Shekoni’s role, however, is being kept under wraps. Also, actor Ryan Guzman (The Boy Next Door and Pretty Little Liars) has also joined the series where he will play a former military guy (that is the only detail on his character that has been made available). (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline and Sydney Bucksbaum at E! Online)

Actor Owain Yeoman (The Mentalist and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) will appear in the pilot episode of the upcoming CBS drama Supergirl where he will play longtime DC Comics villain Vartox, an alien convict, who has been hiding on Earth for the past 12 years. After Supergirl’s emergence on Earth, Vartox seeks her out to ascertain her identity and do battle with her. (Nathalie Caron at Blastr)

Actor Dennis Haysbert (24) will guest-star in an upcoming episode of Blue Bloods, playing Chief Donald Kent, an old pal of Frank’s (series lead Tom Selleck). (Andy Swift at TV Line and AOL)

Actress Kelli Williams (The Practice and Army Wives) has been cast in the UP Channel’s first scripted series called Ties That Bind that will revolve around Allison (Williams), a tough and fearless police detective, who must arrest her younger brother for aggravated assault. Her world drastically changes when her brother is convicted and sent to prison. She then brings his two teenage children into her family’s home, joining her husband and her own teenage children. The series is scheduled to premiere this summer. (Denise Petski at Deadline)

Actresses Necar Zadegan (24, Emily Owens, M.D. and Girlfriends Guide to Divorce) and Lyndon Smith (Parenthood) have joined the cast of the CBS summer series Extant. Zadegan will recur as Shayna Velez, a former Lt. Colonel, now Chief of Staff to Tobias Shepherd (David Morrissey), the head of Global Security Commission (threat assessment center.). Meanwhile Smith will recur as JD Richter’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) estranged and rebellious daughter. (Denise Petski at Deadline)

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

Actress Ruth Negga (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) landed the female lead in the AMC drama pilot Preacher, which is based on the cult 1990’s comic about Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Negga), Jesse’s former and only true love, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)
