love-on-ice

On January 7, the Hallmark Channel movie Love On Ice will debut at 9 PM.

Former figure skating champion, Emily James, now 27 years old and considered a relic in the world of figure skating, gets an improbable shot to reclaim skating glory when a young coach sees greatness in her. Together, they find their love of skating goes far beyond the ice.

The cast includes Julie Berman (Chicago Med), Andrew Walker (A Dream of Christmas) and Gail O’Grady (NYPD Blue).

2016 has come to an end with plenty of new episodes of cable dramas, made-for-TV movies and mini-series airing during the month. Here is how all of the cable network dramas fared in the ratings during December.

CABLE DRAMAS

MONDAYS:

NOTE: There weren’t any cable network dramas airing in December.

TUESDAYS:

Aftermath – The final three episodes of the debut season of the Syfy series aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 6 – 495,000 viewers
December 13 – 506,000 viewers
December 20 – 701,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 567,000 viewers for December. Syfy has yet to announce a second season renewal for Aftermath.

Teen Wolf – Two new episodes of the sixth and final season of the MTV thriller aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 6 – 508,000 viewers
December 13 – 549,000 viewers

This averages out to 529,000 viewers for December. A new episode of Teen Wolf will air on MTV on Tuesday, January 3 at 9 PM.

Sweet/Vicious – Two new episodes of this MTV drama’s first season aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 6 – 188,000 viewers
December 13 – 136,000 viewers

This averages out to 162,000 viewers for December. A new episode of Sweet/Vicious will air on MTV on Tuesday, January 3 at 10 PM.

Good Behavior – The new TNT drama aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings are as follows:

December 6 – 707,000 viewers
December 13 – 685,000 viewers
December 20 – 914,000 viewers
December 27 – 909,000 viewers

This averages out to 804,000 viewers for December. A new episode of Good Behavior will air on TNT on Tuesday, January 3 at 9 PM.

Shooter – The USA Network series aired four more new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 6 – 1.4 million
December 13 – 1.3 million
December 20 – 1.5 million
December 27 – 1.6 million

This averages out to 1.5 million viewers for December. A new episode of Shooter will air on the USA Network on Tuesday, January 3 at 10 PM.

WEDNESDAYS:

Rectify – The SundanceTV drama aired its final two episodes ever during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 4 – 112,000 viewers
December 11 – 105,000 viewers (Series Finale)

This average out to 109,000 viewers for December.

Salem – The WGN America horrorfest drama aired two episodes of its third and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 7 – 257,000 viewers
December 14 – 286,000 viewers

This averages out to 272,000 viewers for December. A new episode of Salem will air on WGN America on Wednesday, January 4 at 10 PM.

Vikings – The History Channel period piece aired four new episodes of its four season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 7 – 1.9 million
December 14 – 2.1 million
December 21 – 2.1 million
December 28 – 2.3 million

This averages out to 2.1 million viewers for December. The next new episode of Vikings will air on the History Channel on Wednesday, January 4 at 9 PM.

Incorporated – Four new episodes of the debut season of the Syfy series aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 7 – 539,000 viewers
December 14 – 572,000 viewers
December 21 – 542,000 viewers
December 28 – 464,000 viewers

This averages out to 529,000 viewers for December. The next new episode of Incorporated will air on Syfy on Wednesday, January 4 at 10 PM.

Ice – The new DirecTV drama aired four new episodes of its debut season during December, but ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down. A new episode of Ice should air on DirecTV on Wednesday, January 4 at 8 PM.

THURSDAYS:

Falling Water – The new USA Network drama aired the final four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 1 – 511,000 viewers
December 8 – 444,000 viewers
December 15 – 444,000 viewers
December 22 – 470,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 467,000 viewers for December. The USA Network has yet to announce if Falling Water will receive a second season renewal or not.

FRIDAYS:

Z Nation – The zombie series aired the final three episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 2 – 737,000 viewers
December 9 – 755,000 viewers
December 16 – 874,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 789,000 viewers for December. Z Nation has been given a fourth season renewal by Syfy and is expected to return sometime in 2017.

Van Helsing – The new vampire-based drama aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 2 – 502,000 viewers
December 9 – 561,000 viewers

This averages out to 532,000 viewers for December. Syfy has renewed Van Helsing for a second season.

SATURDAYS:

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency – The oddball comedic, sci-fi BBC America series aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 3 – 307,000 viewers
December 10 – 277,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 292,000 viewers for December. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency received a second season renewal by BBC America.

SUNDAYS:

The Walking Dead – The 7th season of the long-running thriller aired two new episodes during the month, including its mid-season finale. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 4 – 10.5 million
December 11 – 10.6 million (Mid-Season Finale)

This averages out to 10.6 million viewers for December. The Walking Dead will return for the remainder of its 7th season on AMC on Sunday, February 12 at 9 PM.

The Affair – The Showtime series aired three episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 4 – 662,000 viewers
December 11 – 666,000 viewers
December 18 – 724,000 viewers

This averages out to 684,000 viewers for December. A new episode of The Affair aired on January 1 with the next new episode set to air on Showtime on Sunday, January 8 at 10 PM.

The Royals – The E! network drama returned for its second season on December 4, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 4 – 609,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
December 11 – 679,000 viewers
December 18 – 532,000 viewers

This averages out to 607,000 viewers for December. A new episode of The Royals aired on January 1 with the next new episode set to air on E! on Sunday, January 8 at 10 PM.

The Librarians – The TNT fan-favorite aired four new episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 4 – 1.9 million
December 11 – 1.8 million
December 18 – 1.9 million
December 25 – 1.7 million

This averages out 1.8 million viewers for December. A new episode of The Librarians aired on January 1 with the next new episode set to air on TNT on Sunday, January 8 at 8 PM.

Eyewitness – The new USA Network drama aired the final three episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

December 4 – 645,000 viewers
December 11 – 638,000 viewers
December 18 – 741,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 675,000 viewers for December. The USA Network has yet to announce if Eyewitness will return for a second season.

Westworld – The new HBO sci-fi western aired its season finale on December 4, earning 2.2 million viewers. Westworld has been renewed for a second season by HBO and will air sometime in 2017.

Berlin Station – The new EPIX spy drama aired the final three new episodes of its debut season during the month. But, once again, ratings could not be tracked down for any of those episodes. Berlin Station will return to EPIX for a second season sometime in 2017.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES

There were a little over a dozen made-for-TV movies and mini-series that aired in December most of which were, obviously, holiday themed. Here is how each of them performed in the ratings:

Hairspray Live! (NBC) – 8.9 million
My Christmas Love (Hallmark Channel) – 4.6 million
Love You Like Christmas (Hallmark Channel) – 4.3 million
Sleigh Bells Ring (Hallmark Channel) – 4.2 million
Looks Like Christmas (Hallmark Channel) – 3.9 million
A Dream of Christmas (Hallmark Channel) – 3.8 million
A Nutcracker Christmas (Hallmark Channel) – 3.7 million
Hearts of Christmas (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 1.6 million
Sound of Christmas (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 1.5 million
A Christmas to Remember (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 1.4 million
Heaven Sent (Lifetime) – 1.1 million
Trapped Child (Lifetime) – 728,000 viewers
Girlfriends of Christmas Past (UP Channel) – 352,000 viewers
Season’s Greetings (UP Channel) – 284,000 viewers

There were also the following mini-series and made-for-TV movies for which ratings could not be tracked down for December:

The new NBC series Emerald City will debut for two hours on January 6 at 9 PM.

Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale (newcomer Adria Arjona) is transported to another world – a mystical land where an all-powerful ruler (Vincent D’Onofrio from Daredevil) governs over one kingdom, has outlawed magic, and faces not only the wrath of a growing cauldron of witches but a looming disaster brought on by a mythical force.

The cast includes Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Dracula), Isabel Lucas (Home and Away) and Joely Richardson.

Here is a list of programming options to expect on TV this coming week:

On January 2, the second season of Shadowhunters will return to Freeform at 8 PM followed by the two-hour series premiere of Beyond. This new series is about Holden (Burkely Duffield), a young man who wakes up from a coma after 12 years and discovers new abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy.

The winter premiere of Scorpion will air on CBS on January 2 at 10 PM.

On January 3, the 12th and final season premiere of Bones will air on FOX at 9:01 PM. That same night the 4th season premiere of The Haves and the Have Nots will air on OWN at 9 PM.

Also on January 3, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. will air their winter premieres as a special crossover on NBC at 9 and 10 PM (respectively). Chicago P.D. will then move to its regular night on January 4

The winter premieres of NCIS, Bull and NCIS: New Orleans will air on CBS at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively on January 3.

Lethal Weapon will air its winter premiere on FOX on January 4 at 8 PM followed by the time period premiere of the new show Star at 9:01 PM. That same night the winter premieres of Blindspot and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will air on NBC at 8 and 9 PM respectively. Also, that night, Criminal Minds and Code Black will air their winter premieres on CBS at 9 and 10 PM respectively.

Also on January 4, Frequency will be back with new episodes on The CW at 9 PM and that same night the second season premiere of Too Close To Home will air on TLC at 10 PM.

Nashville will air its fifth season two-hour season premiere on its new home on CMT on January 5 at 9 PM and that same night Chicago Med and The Blacklist will air their winter premieres on NBC at 9 and 10 PM respectively.

On January 6, the winter premieres of MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods will air on CBS at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively. That same night the final season of Grimm will get underway on NBC at 8 PM followed by the two-hour debut of the new series Emerald City at 9 PM. Lastly on January 8, the new Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie Garage Sale Mystery: The Art Of Murder will air at 9 PM. Jennifer Shannon (Lori Loughlin) is a garage sale shopping expert whose sharp observation skills allow her to uncover valuable antiques, as well as help her local police department investigate crimes. While arranging a charity garage sale event, Jennifer finds a body in the attic of a local residence. While working to crack the case, Jennifer offers support to her loving husband, Jason, whose upcoming birthday has sparked a mid-life crisis. As Jennifer prepares to buy him the perfect gift, she receives an urgent voicemail from Tina, pleading for her immediate assistance. When she responds, the garage sale-expert-turned-sleuth finds herself standing face-to-face with a killer. The cast includes Sarah Strange and Kevin O’Grady.
