Hey All,

Here are the news items for today:

TELEVISION

Veteran actor James Cromwell has joined the cast of the AMC 1980’s set drama Halt And Catch Fire, which focuses on the early days of the computer industry. He will play Jacob Wheeler, a self-made Texas millionaire and energy company CEO, who is looking to expand his corporate reach. That expansion brings him both close alliance and in conflict with the ever ambitious Joe MacMillan (series lead Lee Pace). (Dominic Patten at Deadline)

Actress Sarah Carter (Falling Skies) has landed a series regular role opposite actress Thandie Newton and actor Cole Hauser on the third season of the DirecTV series Rogue. She will play Harper Deakins, a mid-level DEA agent who doesn’t always know when to shut up. (The Deadline Team)

Actors Lee Tergesen (Oz) and Conrad Coates (The Strain) will both appear in the Syfy series Defiance that will pick up its third season on the eve of an impending military siege on the town of Defiance. Tergesen will play Castithan General Rahm Tak, a ruthless, arrogant leader in the Votanis Collective who sees Defiance — now free of Earth Republic oversight — as a symbolic target in his pursuit of power; and Coates will play T’evgin, the leader of the Omec who reluctantly carries the burden of his species’ survival on his shoulders. Defiance is set to premiere this summer. (Matt Mitovich at TV Line)

Allegiance

The new NBC drama Allegiance will debut on February 5 at 10 PM.

Relative newcomer Gavin Stenhouse plays Alex O’Connor, a young idealistic CIA analyst specializing in Russian affairs, who learns a shocking secret about his close-knit, affluent family when it is revealed that his parents, Mark (Scott Cohen, from Necessary Roughness and Gilmore Girls) and Katya (Hope Davis from The Newsroom) are covert Russian spies deactivated decades ago. But today the Kremlin has re-enlisted them into service as they plan a terrorist operation inside the U.S. border that will bring America to its knees. Years ago, Russian-born Katya was tasked by the KGB to recruit American businessman Mark O’Connor as a spy – and the two fell in love.

A deal was struck: As long as Katya remained an asset for Russia, and it was agreed that her services could be called on in the future, she would be allowed to marry Mark and move to America. After years in America building a happy life and without word from Moscow, they thought they had escaped. Now it seems that the new Mother Russia has one more mission – turning Alex into a spy.

Here is a trailer for Allegiance.
