On January 13, the new Netflix streaming series A Series of Unfortunate Events will debut online.
The eight-episode first series is based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) [Patrick Warburton] recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans – Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and Sunny (Pressley Smith) – whose evil guardian Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death.
The cast includes Don Johnson, Joan Cusack, Catherine O’Hara and Alfre Woodard.

On January 10, the season finale of Good Behavior will air on TNT at 9 PM while the winter premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on ABC that same night at 10 PM. Meanwhile, the winter premiere of This Is Us will air on January 10 at 9 PM on NBC and that same night the fourth season premiere of Being Mary Jane will air on BET at 10 PM.
Also on January 10, the new 8-episode FX drama Taboo will debut at 10 PM. Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney (box office star Tom Hardy), a man who has been to the ends of the earth, comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. On January 15, the 6th season premiere of Homeland will air at 9 PM on Showtime. Meanwhile, the eight-episode PBS series Victoria will debut at 9 PM for two hours that same night. The dramas follows Victoria (Jenna Coleman from Doctor Who) from the time she becomes Queen in 1837 at the age of 18 through her relationship with her first prime minister and intimate friend, Lord Melbourne (Rufus Sewell from The Man in the High Castle) and her courtship with and marriage to Prince Albert (Tom Hughes).
The Young Pope is the new HBO series that will debut on January 15 at 9 PM. Young and charming, Lenny Belardo, aka Pius XIII (Jude Law), is the first American Pope in history. His election seems to be the result of a simple yet effective media strategy on the part of the College of Cardinals. But appearances can be deceiving – above all, in the Vatican, where the leaders of the Church have chosen the great mystery of God as the compass guiding their existence. And Pius XIII proves to be the most mysterious and contradictory of them all. The cast includes Diane Keaton.
Lastly, on January 15, the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie Framed for Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery will debut at 9 PM. In the small resort town of Lighthouse Cove, everyone knows that the best man for the job is a woman. And that woman is Shannon Hughes (singer-actress Jewel), owner of a construction company and an expert in Victorian home restoration and renovation. Through her renovations she will find clues to uncover the house’s secret past and in turn become an unlikely sleuth to help crack these unsolved mysteries. The cast includes Colin Ferguson (Eureka and Cedar Cove).

Actor Daniel Lissing (When Calls the Heart) will guest star in an upcoming episode of the NBC drama Timeless, portraying Jesse James. Also, actor Jim Beaver (Supernatural) will appear in the final three episodes of the show, playing NSA Agent Neville, who comes to Mason Industries to lock horns with Agent Christopher (Sakina Jaffrey). He will play Henry Donovan, the father of presidential candidate John Donovan (series regular Jimmy Smits), a powerful oil man and passionately devoted father who is dedicated to putting his son in the White House, no matter what the obstacles. Actor Harold Perrineau (Lost) has landed a major recurring role on Criminal Minds, playing Calvin Shaw, a former FBI agent incarcerated for killing one of his informants. Shaw has a run-in with a BAU agent and the team must determine whether he’s a friend or foe. (TV Line)

RENEWALS
Amazon has given The Man in the High Castle a third season renewal. (Variety)
The CW has given an early renewal to seven of their existing series, including Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Jane the Virgin, Supernatural and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The CW will also resurrect DC’s Constantine as an animated series starring the voice of Matt Ryan on their digital outlet CW Seed. (Variety)

BOOKS TO MADE-FOR-TV MOVIE NEWS
Best-selling author Melissa de la Cruz has signed a production deal with Brad Krevoy Television (the production company behind the Hallmark Channel TV series When Calls the Heart) for three TV projects that will air at Christmastime in 2017 on Hallmark Channel. The first movie, called Angel Falls, is about a fallen angel who falls in love and wins back her halo during the Christmas season with actress Rachel Boston (Witches of East End) starring. The second movie, called Pride, Prejudice, and Mistletoe, will be a gender-swapped re-telling of the classic novel; and the third movie, called Nanny State, will tell the story of an FBI agent who goes undercover working for New York’s finest families to solve a child’s kidnapping during the Christmas holidays.
