We are one month closer to the end of the 2014-2015 TV season. Where did the time go? This season has seemingly gone by so fast, don’t you think? Despite that there was plenty of programming options on the cable front for TV viewers to enjoy. Let’s take a look at how all of the cable dramas, made-for-TV movies, mini-series and/or event series fared in the ratings for the month of March.
First, here are the ratings for the cable dramas:
CABLE DRAMAS
MONDAYS:
Eye Candy – The new MTV thriller aired its final three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 2 – 579,000 viewers
March 9 – 525,000 viewers
March 16 – 541,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 548,000 viewers for March. MTV has yet to decide if Eye Candy will be given a second season.
The Fosters – The family drama aired its final four episodes from its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 2 – 1.2 million
March 9 – 1.1 million
March 16 – 1.3 million
March 23 – 1.4 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for March. The Fosters will return for its third season on ABC Family this summer.
Chasing Life – The ABC Family drama aired its final four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 2 – 733,000 viewers
March 9 – 635,000 viewers
March 16 – 694,000 viewers
March 23 – 934,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 749,000 viewers for March. Chasing Life will be back for its second season on ABC Family this summer.
Better Call Saul – The AMC prequel to Breaking Bad aired five new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 2 – 2.7 million
March 9 – 2.6 million
March 16 – 2.7 million
March 23 – 2.9 million
March 31 – 2.4 million
This averages out to 2.7 million viewers for March. A new episode of Better Call Saul will air on AMC on Monday, April 6 at 10 PM.
Bates Motel – The A&E series returned for its second season on March 9, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 9 – 2.1 million (Season Premiere)
March 16 – 1.9 million
March 23 – 1.9 million
March 31 – 1.7 million
This averages out to 1.9 million viewers for March. A new episode of Bates Motel will air on A&E on Monday, April 6 at 9 PM.
The Returned – This Americanized version of the French original debuted on A&E on March 9, airing four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 9 – 1.5 million (DEBUT)
March 16 – 1.1 million
March 23 – 1.1 million
March 31 – 1.1 million
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for March. A new episode of The Returned will air on A&E on Monday, April 6 at 10 PM.
TUESDAYS:
The Haves and Have Nots – The OWN soap opera aired four new episodes, including its mid-season finale, of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 3 – 2.9 million
March 10 – 3 million
March 17 – 3 million
March 24 – 3.5 million (Mid-Season Finale)
This averages out to 3.1 million viewers for March. The Haves and Have Nots will return for the rest of its third season on OWN later this year.
Pretty Little Liars – The long-running ABC Family soap opera aired the final four episodes of its fifth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 3 – 1.5 million
March 10 – 1.7 million
March 17 – 1.7 million
March 24 – 2.6 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.9 million viewers for March. Pretty Little Liars will be back on ABC Family for its sixth season later in 2015.
Switched at Birth – This ABC Family drama aired two new episodes of its fourth season, including the spring finale, during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 3 – 958,000 viewers
March 10 – 1.1 million (Spring Finale)
This averages out to 1 million viewers for March. Switched at Birth will return for the rest of its fourth season on ABC Family later in 2015.
Justified – The long-running FX series aired five new episodes of its sixth and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 3 – 1.7 million
March 10 – 1.8 million
March 17 – 1.8 million
March 24 – 1.7 million
March 31 – 2 million
This averages out to 1.8 million viewers for March. A new episode of Justified will air on FX on Tuesday, April 7 at 10 PM.
Being Mary Jane – The BET drama aired five new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 3 – 2.1 million
March 10 – 1.7 million
March 17 – 1.4 million
March 24 – 1.7 million
March 31 – 2 million
This averages out to 1.8 million viewers for March. A new episode of Being Mary Jane will air on BET on Tuesday, April 7 at 10 PM.
Rizzoli & Isles – The long-running TNT cop drama aired the final four episodes of its fifth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 3 – 3.5 million
March 10 – 3.1 million
March 17 – 3.4 million and 3.6 million (Two-Hour Season Finale)
This averages out to 3.4 million viewers for March. Rizzoli & Isles will be back for its sixth season on TNT later in 2015.
Perception – This TNT drama aired the final three episodes of its third and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 3 – 1.7 million
March 10 – 1.7 million
March 17 – 1.8 million (Series Finale)
This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for March.
WEDNESDAYS:
Hindsight – The new VH1 time-travel drama aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 4 – 277,000 viewers
March 11 – 249,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 263,000 viewers for March. Hindsight will return for a second season on VH1 later this year.
Suits – The USA Network legal drama aired the season finale of its fourth season on March 4, earning 1.6 million viewers. Suits will be back for its fifth season this summer on the USA Network.
The Americans – This FX spy drama aired four new episodes from its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 4 – 931,000 viewers
March 11 – 1.2 million
March 18 – 1.1 million
March 25 – 988,000 viewers
This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for March. A new episode of The Americans aired on FX on April 1 with the next new episode set to air on Wednesday, April 8 at 10 PM.
Broadchurch – The BBC America drama returned for its second season on March 4, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 4 – 403,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
March 11 – 387,000 viewers
March 18 – 337,000 viewers
March 25 – 228,000 viewers
This averages out to 339,000 viewers for March. A new episode of Broadchurch aired on BBC America on April 1 with the next new episode set to air on Wednesday, April 8 at 10 PM.
The DirecTV drama Full Circle: Chicago Payback aired its premiere episode on March 25, but ratings for that episode could not be tracked down. A new episode aired on DirecTV on April 1 with the next new episodes set to air on Wednesday, April 9 at 8 PM.
THURSDAYS:
Vikings – The History Channel period piece drama aired four new episodes from its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 5 – 2.4 million
March 12 – 2.6 million
March 19 – 2.6 million
March 26 – 2.4 million
This averages out to 2.5 million viewers for March. A new episode of Vikings aired on the History Channel on April 2 with the next new episode set to air on Thursday, April 9 at 10 PM.
Dig – The new USA Network drama premiered on March 5, airing four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 5 – 1.8 million (DEBUT)
March 12 – 1.4 million
March 19 – 1.4 million
March 26 – 1.3 million
This averages out to 1.5 million viewers for March. A new episode of Dig aired on the USA Network on April 2 with the next new episode set to air on Thursday, April 9 at 10 PM.
The new Pivot event series Fortitude aired four new episodes of its debut season during March, but ratings could not be tracked down for those episodes. A new episode aired on April 2 with the next new episode set to air on Thursday, April 9 at 10 PM.
FRIDAYS:
Banshee – The Cinemax drama aired the final two episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 6 – 564,000 viewers
March 13 – 692,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 628,000 viewers for March. Banshee will return for a fourth season on Cinemax later this year.
12 Monkeys – The new Syfy series aired four more new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those are as follows:
March 6 – 843,000 viewers
March 13 – 708,000 viewers
March 20 – 727,000 viewers
March 27 – 677,000 viewers
This averages out to 739,000 viewers for March. A new episode of 12 Monkeys aired on Syfy on April 3 with the season finale set to air on Friday, April 10 at 9 PM.
Helix – The Syfy thriller aired four more new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 6 – 522,000 viewers
March 13 – 547,000 viewers
March 20 – 570,000 viewers
March 27 – 519,000 viewers
This averages out to 540,000 viewers for March. A new episode of Helix aired on Syfy on April 3 with the season finale set to air on Friday, April 10 at 10 PM.
SATURDAYS:
Black Sails – The Starz drama aired the final four episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 7 – 632,000 viewers
March 14 – 743,000 viewers
March 21 – 653,000 viewers
March 28 – 668,000 (Season Finale)
This averages out to 674,000 viewers for March. Black Sails will be back for a third season on Starz later in 2015.
The Musketeers – The BBC America period piece drama aired the final three episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 7 – 210,000 viewers
March 14 – 228,000 viewers
March 21 – 251,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 230,000 viewers for March. The Musketeers will be back on BBC America for a third season.
Good Witch – The Hallmark Channel series aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 7 – 2 million
March 14 – 2 million
March 21 – 1.9 million
March 28 – 2.2 million
This averages out to 2 million for March. Good Witch will air a new episode on the Hallmark Channel tonight, April 4 with the next new episode set to air on Saturday, April 11 at 8 PM.
SUNDAYS:
The Walking Dead – The zombie-filled AMC drama aired the final five episodes of its fifth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 1 – 14.4 million
March 8 – 14.5 million
March 15 – 13.8 million
March 22 – 13.8 million
March 29 – 15.8 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 14.4 million viewers for March. The Walking Dead has been renewed for a sixth season by AMC.
The Royals – The first scripted drama on E! premiered on March 15, airing three episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 15 – 1.4 million (DEBUT)
March 22 – 1.3 million
March 29 – 825,000 viewers
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for March. A new episode of The Royals will air on Sunday, April 5 on E! at 10 PM.
The two-hour Christmas episode of Downton Abbey aired on PBS on March 1, but ratings could not be tracked down.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES
There were only a little over a handful of made-for-TV movies and/or mini-series that aired on the cable networks during March. Here is a list of those for which ratings could be found:
