TV Ratings

It was a full night of programming on the major networks last night with all of the networks airing new episodes of their Wednesday night dramas.

Here is how all those Wednesday night dramas fared in the overall ratings:

While March is nearly at an end it’s past time to look back at all of the February cable dramas, made-for-TV movies and mini-series that aired during the month. Let’s start with the cable dramas:

CABLE DRAMAS

MONDAYS:

Hit the Floor – The VH1 series aired four new episodes from its current, third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 1 – 1.4 million
February 8 – 1.2 million
February 15 – No episode aired
February 22 – 1.4 million
February 29 – 1.2 million

This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for February. Three new episodes of Hit the Floor aired so far in March with the next new episode set to air on VH1 on Monday, March 28 at 10 PM.

The Fosters – The FreeForm family drama aired five new episodes of its current, third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 1 – 789,000 viewers
February 8 – 837,000 viewers
February 15 – 814,000 viewers
February 22 – 788,000 viewers
February 29 – 673,000 viewers

This averages out to 780,000 viewers for February. Three new episodes of The Fosters aired so far in March with the spring finale set to air on FreeForm on Monday, March 28 at 8 PM.

Recovery Road – The new FreeForm drama aired five new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 1 – 441,000 viewers
February 8 – 446,000 viewers
February 15 – 488,000 viewers
February 22 – 464,000 viewers
February 29 – 449,000 viewers

This averages out to 458,000 viewers for February. Three new episodes of Recovery Road aired so far in March with the spring finale set to air on FreeForm on Monday, March 28 at 9 PM.

War and Peace – The 4-part mini-series that simultaneously aired on the History Channel, A&E and Lifetime aired the final two episodes during the beginning of the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 1 – 628,000 viewers
February 8 – 663,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 646,000 viewers for February.

The Magicians – The new Syfy drama aired five episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 1 – 901,000 viewers
February 8 – 745,000 viewers
February 15 – 748,000 viewers
February 22 – 647,000 viewers
February 29 – 702,000 viewers

This averages out to 749,000 viewers for February. Three new episodes of The Magicians aired so far in March with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Monday, March 28 at 9 PM.

Lost Girl – The Canadian series that has aired on Syfy for all of its five seasons returned for the start of its very last 8 episodes on February 1, airing five episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 1 – 458,000 viewers
February 8 – 411,000 viewers
February 15 – 452,000 viewers
February 22 – 320,000 viewers
February 29 – 384,000 viewers

This averages out to 405,000 viewers for February. The final three episodes of Lost Girl aired in March and those ratings will be included in next month’s report.

Bitten – The Canadian series premiered its third season on Syfy starting on February 15, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 15 – 452,000 viewers
February 22 – 320,000 viewers
February 29 – 384,000 viewers

This averages out to 385,000 viewers for February. Three new episodes of Bitten aired so far in March with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Monday, March 28 at 11 PM.

Major Crimes – The final five episodes of the fourth season of the TNT police drama returned on February 15, airing three episodes during the month as well as the final two episodes in March. The ratings are as follows:

February 15 – 3.1 million (Mid-Season Return)
February 22 – 3.2 million
February 29 – 2.9 million
March 7 – 3.5 million
March 14 – 3.4 million (Season Finale)

This averages out to 3.2 million viewers for the above timeframe. Major Crimes will return for a new season on TNT sometime this summer.

Better Call Saul – The AMC series premiered its current, second season starting on February 15, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings are as follows:

February 15 – 2.6 million
February 22 – 2.2 million
February 29 – 2.2 million

This averages out to 2.3 million viewers for February. Three new episodes of Better Call Saul aired so far in March with the next new episode set to air on AMC on Monday, March 28 at 10 PM.

TUESDAYS:

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – The Bravo drama aired the final four episodes of its current, second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 2 – 698,000 viewers
February 9 – 648,000 viewers
February 16 – 645,000 viewers
February 23 – No ratings could be found (Season Finale)

This averages out to approximately 664,000 viewers for February. Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce has yet to be renewed for a third season by Bravo.

The Haves and the Have Nots – The OWN soap opera aired four new episodes of its current, second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 2 – 2.9 million
February 9 – 2.8 million
February 16 – 3 million
February 23 – 3.1 million

This averages out to 3 million viewers for February. Three new episodes, including the season finale of The Haves and Have Nots aired during March and those numbers will be included in next month’s report. OWN has yet to announce if the show will return for a third season.

Teen Wolf – The MTV thriller aired four more new episodes of its current, fifth season during February and its final two episodes aired in March. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 2 – 971,000 viewers
February 9 – 883,000 viewers
February 16 – 974,000 viewers
February 23 – 760,000 viewers
March 1 – 905,000 viewers
March 8 – 800,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 882,000 viewers for the timeframe. Teen Wolf will return to MTV for a sixth season at an as yet announced date.

The Shannara Chronicles – The new MTV fantasy drama aired four new episodes during the month and the season finale at the very beginning of March. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 2 – 969,000 viewers
February 9 – 801,000 viewers
February 16 – 778,000 viewers
February 23 – 723,000 viewers
March 1 – 854,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 825,000 viewers for the timeframe. MTV has yet to renew The Shannara Chronicles for a second season.

Pretty Little Liars – The long-running Freeform soap opera aired four more episodes of its current, sixth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 2 – 1.4 million
February 9 – 1.2 million
February 16 – 1.4 million
February 23 – 1.3 million

This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for February. The finale three episodes of Pretty Little Liars aired in March and those numbers will be included in next month’s report. The show is expected to return to FreeForm for its seventh and final season on FreeForm sometime this summer.

Shadowhunters – The new Freeform fantasy series aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 2 – 960,000 viewers
February 9 – 947,000 viewers
February 16 – 976,000 viewers
February 23 – 841,000 viewers

This averages out to 931,000 viewers for February. Three new episodes of Shadowhunters aired so far in March with the next new episode set to air on FreeForm on Tuesday, March 22 at 9 PM.

Outsiders – The WGN America series aired four more new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings are as follows:

February 2 – 840,000 viewers
February 9 – 881,000 viewers
February 16 – 801,000 viewers
February 23 – 764,000 viewers

This average out 822,000 viewers during February. Three new episodes of Outsiders airing so far in March with the next new episode set to air on WGN America on Tuesday, March 22 at 9 PM.

Rizzoli and Isles – The long-running TNT police drama returned with two back-to-back new episodes of its current, sixth season on February 16, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 16 – 2.3 million (Mid-Season Return Part 1)
February 16 – 2.6 million (Mid-Season Return Part 2)
February 23 – 2.4 million

This averages out to 2.4 million for February. The final three episodes of the sixth season aired during March and those numbers will be included in next month’s report. Rizzoli and Isles will return to TNT for its final season later this year.

WEDNESDAYS:

Suits – The long-running USA Network legal drama aired the final five episodes of its current, fifth season during the month and into the beginning of March. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 3 – 1.5 million
February 10 – 1.7 million
February 17 – 1.6 million
February 24 – 1.7 million
March 2 – 1.7 million (Season Finale)

This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for that timeframe. Suits will be back with a new season on the USA Network later this year.

THURSDAYS:

Colony – The new USA Network futuristic series aired four more new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 4 – 1.2 million
February 11 – 1.1 million
February 18 – 946,000 viewers
February 25 – 1 million

This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for February. The final three episodes of Colony aired in March and those numbers will be included in next month’s report. Colony will be back for a second season on the USA Network.

London Spy – The final 3 parts of the 5-part BBC America mini-series aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 4 – 110,000 viewers
February 11 – 72,000 viewers
February 18 – 96,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 93,000 viewers for the month.

Vikings – The fourth season of the History Channel period drama premiered on February 18, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 18 – 2.4 million (Season Premiere)
February 25 – 2 million

This averages out to 2.2 million viewers for February. Three new episodes of Vikings have aired so far in March with the next new episode set to air on the History Channel on Thursday, March 24 at 10 PM.

SATURDAYS:

Black Sails – The Starz pirate-themed drama aired four more new episodes of its current, third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 6 – 501,000 viewers
February 13 – 640,000 viewers
February 20 – 679,000 viewers
February 27 – 603,000 viewers

This averages out to 606,000 viewers for February. Three episodes have aired so far in March with the season finale of Black Sails set to air on Starz on Saturday, March 26 at 9 PM.

Beowulf – The new Esquire Network period piece drama aired four more new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 6 – 177,000 viewers
February 13 – 166,000 viewers
February 20 – 189,000 viewers
February 27 – No numbers could be tracked down

This averages to an approximate 177,000 viewers for February. Three new episodes have aired so far in March with the next new episode of Beowulf set to air on Esquire on Saturday, March 26 at 10 PM.

SUNDAYS:

Billions – The new Showtime drama aired three new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 7 – 851,000 viewers
February 14 – 1 million
February 21 – 1.2 million
February 28 – No episode aired

This averages out to 1 million viewers for February. Three new episodes have aired so far in March with the next new episode of Billions set to air on Showtime on Sunday, March 27 at 10 PM.

Vinyl – The new 1970’s themed HBO series debuted on February 14, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 14 – 764,000 viewers (DEBUT)
February 21 – 667,000 viewers
February 28 – 533,000 viewers

This averages out to 655,000 viewers for February. Three new episodes have aired so far in March with the next new episodes of Vinyl set to air on HBO on Sunday, March 27 at 10 PM.

The Walking Dead – The AMC zombiefest returned for the rest of its current, sixth season on February 14, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 14 – 13.7 million (Mid-Season Premiere)
February 21 – 13.5 million
February 28 – 12.8 million

This averages out to 13.3 million viewers for February. Three new episodes have aired so far in March with the next new episode of The Walking Dead set to air on AMC on Sunday, March 27 at 10 PM.

When Calls the Heart – The beloved Hallmark Channel series officially returned for the start of its current, third season on February 21, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

February 21 – 1.7 million (Season Premiere)
February 28 – 1.7 million

This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for February. Three new episodes have aired so far in March with the next new episode of When Calls the Heart set to air on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, March 27 at 9 PM.

Downton Abbey – The final season of the international hit series aired the final three episodes of the season on PBS during February, but ratings could not be tracked down for those episodes. The official series finale aired on March 6, earning 9.6 million viewers.

Mercy Street – The new PBS mini-series aired its final three episodes during the month, but ratings could not be tracked down for those episodes. Mercy Street will return for a second season on PBS most likely sometime next year.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES

While there weren’t as many made-for-TV movies and mini-series airing in February as there were in the past few months, there were about a dozen that aired during February. The following are the movies and mini-series where ratings could be found:

Madoff [2-Part] (ABC) – 6.9 million (average)
The People Vs. OJ Simpson [10-part] (FX) – 3.8 million (average)
Valentine Ever After (Hallmark Channel) – 2.5 million
Appetite for Love (Hallmark Channel) – 2.4 million
Anything for Love (Hallmark Channel) – 2.2 million
Suicide Note (Lifetime) – 1.4 million
Manson’s Lost Girls (Lifetime) – 1.3 million
Pregnant at 17 (Lifetime) – 1.2 million
Wrong Swipe (Lifetime) – 1 million
Signed Sealed Delivered: From the Heart (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 807,000 viewers

There were also these two made-for-TV movies for which ratings could not be tracked down for February:

Heartfelt (ION)
Love Finds You in Valentine (UP Channel)

Ratings results for the cable dramas, the mini-series and the made-for-TV movies that have and will air in March that can be tracked down will be provided as soon as possible in April.

TV Ratings

It was a fairly normal night of programming on the major networks last night with the exception of the new ABC drama Of Kings and Prophets being pulled after only two episodes, the sneak peek debut of a new NBC drama and two Tuesday night NBC dramas not airing.

Here is how the Tuesday night dramas, that aired new episodes, fared in the overall ratings:

TV Ratings

It was a pretty normal night of programming on the major networks where the Sunday night dramas are concerned as well as FOX airing The Passion, a special 2-hour live event that was fitting since it was Palm Sunday.

Here is how all the Sunday night dramas and the FOX special fared in the overall ratings:

8 PM Shows:
Madam Secretary (CBS) [NEW] – 9.3 million (delayed because of basketball)
The Passion (FOX) [DEBUT – 2-Hour Special Live Event] – 6.6 million (average)

Here is the list of the programming options to expect on TV this coming week:

On March 22, a special preview of the new series Heartbeat will air on NBC at 9 PM, starring Melissa George (Grey’s Anatomy and The Slap) as world-renowned heart transplant surgeon Dr. Alex Panttiere.

Also on March 22, Stitchers will return for its second season of Freeform (the new home of ABC Family) at 10 PM; and that same night, The Flash and iZombie will be back with new episodes on The CW at 8 and 9 PM respectively.

Heartbeat will move to its regular time slot on ABC on March 23 at 8 PM and that same night Arrow and Supernatural will be back with new episodes at 8 and 9 PM respectively on The CW.

On March 24, the new ABC drama The Catch will debut at 10 PM, starring Mireille Enos (The Killing) as Alice Vaughan, LA’s top private investigator, but when her fiancé (Peter Krause from Parenthood) cons her out of millions and disappears, Alice goes on a private mission for payback.

And March 27, the 6-part second season of Grantchester will premiere on PBS at 9 PM followed by the premiere of the final 9-episode season of Mr. Selfridge at 10 PM

Here are the news items for the past month:

RENEWALS/CANCELLATIONS

Vikings received a fifth season renewal from the History Channel. (Variety)

Of Kings and Prophets has been pulled from the ABC line-up after only two episodes. The network has also given renewals to the following dramas: Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Once Upon a Time, Scandal and Quantico. Meanwhile, the fates of Agent Carter, Castle and Nashville are uncertain. (Variety)

Gotham has been given a third season renewal by FOX, and Bones has been renewed for its 12th and final season on the network. (Variety)

Person of Interest will officially end after its upcoming fifth season on CBS; and NCIS has been renewed for two more seasons by the network. (Variety)

Better Call Saul has been given a season three renewal by AMC, and the network has also given a season renewal order to the drama Into the Badlands. (Variety)

PBS has given a second season order to Mercy Street. (The Futon Critic)

FreeForm has given a second season order to Shadowhunters; and the network also announced that Switched at Birth will end after its upcoming fifth season. (The Wrap and TV Line)

Royal Pains will end after its upcoming eighth season on the USA Network; and Satisfaction has been cancelled by the network after two seasons. (Variety and The Futon Critic)

WGN America has given their new drama Outsiders a second season renewal. (Variety)

Fuller House has been given a second season order by Netflix. (Variety)

The CW made an unprecedented announcement that all of their dramas – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, The Flash, iZombi, Arrow, Supernatural, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The 100, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Reign – have been renewed for a new season. (Variety)

CASTING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Actor Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) has landed the lead role in the upcoming Netflix superhero series Iron Fist that focuses on Daniel “Danny” Rand, a handsome, sophisticated and independent loner who returns to New York City after being missing for years to fight against the criminal element corrupting the city with his incredible kung-fu mastery and the ability to summon the power of the fiery Iron Fist. Actress Michelle Hurd (Daredevil and The Glades) has joined the cast of Ash Vs. Evil Dead on Starz, playing the high school sweetheart of the Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell). (Denise Petski at Deadline)

Actress Nadine Velazquez (Flight and Ride Along 2) will star alongside Barry Sloane (Revenge and The Whispers) in the 8-part History Channel military action series Six that follows a brotherhood of modern American warriors, Navy SEAL Team Six, whose 2014 mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan goes awry when they uncover a U.S. citizen working with the terrorists. Velazquez will play Jackie, a strong military wife whose husband Ricky is considering retirement from the SEAL Team Six but is called upon for one last mission. (Denise Petski at Deadline)

Actress Allison Miller (Kings and Go On) has landed one of the lead roles in the upcoming Syfy 13-episode futuristic thriller Incorporated that is set in a near future where corporations have unlimited power. The series will center on Ben Larson (Sean Teale from Reign), a young executive who conceals his true identity to infiltrate a very dangerous corporate world to save the woman he loves. But he’ll soon learn that he’s not the only one whose secrets might have deadly consequences. Miller will play Ben’s very well-connected wife Laura. (Nellie Andreeva at Deadline)
