Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in October:
Blinky Bill
Opens: October 7
In this animated film a mischievous young Koala Bear named Blinky Bill (Ryan Kwanten from True Blood) embarks on a journey through the Australian Outback to find his missing father. He is joined by another Koala Bear named Nutsy (Robin McLeavy from Hell on Wheels) and a frill-necked Lizard (David Wenham from The Lord of the Rings franchise). Other voices will be provided by Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle) and Toni Collette (United States of Tara.
Blue Jay
Opens: October 7
Two high school sweethearts reconnect when both return to their hometown. The cast includes new Emmy Award winner Sarah Paulson and Mark Duplass (The Mindy Project and Togetherness).
The Girl on the Train
Opens: October 7
Divorcee Rachel Watson (Emily Blunt takes the train to work every day and spends her commute fantasizing about a young couple living down the street from her ex-husband. One morning, she sees something shocking and finds herself entangled in a mystery that promises to forever alter the lives of everyone involved. The cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez, Lisa Kudrow and Laura Prepon.
Certain Women
Opens: October 14
Certain Women explores a handful of intersecting lives across Montana, focusing on a lawyer (Laura Dern), who tries to defuse a hostage situation and calm her disgruntled client (Jared Harris), who feels slighted by a workers’ compensation settlement; a married couple (Michelle Williams and James Le Gros), who break ground on a new home, but exposes marital fissures when they try to persuade an elderly man to sell his stockpile of sandstone; and a ranch hand (Lily Gladstone), who forms an attachment to a young lawyer (Kristen Stewart), who inadvertently finds herself teaching a twice-weekly adult education class, four hours from her home.
Max Steel
Opens: October 14
Max Steel is an in-depth “origin” story, chronicling the adventures of teenage Max McGrath (Ben Winchell from Finding Carter) and alien companion Steel, who must harness and combine their tremendous new powers to evolve into the turbo-charged superhero Max Steel. As these two unlikely friends struggle to accept their oddly connected fates, they begin to uncover unimaginable secrets, working together to find the truth, and fighting the mysterious forces threatening their world. The cast includes Andy Garcia (Ballers) and Maria Bello (The 5th Wave).
The Accountant
Opens: October 14
Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a mathematics savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Using a small-town CPA office as a cover, he makes his living as a forensic accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. With a Treasury agent (J.K. Simmons from Major Crimes and Whiplash) hot on his heels, Christian takes on a state-of-the-art robotics company as a legitimate client. As Wolff gets closer to the truth about a discrepancy that involves millions of dollars, the body count starts to rise. The film also stars Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect), Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead and Daredevil), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Arrow and Spartacus: War of the Damned), Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent) and John Lithgow.
In a Valley of Violence
Opens: October 21
A mysterious drifter, Paul (Ethan Hawke), and his dog make their way towards Mexico through the barren desert of the Old West. In an attempt to shorten their journey, they cut through the forgotten town of Denton, a place now dubbed by locals as the “valley of violence”. The once-popular mining town is nearly abandoned, and controlled by a brash group of misfits led by Gilly Martin (James Ransone), the troublemaking son of the Marshal (John Travolta). As tensions rise between Paul and Gilly, Denton’s remaining residents bear witness to an inevitable act of violence that starts a disastrous chain reaction, infecting the petty lives of all involved and quickly dragging the whole town into the bloody crosshairs of revenge. Mary-Anne (Taissa Farmiga) and Ellen (Karen Gillan), two bickering sisters who run the town’s only hotel, try to find the good in both men, while desperately searching for their own salvation.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Opens: October 21
Set four years after the events of the first film, Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) is returning to the headquarters of his old military unit. He is now accused of a 16-year-old homicide, and finds out that it is only a part of something bigger than he thought before. The cast includes Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) and Robert Knepper (Prison Break).
Inferno
Opens: October 28
In this sequel to The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) awakens in a hospital room in Florence, Italy, with no memory of what has transpired over the last few days. He suddenly finds himself, once again, the target of a major manhunt. With the help of Dr. Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones) and his knowledge of symbology, Langdon will try to regain his freedom and lost memories, all while solving the most intricate riddle he’s ever faced.
