Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July Everyone!

I wanted to take the time to wish all of the readers here at Rueben’s Ramblings a very Happy Fourth of July.

No matter how you celebrate Independence Day – having a BBQ or picnic, watching marathons on TV, going shopping, eating out, seeing a movie – please be safe and have a terrific, day!

Summer TV is in full swing with lots and lots of one-hour dramas, made-for-TV movies, limited series and mini-series to watch all over the TV landscape. Here is how all of those viewing options performed in June:

CABLE DRAMAS

MONDAYS:

Hunters – The new alien-themed thriller aired four more new episodes of its debut season on Syfy during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 6 – 245,000 viewers
June 13 – 288,000 viewers
June 20 – 273,000 viewers
June 27 – 208,000 viewers

This averages out to 254,000 for June. The season finale of Hunters will air on Syfy on Monday, July 11 at 12 Midnight.

12 Monkeys – The time-travel apocalyptic-themed series aired four more new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 6 – 425,000 viewers
June 13 – 349,000 viewers
June 20 – 389,000 viewers
June 27 – 398,000 viewers

This averages out to 390,000 viewers for June. The penultimate episode of 12 Monkeys will air on Syfy on Monday, July 11 at 9 PM.

Turn: Washington’s Spies – The AMC period piece drama aired the final four episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 6 – 599,000 viewers
June 13 – 572,000 viewers
June 20 – 614,000 viewers
June 27 – 665,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 613,000 viewers for June. AMC has yet to renew Turn: Washington’s Spies for a new season.

Scream: The TV Series – The MTV series, based on the franchise film of the same name, aired four new episodes of its second season during the month; the first three on Monday nights before shifting to its new night and time. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 6 – 496,000 viewers
June 13 – 348,000 viewers
June 20 – 271,000 viewers
June 28 – 446,000 viewers (New Night and Time)

This averages out to 390,000 viewers for June. The next new episode of Scream: The TV Series will air on MTV on Tuesday, July 5 at 10 PM.

Devious Maids – The fourth season of the Lifetime dramedy returned on June 6, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 6 – 1.1 million (Season Premiere)
June 13 – 1.1 million
June 20 – 816,000 viewers
June 27 – 958,000 viewers

This averages out to 994,000 viewers for June. The next new episode of Devious Maids will air on Lifetime on Monday, July 4 at 9 PM.

UnReal – The Lifetime reality-show-themed drama returned for its second season on June 6, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 6 – 497,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
June 13 – 520,000 viewers
June 20 – 478,000 viewers
June 27 – 534,000 viewers

This averages out to 507,000 viewers for June. The next new episode of UnReal will air on Lifetime on Monday, July 4 at 10 PM.

Rizzoli & Isles – The seventh and final season of the long-running TNT police drama returned on June 6, airing five episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 6 – 3.9 million (Season Premiere – Episode 1)
June 6 – 3.6 million (Season Premiere – Episode 2)
June 13 – 4 million
June 20 – 4.1 million
June 27 – 4.4 million

This averages out to 4 million viewers for June. The next new episode of Rizzoli & Isles will air on TNT on Monday, July 11 at 9 PM.

Major Crimes – The fifth season of the TNT drama returned on June 13, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 13 – 3.6 million (Season Premiere)
June 20 – 3.7 million
June 27 – 4 million

This averages out to 3.8 million viewers for June. The next new episode of Major Crimes will air on TNT on Monday, July 11 at 10 PM.

Guilt – The ripped-from-the-headlines Freeform drama debuted on June 13, airing three episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 13 – 486,000 viewers (DEBUT)
June 20 – 328,000 viewers
June 27 – 329,000 viewers

This averages out to 381,000 viewers for June. The next new episode of Guilt will air on Freeform on Monday, July 11 at 9 PM.

The Fosters – The Freeform family drama returned for its fourth season on June 20, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 20 – 907,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
June 27 – 1 million

This averages out to 954,000 viewers for June. The next new episode of The Fosters will air on Freeform on Monday, July 11 at 8 PM.

TUESDAYS:

Feed the Beast – The new AMC drama debuted on Sunday, June 5, then moved to its regular Tuesday line-up on June 7, airing five episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 5 – 976,000 viewers (DEBUT)
June 7 – 398,000 viewers
June 14 – 484,000 viewers
June 21 – 389,000 viewers
June 28 – 299,000 viewers

This averages out to 509,000 viewers for June. The next new episode of Feed the Beast will air on AMC on Tuesday, July 5 at 10 PM.

Animal Kingdom – The new TNT drama, based on the Australian film of the same name, debuted on June 14, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 14 – 1.3 million (DEBUT – Episode 1)
June 14 – 1.1 million (DEBUT – Episode 2)
June 21 – 1.2 million
June 28 – 1.2 million

This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for June. The next new episode of Animal Kingdom will air on TNT on Tuesday, July 5 at 9 PM.

Pretty Little Liars – The 7th and final season of the long-running Freeform (formerly ABC Family) series premiered on June 21, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 21 – 1.4 million (Season Premiere)
June 28 – 1.2 million

This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for June. The next new episode of Pretty Little Liars will air on Freeform on Tuesday, July 5 at 8 PM.

Dead of Summer – The 1980’s-based new Freeform thriller debuted on June 28, earning 628,000 viewers. The next new episode will air on Tuesday, July 5 at 9 PM.

WEDNESDAYS:

The Americans – The Russian spy drama aired the final two episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 1 – 929,000 viewers
June 8 – 768,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 849,000 viewers for June. The Americans was renewed for two more seasons – its fifth and sixth – which will be the show’s final season. An official airdate has yet to be announced by FX for the start of its fifth season.

Royal Pains – The 8th and final season of the USA Network series aired five more episodes, including not only its 100th episode but also its musical penultimate episode during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 1 – 1.3 million
June 8 – 1.2 million (100th Episode)
June 15 – 1.4 million
June 22 – 1.4 million
June 29 – 1.3 million (Musical/Penultimate Episode)

This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for May. The series finale of Royal Pains will air on USA Network on Wednesday, July 6 at 10 PM.

Cleverman – This Australian series debuted on SundanceTV on June 1, airing five episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 1 – 197,000 viewers (DEBUT)
June 8 – 140,000 viewers
June 15 – 158,000 viewers
June 22 – 123,000 viewers
June 29 – 146,000 viewers

This averages out to 153,000 viewers for June. The next new episode of Cleverman will air on SundanceTV on Wednesday, July 6 at 10 PM.

Greenleaf – The new original 13-episode drama from OWN about a Memphis megachurch had a two-night debut on June 21 and June 22, moving to its regular night on Wednesdays the following week. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 21 – 3 million (DEBUT – Night One)
June 22 – 2 million (DEBUT – Night Two)
June 28 – 1.9 million

This averages out to 2.3 million viewers for June. The next new episode of Greenleaf will air on OWN on Wednesday, July 6 at 10 PM.

Kingdom – The second season of the DirecTV series premiered on June 1, airing five episodes during the month. Unfortunately, ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down.

THURSDAYS:

Orphan Black – The BBC America series aired the final three episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 2 – 245,000 viewers
June 9 – 291,000 viewers
June 16 – 325,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 287,000 viewers for June. Orphan Black has been renewed for its fifth and final season by BBC America, but an official airdate has yet to be announced.

Queen of the South – The gritty new USA Network series debuted on June 23, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 23 – 1.4 million (DEBUT)
June 30 – 1.4 million

This averages out to 1.4 million viewers for June. The next new episode of Queen of the South will air on the USA Network on Thursday, July 7 at 10 PM.

FRIDAYS:

Wynonna Earp – The new supernatural-laced Syfy series aired the final four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 3 – 539,000 viewers
June 10 – 519,000 viewers
June 17 – 530,000 viewers
June 24 – 447,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 509,000 viewers for June. Wynonna Earp has yet to receive a second season renewal from Syfy.

Outcast – The Cinemax thriller debuted on June 3, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 3 – 152,000 viewers (DEBUT)
June 10 – 193,000 viewers
June 17 – 170,000 viewers
June 24 – 249,000 viewers

This averages out to 191,000 viewers for June. The next new episode of Outcast is expected to air on Cinemax on Friday, July 8 at 10 PM.

SATURDAYS:

Outlander – The Starz period piece drama aired four more new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 4 – 938,000 viewers
June 11 – 819,000 viewers
June 18 – 864,000 viewers
June 25 – 1 million

This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for June. The 90-minute season finale of Outlander will air on Starz on Saturday, July 9 at 9 PM.

Hell on Wheels – The fifth and final season of the AMC western drama premiered on June 11, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 11 – 1.8 million (Season Premiere)
June 18 – 1.5 million
June 25 – 1.5 million

This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for June. A new episodes of Hell on Wheels aired on July 2 with the next new episode set to air on AMC on Saturday, July 9 at 9 PM.

SUNDAYS:

Motive – The Canadian police procedural aired the final four episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 5 – 863,000 viewers
June 12 – 887,000 viewers
June 19 – 737,000 viewers
June 26 – 764,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 813,000 viewers for June. The season premiere of the fourth season of Motive aired on July 3 with the next new episode of Motive set to air on the USA Network on Sunday, July 10 at 10 PM.

Good Witch – The family friendly Hallmark Channel series aired final three episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 5 – 2.2 million
June 12 – 2.1 million
June 19 – 2.3 million (Season Finale)

This averages out to 2.2 million viewers for June. Good Witch has been given a third season order by the Hallmark Channel, but an official airdate has yet to be announced.

Game of Thrones – The epic HBO drama aired the final four episodes of its sixth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 5 – 7.8 million
June 12 – 7.6 million
June 19 – 7.7 million
June 26 – 8.9 million (Season Finale)

This averages out to 8 million viewers for June. Game of Thrones has been renewed for another season by HBO, but an official airdate will be announced at a later time.

Penny Dreadful – The Showtime thriller aired the final three episodes of its third and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 5 – 722,000 viewers
June 12 – 651,000 viewers
June 19 – 551,000 viewers (Series Finale)

This averages out to 641,000 viewers for June. Penny Dreadful was cancelled by Showtime.

Preacher – The new AMC series based on the graphic novel aired four more new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 5 – 2.1 million
June 12 – 1.8 million
June 19 – 1.1 million
June 26 – 1.4 million

This average out to 1.6 million viewers for June. A new episode of Preacher aired on July 3 with the next new episode set to air on AMC on Sunday, July 10 at 9 PM.

The Last Ship – The third season premiere of the post-apocalyptic TNT drama was delayed for one week (due to storyline content hitting a little too close to fact), airing two-hours on June 19 and a new episode on June 26. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

June 19 – 1.8 million (Season Premiere – Episode 1)
June 19 – 1.8 million (Season Premiere – Episode 2)
June 26 – 2.4 million

This averages out to 2 million viewers for June. A new episode of The Last Ship aired on June 3 with the next new episode set to air on TNT on Sunday, July 10 at 9 PM.

Murder in the First – Because of the postponement of The Last Ship, the TNT police procedural was also delayed, airing its third season premiere on June 26, earning 1.4 million viewers. A new episode of Murder in the First aired on June 3 with the next new episode set to air on TNT on Sunday, July 10 at 10 PM.

Ray Donovan – The fourth season of the Showtime series about an LA fixer premiered on June 26, earning 1.1 million viewers. A new episode of Ray Donovan aired on June 3 with the next new episode set to air on Showtime on Sunday, July 10 at 9 PM.

Roadies – The new Showtime drama from Cameron Crowe about the lives of backstage workers [aka Roadies] debuted on June 26, earning 348,000 viewers. A new episode of Roadies aired on June 3 with the next new episode set to air on Showtime on Sunday, July 10 at 10 PM.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES

There were nearly 20 made-for-TV movies that aired during June for which ratings could be tracked down:

Stop the Wedding (Hallmark) – 2.3 million

It was another night of mostly repeats and reality on the major networks last night, but there were two Thursday night summer shows that did air new episodes.
