Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in January:
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

On the evening of September 11, 2012, the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a group of militants attack the American diplomatic compound and a nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya. CIA security contractors – military veterans who served with the Navy SEALS, Marine Corps and Army Special Forces – undertake a desperate defense of the American Ambassador and his staff within the diplomatic compound. The cast includes James Badge Dale, John Krasinski, Max Martini, Toby Stephens, Pablo Schreiber, David Denman, Freddie Stroma and David Costabile.
Norm of the North
Opens: January 15
This animated film is about a polar bear named Norm (voiced by Rob Schneider) and his three lemming friends who are displaced from their Arctic home, winding up in New York City. There, Norm becomes the mascot of a corporation and he soon learns the corporation is tied to the fate of his homeland. Other voices to be featured in the film are Heather Graham, Ken Jeong, Colm Meaney, Loretta Devine, Gabriel Iglesias and Bill Nighy.
The Benefactor
Opens: January 15
A philanthropist meddles in the lives of newly-married couples in an attempt to relive his past. The film stars Richard Gere, Dakota Fanning, Theo James and Clarke Peters.
Exposed
Opens: January 22
After witnessing a miracle, a young Latina woman (Ana de Armas) experiences strange things as a police detective searches for the truth behind his partner’s death. The cast includes Keanu Reeves and Mira Sorvino.
The 5th Wave
Opens: January 22
Four waves of increasingly deadly alien attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie Sullivan Chloe Grace Moretz), is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother, Sammy. As she prepares for the fifth wave, Cassie teams up with a young man Evan, who may become her final hope – if she can only trust him. The cast includes Ron Livingston, Maria Bello, Live Schreiber, Maggie Siff, Nick Robinson, Maika Monroe and Alex Roe.
Jane Got a Gun
Opens: January 29
Jane Hammond (Natalie Portman) has built a new life with her husband Bill “Ham” Hammond (Noah Emmerich) after being tormented by the Bishop Boys gang. She finds herself in the gang’s crosshairs once again when Ham stumbles home riddled with bullets after dueling with the Boys and their relentless leader, Colin (Ewan McGregor). With the vengeful crew hot on Ham’s trail, Jane has nowhere to turn but to her former fiancé Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) for help in defending her family against certain death. Haunted by old memories, Jane’s past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival. The cast includes Rodrigo Santoro and Boyd Holbrook.
Kung Fu Panda 3

Po reunites with his biological father and travels with him to a secret sanctuary of pandas where, to his surprise, he does not fit in. There he meets Mei Mei, an overly eager panda, who had been promised to Po through an arranged marriage when they were children. To make matters worse, an evil ancient spirit called Kai begins terrorizing China and stealing the powers of defeated kung fu masters. Now, in the face of incredible odds, Po must learn to train a village of clumsy, fun-loving pandas to become a band of Kung Fu Pandas. Voices will be provided by Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu, Bryan Cranston, J. K. Simmons, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogan, David Cross and Kate Hudson.
The Finest Hours
Opens: January 29
The rescue mission took place in 1952 off the Cape Cod coast after two oil tankers, SS Fort Mercer and SS Pendleton, were destroyed by treacherous winter winds and waves. The crew of motor life boat CG 36500 and the crew of a surfboat from the USCGC Yakutat heroically rescued nearly all the tankers’ crewmen. The film stars Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Holliday Grainger, Eric Bana, Kyle Gallner, Graham McTavish, Michael Raymond-James, Ben Foster and Rachel Brosnahan.
