Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in May:
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Opens: May 1
When Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program, things go terribly awry, forcing him, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the rest of the Avengers to reassemble. As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, the team is put to the ultimate test as they battle Ultron (James Spader), a technological terror hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they encounter two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. The cast includes Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Anthony Mackie, Hayley Atwell, Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgard and Samuel L. Jackson.
Far from the Madding Crowd
Opens: May 1
A headstrong Victorian beauty (Carey Mulligan) has her choice of three different suitors: a sheep farmer (Matthias Schoenaerts), a dashing soldier (Tom Sturridge) and a prosperous, older bachelor (Michael Sheen). Juno Temple co-stars.
Mad Max: Fury Road
Opens: May 15
Though determined to wander the post-apocalyptic wasteland alone, Mad Max (Tom Hardy) joins Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a fugitive imperator, and her band who are all trying to escape a savage warlord. The cast also includes Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoe Kravitz and Riley Keough.
Pitch Perfect 2
Opens: May 15
The Barden Bellas return and are determined to enter a worldwide competition that an American group has never won in order to regain their status and right to perform. After an exposure mishap with Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) and the President, the Bellas are more determined than ever to prove that a ragtag bunch of American girls can ‘run the world. The film stars Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Brittany Snow, Adam DeVine, Anna Camp, Hailee Steinfeld, Katey Sagal, Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins.
Slow West
Opens: May 15
A bounty hunter (Michael Fassbender) keeps his true motive a secret from the naive Scottish teenager (Kodi Smit-McPhee) he’s offered to serve as bodyguard and guide while the youth searches for his beloved in 1800s Colorado.
Tomorrowland
Opens: May 22
A former boy-genius (George Clooney) and a gifted teenager (Britt Robertson) set out on a dangerous mission to unearth the secrets of “Tomorrowland,” an enigmatic location caught between time and space.
Aloha
Opens: May 29
A celebrated military contractor returns to the site of his greatest career triumphs and re-connects with a long-ago love while unexpectedly falling for the hard-charging Air Force watchdog assigned to him. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Bill Murray, Jay Baruchel, John Krasinski, Alec Baldwin and Danny McBride.
San Andreas
Opens: May 29
In the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescue-chopper pilot makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter. The cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Alexandra Daddario, Colton Haynes, Carla Gugino, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Paul Giamatti and Will Yun Lee.
