, but ratings could not be tracked down for those airings.
THURSDAYS:
White Collar – The long-running USA Network series aired the final three episodes of its sixth and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 4 – 1.6 million
December 11 – 1.6 million
December 18 – 1.9 million (Series Finale)
This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for December.
Covert Affairs – The USA Network spy drama aired its final three episodes of its fifth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 4 – 1.4 million
December 11 – 1.3 million
December 18 – 1.6 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.4 million viewers for December. A decision has not been made by the USA Network as to whether Covert Affairs will be renewed for a sixth season.
FRIDAYS:
Haven – The mid-season finale of the Syfy series aired on December 5, earning 914,000 viewers. A return date for Haven has yet to be announced by Syfy.
Z Nation – The new Syfy zombie series aired its season finale on December 5, garnering 1.4 million viewers. Z Nation has been renewed for a second season by Syfy, which will air sometime in 2015.
SATURDAYS:
Transporter: The Series – The second season of Transporter: The Series actually got started on TNT on November 29 and aired new episodes all through December. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
November 29 – 806,000 viewers
December 6 – 1.2 million
December 13 – 1.2 million
December 20 – 797,000 viewers
December 27 – 814,000 viewers
This averages out to 963,000 viewers for December. The next new episode of Transporter: The Series will air on TNT on January 3 at 10 PM.
The Missing – The new Starz mini-series The Missing aired three more episodes of its debut during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 6 – 221,000 viewers
December 13 – No numbers could be tracked down
December 20 – No numbers could be tracked down
This averages out to approximately 221,000 viewers for December. A new episode of The Missing will air on Starz on Saturday, January 3 at 9 PM.
Atlantis – The second season of the BBC America drama aired three new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 6 – No numbers could be tracked down
December 13 – 150,000 viewers
December 20 – 258,000 viewers (Mid-Season Finale)
This averages out to approximately 204,000 viewers for December. Atlantis will return sometime in 2015 for the remainder of its second season on BBC America.
SUNDAYS:
Homeland – The Showtime drama aired the final three episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 7 – 1.9 million
December 14 – 2.1 million
December 21 – 1.9 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 2 million viewers for December. The fifth season of Homeland will air on Showtime sometime in 2015.
The Affair – The new Showtime drama aired the final three episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 7 – 760,000 viewers
December 14 – 837,000 viewers
December 21 – 951,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 849,000 viewers for December. The Affair was renewed by Showtime for a second season, which will air sometime in 2015.
The Newsroom – The HBO drama came to a close in December, airing its final two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 7 – 1.4 million
December 14 – 1.6 million (Series Finale)
This averages out to 1.5 million viewers for December.
The Librarians – The TNT series based on the network’s trilogy of films aired its two-hour debut on December 7 followed by three more new episodes of the debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
December 7 – 5.4 million (Two-Hour DEBUT)
December 14 – 3.3 million
December 21 – 3.2 million
December 38 – 4.1 million
This averages out to 3.2 million viewers for December. A new episode of The Librarians will air on Sunday, January 4 on TNT at 8 PM.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES, MINI-SERIES, EVENT SERIES AND HOLIDAY SPECIALS
