Fall TV is not that far off; but in the meantime let’s take a look at all of the programming options airing on TV whether they were returning dramas, new series, limited events and/or mini-series as well as made-for-TV movies.

First, let’s take a look at how those cable dramas performed during the month of July.

CABLE DRAMAS

MONDAYS:

Shadowhunters – Season 2 of the Freeform fantasy series based on the books by Cassandra Clare aired four new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 3 – No Episode Aired
July 10 – 455,000 viewers
July 17 – 589,000 viewers
July 24 – 596,000 viewers
July 31 – 627,000 viewers

This averages out to 567,000 viewers for that time period. Shadowhunters aired its final two episodes at the beginning of August; and those numbers will be included in next month’s report. Shadowhunters will return for a fourth season on Freeform in 2018.

Stitchers – The second season of the Freeform sci-fi series aired four new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 3 – No Episode Aired
July 10 – 295,000 viewers
July 17 – 349,000 viewers
July 24 – 335,000 viewers
July 31 – 401,000 viewers

This averages out to 345,000 viewers for that time period. Stitchers aired its final two episodes at the beginning of August; and those numbers will be included in next month’s report. Stitchers has yet to be renewed for a third season by Freeform.

Preacher – The AMC fantasy drama aired five new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 3 – 1.1 million
July 10 – 1.2 million
July 17 – 1.3 million
July 24 – 1.2 million
July 31 – 1.2 million

This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 7, August 14 and August 21 with the next new episode of Preacher set to air on AMC on Monday, August 28 at 9 PM.

Will – The new period piece TNT series about young William Shakespeare debuted with two episodes on July 10, airing an additional three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 10 – 633,000 viewers (DEBUT – Hour One)
July 10 – 477,000 viewers (DEBUT – Hour Two)
July 17 – 471,000 viewers
July 24 – 368,000 viewers
July 31 – 300,000 viewers

This averages out to 450,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 7, August 14 and August 21 with the next new episode of Will set to air on TNT on Monday, August 28 at 11 PM.

TUESDAYS:

Animal Kingdom – The crime family TNT drama aired three new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 4 – No Episode Aired
July 11 – 1.2 million
July 18 – 1.3 million
July 25 – 1.1 million

This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 1, August 8 and August 15 with the next new episode of Animal Kingdom set to air on TNT on Tuesday, August 22 at 9 PM.

The Haves and the Have Nots – The OWN soap opera aired three new episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 4 – No Episode Aired
July 11 – 2.3 million
July 18 – 2.4 million
July 25 – 2.4 million

This averages out to 2.4 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 1, August 8 and August 15 with the next new episode of The Haves and the Have Nots set to air on OWN on Tuesday, August 22 at 9 PM.

The Fosters – The Freeform family drama returned for its fifth season on July 11, airing three new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 11 – 872,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
July 18 – 687,000 viewers
July 25 – 764,000 viewers

This averages out to 774,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 1, August 8 and August 15 with the next new episode of The Fosters set to air on Freeform on Tuesday, August 22 at 8 PM.

The Bold Type – The new Freeform drama debuted with two episodes on July 11, airing two additional new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 11 – 355,000 viewers (DEBUT – Hour One)
July 11 – 302,000 viewers (DEBUT – Hour Two)
July 18 – 275,000 viewers
July 25 – 359,000 viewers

This average out to 323,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 1, August 8 and August 15 with the next new episode of The Bold Type set to air on Freeform on Tuesday, August 22 at 9 PM.

Shooter – The second season of the USA Network premiered on July 18, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 18 – 1.5 million (Season Premiere)
July 25 – 1.2 million

This averages out to 1.4 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 1, August 8 and August 15 with the next new episode of Shooter set to air on the USA Network on Tuesday, August 22 at 10 PM.

Being Mary Jane – The BET drama returned for the remainder of its fourth season on July 18, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 18 – 667,000 viewers (Mid-Season Premiere)
July 25 – 787,000 viewers

This averages out to 727,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 1, August 8 and August 15 with the next new episode of Being Mary Jane set to air on BET on Tuesday, August 22 at 10 PM.

WEDNESDAYS:

Queen Sugar – The OWN drama series aired four new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 5 – 1.5 million
July 12 – 1.5 million
July 19 – 1.6 million
July 26 – 1.6 million
August 2 – 1.6 million (Mid-Season Finale)

This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for the time period. New episodes of the second season of Queen Sugar will return to OWN either later this year or sometime in 2018.

Blood Drive – The new gore-filled Syfy series aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 5 – 490,000 viewers
July 12 – 454,000 viewers
July 19 – 436,000 viewers
July 26 – 380,000 viewers

This averages out to 440,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 2, August 9, August 16 and August 23 with the next new episode of Blood Drive set to air on Syfy on Wednesday, August 30 at 10 PM.

Cleverman – The SundanceTV drama aired four new episodes of its second season in July as well as its finale on August 2. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 5 – 76,000 viewers
July 12 – 70,000 viewers
July 19 – 72,000 viewers
July 26 – 62,000 viewers
August 2 – 57,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 67,000 viewers for that time period. Cleverman has yet to be renewed for a third season.

Broadchurch – The BBC America drama aired four episodes of its third and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 5 – 355,000 viewers
July 12 – 284,000 viewers
July 19 – 256,000 viewers
July 26 – 276,000 viewers

This averages out 293,000 viewers for July. The final three episodes of Broadchurch aired on BBC America on August 2, August 9 and August 16. The ratings for those episodes will be included in next month’s report.

Younger – The TV Land dramedy aired four new episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 5 – 661,000 viewers
July 12 – 713,000 viewers
July 19 – 671,000 viewers
July 26 – 672,000 viewers

This averages out to 679,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 2, August 9, August 16 and August 23 with the next new episode of Younger set to air on TV Land on Wednesday, August 30 at 10 PM.

Suits – The long-running USA Network legal drama returned for the start of its seventh season on July 12, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 12 – 1.4 million (Season Premiere)
July 19 – 1.4 million
July 26 – 1.4 million

This averages out (naturally) to 1.4 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 2, August 9, August 16 and August 23 with the next new episode of Suits set to air on the USA Network on Wednesday, August 30 at 9 PM.

Kingdom – The DirecTV drama aired the final four episodes of its third and final season during July and aired its series finale on August 2. No ratings could be tracked down for any of those episodes, though.

THURSDAYS:

Nashville – The former ABC series, now on CMT, aired four new episodes of its fifth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 6 – 710,000 viewers
July 13 – 631,000 viewers
July 20 – 718,000 viewers
July 27 – 724,000 viewers

This averages out to 696,000 viewers for July. The final two episodes aired at the beginning of August and those ratings will be included in next month’s report. Nashville will return for its fifth season on CMT either later in 2017 or sometime in 2018.

Queen of the South – The USA Network drama aired four new episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 6 – 1.1 million
July 13 – 1.1 million
July 20 – 1.2 million
July 27 – 1.2 million

This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 3, August 10, August 17 and August 24 with the next new episode of Queen of the South set to air on the USA Network on Thursday, August 31 at 10 PM.

The Mist – The new Spike TV series, based on a story by Stephen King, aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 6 – 428,000 viewers
July 13 – 487,000 viewers
July 20 – 538,000 viewers
July 27 – 411,000 viewers

This averages out to 466,000 viewers for July. New episodes of The Mist aired on August 3, August 10, and August 17. The season finale aired on August 24. Spike TV has yet to announce if the show will be given a second season renewal.

The Tunnel: Sabotage – The PBS mini-series aired the remaining four episodes of its second season throughout July and the season finale on August 3. No ratings could not be tracked down for those episodes, though.

FRIDAYS:

Killjoys – The sci-fi series aired four new episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 7 – 605,000 viewers
July 14 – 638,000 viewers
July 21 – 579,000 viewers
July 28 – 722,000 viewers

This averages out to 636,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 4, August 11, August 18 and August 24 with the next new episode of Killjoys set to air on Syfy on Friday, September 1 at 8 PM.

Dark Matter – The sci-fi series aired four new episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 7 – 583,000 viewers
July 14 – 568,000 viewers
July 21 – 502,000 viewers
July 28 – 693,000 viewers

This averages out to 587,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 4, August 11, and August 18 with the season finale airing on August 25. Ratings for those episodes will be included in next month’s report. There is no word yet on whether Syfy will give Dark Matter a fourth season or not.

Wynonna Earp – The fantasy drama aired four new episodes of its second season on Syfy during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 7 – 499,000 viewers
July 14 – 496,000 viewers
July 21 – 397,000 viewers
July 28 – 574,000 viewers

This averages out to 492,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 4, August 11, and August 18 with the season finale airing on August 25. Wynonna Earp has been renewed for a third season by Syfy.

Date My Dad – The new UP Channel family drama aired the final four episodes of its debut season during July, but no ratings could be tracked down.

SATURDAYS:

Orphan Black – The fifth and final season of the acclaimed BBC America series aired five new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 1 – 277,000 viewers
July 8 – 271,000 viewers
July 15 – 236,000 viewers
July 22 – 278,000 viewers
July 29 – 285,000 viewers

This averages out to 269,000 viewers for July. The final two episodes of Orphan Black aired at the beginning of August on BBC America; and those ratings will be included in next month’s report.

Turn: Washington’s Spies – The AMC period piece drama aired five new episodes of its fourth and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 1 – 676,000 viewers
July 8 – 637,000 viewers
July 15 – 603,000 viewers
July 22 – 545,000 viewers
July 29 – 597,000 viewers

This averages out to 612,000 viewers for July. The final two episodes of Turn: Washington’s Spies aired on AMC at the beginning of August; and those ratings will be included in next month’s report.

Doctor Who – The season finale of the long-running sci-fi series aired on July 1, earning 655,000 viewers. The next new episode of Doctor Who will be its Christmas episode, which is expected to air on Christmas Day on BBC America here in the States.

SUNDAYS:

Twin Peaks: The Return – Four more new episodes of the creepy world aired created by David Lynch on Showtime during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 2 – No Episode Aired
July 9 – 355,000 viewers
July 16 – 267,000 viewers
July 23 – 219,000 viewers
July 30 – 240,000 viewers

This averages out to 270,000 viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 6, August 13 and August 20 with the next new episode of Twin Peaks: The Return set to air on Showtime on Sunday, August 27 at 9 PM.

Fear the Walking Dead – The AMC zombiefest prequel aired three new episodes of its third season including its mid-season finale during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 2 – 2.2 million
July 9 – 2.6 million (Mid-Season Finale Hour One)
July 9 – 2.4 million (Mid-Season Finale Hour Two)

This averages out to 2.4 million for July. Fear the Walking Dead will return for the rest of its third season on AMC starting on Sunday, September 10.

Power – The Starz drama aired five new episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 2 – 1.4 million
July 9 – 1.7 million
July 16 – 1.7 million
July 23 – 1.8 million
July 30 – 1.8 million

This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 6, August 13 and August 20 with the next new episode of Power set to air on Starz on Sunday, August 27 at 9 PM.

The Strain – The FX gore-fest premiered its fourth and final season on July 16, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 16 – 1.4 million (Season Premiere)
July 23 – 913,000 viewers
July 30 – 864,000 viewers

This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 6, August 13 and August 20 with the next new episode of The Strain set to air on FX on Sunday, August 27 at 9 PM.

Game of Thrones – The HBO hit series returned for its seventh season on July 16, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

July 16 – 10.1 million (Season Premiere)
July 23 – 9.3 million
July 30 – 9.2 million

This averages out to 9.5 million viewers for July. New episodes aired on August 6, August 13 and August 20 with the next new episode of Games of Thrones set to air on HBO on Sunday, August 27 at 9 PM.

Teen Wolf – The rest of the sixth and final season of the MTV thriller returned on July 30, earning 518,000 viewers. New episodes aired on August 6, August 13 and August 20 with the next new episode of Teen Wolf set to air on MTV on Sunday, September 3 at 8 PM.

Grantchester – The PBS mini-series aired the final five episodes of its third season during the month, but ratings could not be tracked down for any of those episodes. Grantchester has yet to be renewed for a fourth season.

Prime Suspect: Tennison – The three episode mini-series aired its final two episodes on PBS during the month, but ratings could not be tracked down.

Remember Me – The PBS mini-series aired its three episodes during July, but ratings could not be tracked down for any of them.

Heartland – The popular Canadian series aired more new episodes of 10th season on the UP Channel during the month; but ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down. Check your local listings for airtimes of any new episodes.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES

There were only five made-for-TV movies and/or mini-series to air in July. Here are the ratings for those movies:

Descendants 2 (Disney) – 5.3 million *
The Christmas Cure (Hallmark Channel) – 2.1 million
Home on Christmas Day (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 1.3 million
Blood Father (USA Network) – 1.2 million
Story of a Girl (Lifetime) – 998,000 viewers

* This movie also aired on Lifetime, earning 302,000 viewers; Lifetime Movie Network, earning 149,000 viewers and Freeform, earning 261,000 viewers.

Ratings results for the cable dramas, mini-series and made-for-TV movies that have and will air in August that can be tracked down will be provided as soon as possible in September.

On August 27, the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie Garage Sale Mystery: A Case of Murder will debut at 9 PM.

Jenn (Lori Loughlin) buys an old reel-to-reel recorder at a garage sale only to find that it includes the sound of a man pleading for his life. When the former owner of the recorder, a retired therapist, is found murdered in a patient’s apartment, Jenn’s investigation leads to other patients whose love lives are more entangled than she was first led to believe. The film also stars Sarah Strange and Steve Bacic.

Comic Con 2017 was held in San Diego from July 19 through July 23.

The Hallmark Channel original “Summer Nights” movie Sun, Sand and Romance will debut on August 26 at 9 PM.

Kate Mitchell is a driven publishing executive visiting a summer resort with her boyfriend Eric. There she runs into Shep, an old high school friend and fellow camp counselor, who is now the Activities Director.

Shep tries to convince her to take advantage of all the resort has to offer. She reluctantly caves when Eric is pulled away on business. As carefree Shep helps Kate rediscover her fun side; Kate helps Shep to stop hiding from life and realize his own potential.

The film stars Tricia Helfer, Paul Campbell (both from Battlestar Galactica) and Scott Elrod (from Men in Trees).
