The fall TV season got started in September on the major networks while the cable networks are still rolling out more episodes of their dramas as well as the debuts of new shows and the premieres of others. Here are the September ratings for…
CABLE DRAMAS
MONDAYS:
Major Crimes – The final three episodes of the first part of the fifth season of the TNT drama aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 5 – 4.1 million
September 12 – 3.3 million
September 19 – 3.1 million (Mid-Season Finale)
This averages out to 3.5 million viewers for September. The remainder of episodes of Major Crimes will either air later this year or sometime in 2017 on TNT.
Too Close to Home – The new TLC drama aired three episodes during the month as well as its final two episodes in October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 5 – 600,000 viewers
September 12 – 632,000 viewers
September 19 – 683,000 viewers
October 3 – 663,000 viewers
October 10 – 756,000 viewers (Finale)
This averages out to 667,000 viewers for that time period. TLC has renewed Too Close to Home for a second season, but no official airdate has been announced yet.
NOTE: A special airing of Hit the Floor aired on VH1 on September 5, earning 1.2 million viewers.
NOTE: An official announcement was recently made by Freeform that they will not be renewing Guilt for a second season.
TUESDAYS:
Halt & Catch Fire – The AMC 1980’s-based series aired four new episode of its third season during the month as well as its final three episodes in October. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 6 – 312,000 viewers
September 13 – 324,000 viewers
September 20 – 280,000 viewers
September 27 – 307,000 viewers
October 4 – 366,000 viewers
October 11 – 407,000 viewers (Part 1 of Season Finale)
October 11 – 287,000 viewers (Part 2 of Season Finale)
This averages out to 326,000 viewers for this time period. Halt & Catch Fire was renewed for its fourth and final season by AMC. No official airdate has been announced.
If Loving You Is Wrong – The third season of the OWN drama premiered on September 13, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 13 – 2.9 million (Season Premiere)
September 20 – 2.3 million
September 27 – 2.2 million
This averages out to 2.5 million viewers for September. Three new episodes of If Loving Is Wrong aired on OWN so far this month with the next new episode set to air on Tuesday, October 25 at 9 PM.
Aftermath – The 13-episode Syfy series debuted on September 27, earning 634,000 viewers. Three new episodes aired so far this month with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Tuesday, October 25 at 10 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
Suits – The long-running legal drama aired the final two summer episodes of its sixth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 1.9 million
September 14 – 1.9 million
This averages out to 1.9 million viewers for September. Suits will return with the rest of its sixth season this winter on the USA Network.
Mr. Robot – The critically acclaimed USA Network series aired the final two episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 765,000 viewers
September 14 – 686,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 726,000 viewers for September. Mr. Robot will be back on the USA Network with a third season sometime in 2017.
Gomorrah – Four more episodes of the Italian drama aired on SundanceTV during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 81,000 viewers
September 14 – 105,000 viewers
September 21 – 83,000 viewers
September 28 – 70,000 viewers
This averages out to 85,000 viewers for September. There is no information on when more episodes of Gomorrah will air on SundanceTV.
Queen Sugar – The new OWN drama aired a two-night debut on September 6 and September 7 as well as three additional new episodes. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 6 – 2.7 million (Part 1 of DEBUT)
September 7 – 2.1 million (Part 2 of DEBUT
September 14 – 2 million
September 21 – 1.5 million
September 28 – 1.6 million
This averages out to 2 million for September. Queen Sugar aired two new episodes so far this month with the next new episode set to air on OWN on Wednesday, October 26 at 10 PM.
THURSDAYS:
Queen of the South – The gritty new USA Network aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 8 – 1.1 million
September 15 – 1.4 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for September. Queen of the South has been renewed for a second season by the USA Network.
FRIDAYS:
Dark Matter – The Syfy space drama aired the final four episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – 608,000 viewers
September 9 – 742,000 viewers
September 9 – 538,000 viewers
September 16 – 687,000 (Season Finale)
This averages out to 644,000 viewers for September. Dark Matter has been renewed for a third season on Syfy and will return in 2017.
Quarry – The new Cinemax 1970’s-themed series debuted on September 9, airing four new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 9 – 182,000 viewers (DEBUT)
September 16 – 173,000 viewers
September 23 – 204,000 viewers
September 30 – 184,000 viewers
This averages out to 186,000 viewers for September. Two new episodes of Quarry have aired so far this month with the next new episode set to air on Cinemax on Friday, October 21 at 10 PM.
Z Nation – The zombie series returned to Syfy for its third season on September 16, airing its two-hour season premiere as well as two more new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 16 – 1.1 million (Two-Hour Season Premiere)
September 23 – 1 million
September 30 – 860,000 viewers
This averages out to 987,000 viewers for September. Two new episodes of Z Nation aired so far this month with the next new episodes set to air on Syfy on Friday, October 21 at 9 PM.
Van Helsing – The new vampire-based drama debuted with two back-to-back episodes on Syfy on September 23, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 23 – 834,000 viewers (Hour 1 of DEBUT)
September 23 – 890,000 viewers (Hour 2 of DEBUT)
September 30 – 666,000 viewers
This averages out to 797,000 viewers for September. Two new episodes of Van Helsing aired so far this month with the next new episodes set to air on Syfy on Friday, October 21 at 10 PM.
SUNDAYS:
Motive – The Canadian police procedural aired the finale four episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 946,000 viewers
September 11 – 624,000 viewers
September 18 – 755,000 viewers
September 25 – 580,000 viewers (Series Finale)
This averages out to 726,000 viewers for September. Motive has yet to be renewed for another season.
The Last Ship – The post-apocalyptic TNT drama aired the final two episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 2.1 million
September 11 – 2.3 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 2.2 million viewers for September. The Last Ship has been renewed by TNT for a fourth season and will return sometime in 2017.
Ray Donovan – The Showtime series aired five new episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

September 11 – 1.5 million
September 18 – 1.3 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.4 million viewers for September. Ray Donovan was renewed by Showtime for a fifth season.
Power – The Starz drama returned for its third season on July 17, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 2 million
September 11 – No Episode Aired
September 18 – 2 million
September 25 – 2 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 2 million viewers for September. Power will return for a fourth season sometime next year on Starz.
Chesapeake Shores – The new Hallmark Channel family drama aired four new episodes during September as well as its final two this month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 2.2 million
September 11 – 2.2 million
September 18 – 1.9 million
September 25 – 1.9 million
October 2 – 2.2 million
October 9 – 1.7 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 2 million viewers for that time period. The Hallmark Channel has yet to official announce if Chesapeake Shores will return for a second season yet or not.
Fear the Walking Dead – The final six episodes of the second season of the AMC series aired during September with the two-hour finale airing on October 2. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 3 million
September 11 – 3.4 million
September 18 – 3.6 million
September 25 – 3.5 million
October 2 – 3.7 million (Hour 1 of Season Finale)
October 2 – 3 million (Hour 2 of Season Finale)
This averages out to 3.4 million for that time period. Fear the Walking Dead has been renewed by AMC for a third season.
The Strain – The horror-fest series aired four more new episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 987,000 viewers
September 11 – 1.1 million
September 18 – 990,000 viewers
September 25 – 884,000 viewers
This averages out to 990,000 viewers for September. Three new episodes of The Strain have aired so far this month with the next new episode set to air on FX on Sunday, October 23 at 10 PM.
Masters of Sex – The period piece aired the season premiere of its fourth season on Showtime on September 11, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 11 – 518,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
September 18 – 420,000 viewers
September 25 – 422,000 viewers
This averages out to 453,000 viewers for September. Three new episodes of Masters of Sex have aired so far this month with the next new episode set to air on Showtime on Sunday, October 23 at 10 PM.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES
There weren’t as many made-for-TV movies in September as there were over the summer, but still a little over a handful. Here is how each of them performed:
