Hey All,
Here are the news items for this past week:
PROPOSED PROGRAMMING
Amazon Studios is developing a TV series based on the Brightness Falls trilogy of books by novelist Jay McInerney. The books take a look at a marriage over the course of 30 years: Russell and Corrine Calloway seem to be living the dream, but beneath the glossy surfaces, things are simmering and the Calloways find themselves tested more severely than they ever could have imagined. (Variety)
Executive Producer Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers and Lost) is developing his next HBO series: an adaptation of the comic book series Watchmen. Set in a universe in which the appearance of costumed heroes in the mid-20th Century had altered the course of history — leading to U.S. victory in Vietnam and a Nixon presidency that stretched into the mid-1980s — Watchmen followed a group of crime fighters investigating the murder of one of their own. (Variety)
Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat (the men behind Sherlock) are working on their new series for BBC America: a small screen adaptation of Dracula. The series will adopt the same format as Sherlock with a mini-series run of feature-length episodes. (Variety)
The CW is working on another potential spin-off for its long-running drama Supernatural. This time around they will focus on existing characters from that universe specifically Sheriff Jody Mills (played by recurring guest star Kim Rhodes). The project – tentatively called Wayward Sisters – is being developed as a planted spin-off that tells the story of Sheriff Jody Mills and a group of troubled young women, all of them orphaned by supernatural tragedy. The spin-off idea is the result of a grassroots fan effort that started two years ago. (Deadline)
CASTING NEWS
Actor Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) will star in the Crackle drama series The Oath, which will take an unforgiving look at the complicated dynamics in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, documenting the lives of those willing to risk it all, to have it all. The series is set to debut next year. (Crackle Press Release)
Actor Tony Danza (Who’s the Boss) will star in the new Netflix dramedy The Good Cop, playing Tony Sr., a disgraced, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony, Jr., an honest NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules. Tony Sr. decides to help his son by offering advice on everything from handling suspects to handling women. (Variety)
Actor Colton Haynes (Arrow and Teen Wolf) has joined the cast of the latest incarnation of American Horror Story that will be election-themed. (The Hollywood Reporter)
Actress Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) will return for the second season of Handmaid’s Tale as a series regular. (The Hollywood Reporter)
Actor Ed Quinn (Two Broke Girls and Eureka) will have a recurring role in the Netflix comedy One Day At A Time, playing an EMT who served with Penelope (series lead Justina Machado) in Kabul. They run into each other at the hospital, and sparks fly. (Deadline)
The NBC drama Taken will be drastically different when it returns mid-season next year. The show is losing six series regulars – Gaius Charles, Brooklyn Sudano, Monique Gabriela Curnen, Michael Irby, Jose Pablo Cantillo and James Landry Hébert. The only two series regular returning will be Clive Standen and Jennifer Beals. This massive exodus is due to new Executive Producer Greg Plageman (Person of Interest) taking over, as he has a new vision for the second season. (TV Line)
That’s it. Enjoy!
