Here are the news items for this past week:

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIE CASTING

Actor Andy García will star opposite Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) in My Dinner With Hervé, which centers on an unlikely friendship that evolves over one wild night in L.A. between struggling journalist Danny Tate (Jamie Dornan from 50 Shades of Gray franchise) and actor Hervé Villechaize (Dinklage), the world’s most famous gun-toting dwarf, resulting in life-changing consequences for both. (Deadline)

TV CASTING NEWS

Actress Erica Durance (Saving Hope) – who played Lois Lane in Smallville will take over the role of Alura from Laura Benanti in the third season of Supergirl. Benanti was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in New York. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Actresses Gabrielle Anwar (Burn Notice), Dania Ramirez (Devious Maids), Adelaide Kane (Reign and Teen Wolf), Mekia Cox (Chicago Med) and Rose Reynolds (Poldark) have all joined the cast of season 7 of Once Upon a Time. Details on the roles they will play will be announced at a later date. (TV Line)

STREAMING SERIES CASTING

Actress Katrina Law (Arrow and Training Day) have joined the new drama series Crackle, which will debut in 2018. The series was created by Joe Halpin (Hawaii Five-0 and Secrets and Lies), who worked as a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy in South Central for 17 years, 12 of which as an undercover officer. The drama will take ‎an unforgiving look at the complicated dynamics in these organizations and documents the lives of those willing to risk it all, to have it all. Law will play Karen Beach, a police officer, and the sole female member of the Ravens cop gang. The cast includes Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Cory Hardrict (American Sniper and Gran Torino), Arlen Escarpeta (The Magicians) and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones). (Crackle Press Release)

BOX OFFICE FILM CASTING

Actor Josh Hopkins (Cougar Town) and actress Charisma Carpenter (Angel) have joined the sci-fi family drama Mail Order Monster that will star young actress Madison Horcher (the remake of Adventures in Babysitting as 12-year-old Sam Pepper, who lost her mother in a car accident. Her reclusive, quirky nature makes her an easy target for bullying. Realizing she’s had enough, Sam orders the parts to build a “Monster” from a comic book ad, and is finally able to get back at the bully. When Sam discovers her father Roy (Hopkins) proposed to his girlfriend Sydney (Carpenter), she relies on her monster to keep her from getting a new mom. (Deadline)

On July 13, the new series Hooten & The Lady will debut on The CW at 9 PM.

This new 8-hour series tells the story of two globetrotting treasure hunters who set out to recover priceless legendary artifacts. Hooten (Michael Landes from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) is a smooth-talking, yet foolhardy, lone wolf, who often finds himself in sticky situations. Lady Alexandra (Ophelia Lovibond from Elementary) is an aristocrat and British Museum curator who, despite being straight-laced, is eager to follow in the footsteps of history’s great archaeologists and venture to uncharted lands.

The new CBS drama Salvation will debut on July 12 at 9 PM.

The series centers on tech superstar Darius Tanz (Santiago Cabrera from Heroes and The Musketeers) and MIT grad student Liam Cole (Charlie Rowe from Red Band Society), who bring Pentagon official Grace Barrows (Jennifer Finnigan from Tyrant) a staggering discovery – that an asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth.

The cast includes Ian Anthony Dale (Hawaii Five-0 and Murder in the First).

On July 11, the two-hour debut of the new series The Bold Type will air on Freeform at 9 PM.

The series reveals a glimpse into the outrageous lives and loves of those responsible for the global women’s magazine, “Scarlet.” The rising generation of Scarlet women lean on one another as they find their own voices in a sea of intimidating leaders.
