Here are the news items for the past week:

RENEWALS/CANCELLATIONS

The Expanse has been given a third season renewal by Syfy. (Variety)

FX has renewed Legion for a second season. (Variety)

The Good Fight has been given a second season order by CBS, where it will air on CBS All Access. (Variety)

NBC has given Shades of Blue a third season order. (Variety)

Netflix has given A Series of Unfortunate Events a second season order. (Variety)

Syfy has given 12 Monkeys a fourth season renewal, but it will be the show’s last. In addition, the final season will consist of 10 episodes that won’t air until 2018, running over three days in May (4 episodes on May 19 and 3 episodes each on May 20 and 21). (TV Line)

CASTING NEWS

Actor Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom and The Martian) will star in the Hulu drama The Looming Tower, playing a bull-headed FBI veteran who is rightly convinced that the U.S. has been targeted for attack by al-Qaida and is frustrated by the competitiveness and lack of cooperation among other law enforcement agencies. The 10-episode series will stream in September. (Variety)

Actress Krysta Rodriguez (Smash and Trial & Error) has landed a recurring role in the second half of Quantico that will return tomorrow night. She will play Maxine “Max” Griffin, the intelligent, passionate and fiercely driven founder of “the Roster,” a network and visibility platform for professional women committed to helping one another rise. A DC insider who wants to change the way politics treat women, Max is not to be messed with – in her personal or professional life. (Deadline)

Actress Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue) has joined the cast of the Syfy series Van Helsing, playing Scarlett Harker, a woman with a mysterious past who might help turn the tide against the vampires. (The Futon Critic)

Actress Tracy Spiridakos (Revolution and MacGyver) has landed a recurring role in Chicago P.D., playing Detective Hailey Upton, who is in the robbery homicide unit. (Deadline)
