Hey All,

Here are the news items for this past week:

TV AND MOVIE CASTING NEWS

Actress Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) will make a special guest appearance in the Freeform series Shadowhunters, but what character she will play has yet to be announced. (Freeform)

Actor Theo James (Divergent franchise) will appear in the Netflix drama How It Ends that centers on a mysterious apocalyptic event that turns the roads into mayhem, and a young father (James) who will stop at nothing to get home to his pregnant wife on the other side of the country. (Deadline)

Actress Tala Ashe (As the World Turns, Smash and American Odyssey) has joined the cast of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow where she will play Zari Adrianna Tomaz, a new member of the team aboard the Waverider. This character is from the year 2030, who lives in a world of contradictions: technology has brought about incredible change in her future, but too bad human nature hasn’t kept pace, making her become a “grey hat hacktivist.” In the comics work, Adrianna becomes the hero Isis. (Variety)

Actor Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights) has joined the cast of the Audience Network (on DirecTV) drama Kingdom for its final season. He will play the love interest of Lisa (portrayed by his real-life wife Kiele Sanchez). On the show the two meet in a transcendental meditation class and he winds up asking her out on a date. (TV Guide)

Actress Hannah John-Kamen (Killjoys and Black Mirror) has landed a role in the upcoming box office movie Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will find Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly reprising their roles. Details on what role John-Kamen will play, however, is being kept under wraps. The film is expected to open on July 6, 2018. (Variety)

Actor Ian Bohen (Teen Wolf) has joined the cast of the upcoming adaptation of Little Women that will include among its cast Lea Thompson and Lucas Grabeel (both from Switched at Birth). Bohen will play Freddy Bhaer in the film that is expected to be released next year to coincide with the book’s 150th anniversary publishing date. (Deadline)

Actress Jennifer Esposito will be leaving the CBS juggernaut series CBS after only one season as a series regular. (Deadline and Entertainment Weekly)

Actors Nathan Fillion (Castle), Tony Hale (Veep) and Roger Bart (Desperate Housewives) and actresses Sara Rue (Impastor) and Lucy Punch (box office film Bad Teacher) have all joined the second season of Netflix’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Details on their characters are being kept under wraps for now. (Deadline)

PICK-UP NEWS/CANCELLATION

Not unexpectedly, FOX has decided to cancel 24: Legacy after only one season run of the reboot. However, the network and studio are exploring future iterations of 24, possibly as an anthology built around the real-time storytelling format of the original series. (Variety)

The CW darkly comedic hour-long pilot Insatiable [which was not picked up for the 2017-2018 TV season], that was to star former Disney star Debby Ryan, seems to be on the path to be picked up by Netflix with a proposed 13 episode series order. The series was inspired by real-life Southern lawyer and top beauty pageant coach Bill Alverson, focusing on Bob, a disgraced, dissatisfied civil lawyer-turned-beauty pageant coach who takes on Patty (Ryan), a vengeful, bullied teenager as his client, and has no idea what he’s about to unleash upon the world. The cast also includes Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) [among others] including Charmed alum Alyssa Milano in a major recurring role. (Deadline)
