The Fall TV season is fully underway, heading into the holiday season on the major networks with plenty to also watch on the cable networks – both dramas, mini-series and made-for-TV movies.
Let’s take a look at how all of the cable dramas performed during the month of October.
CABLE DRAMAS
MONDAYS:
The Halcyon – The new Ovation period piece drama debuted on October 2, airing five episodes during the month, but – unfortunately – ratings for only one episode in the month could be tracked down. The ratings for the October 9 episode were 58,000 viewers
TUESDAYS:
American Horror Story: Cult – The long-running FX anthology series aired five new episodes of its current season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 3 – 2.2 million viewers
October 10 – 2.1 million viewers
October 17 – 2.1 million viewers
October 24 – 2.1 million viewers
October 31 – 1.5 million viewers
This averages out to 2 million viewers for October. The final two episodes of American Horror Story: Cult aired on November 7 and 14 with the season finale airing on November 21. The ratings for those episodes will be provided in next month’s report.
Major Crimes – The sixth and final season of the TNT police drama premiered on October 31, earning 1.7 million viewers. New episode of Major Crimes aired on November 7 and November 14 with the next new episode set to air on TNT tonight, Tuesday, November 21 at 9 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
Channel Zero: No-End House – The Syfy thriller anthology aired the last four episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 4 – 406,000 viewers
October 11 – 477,000 viewers
October 18 – 407,000 viewers
October 25 – 374,000 viewers (Finale)
This averages out to 416,000 viewers for October. A new season of Channel Zero has been renewed by Syfy, but it has yet to be announced what this latest version will be called or when it will air.
Liar – The remaining episodes of the SundanceTV mini-series aired during October and on November 1. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 4 – No ratings could be tracked down
October 11 – 93,000 viewers
October 18 – 100,000 viewers
October 25 – 97,000 viewers
November 1 – 132,000 viewers (Finale)
This averages out to approximately 106,000 viewers for the above time period. A second season of Liar has yet to be announced by SundanceTV.
Queen Sugar – The OWN drama returned for a two-part mid-season premiere on October 3 and October 4 with three additional episodes of the second season airing during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 3 – 1.7 million viewers (Mid-Season Premiere, Part 1)
October 4 – 1.2 million viewers (Mid-Season Premiere, Part 1)
October 11 – 1.3 million viewers
October 18 – 1.1 million viewers
October 25 – 1.3 million viewers
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for October. New episodes of Queen Sugar aired on November 1 and November 8 with the finale airing on OWN on Wednesday, November 15. The ratings for those episodes will be provided in next month’s report.
Mr. Robot – The third season of the USA Network drama premiered on October 11, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 11 – 681,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 18 – 519,000 viewers
October 25 – 542,000 viewers
This averages out to 581,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Mr. Robot aired on November 1, November 8 and November 15 with the next new episode set to air on the USA Network on November 22 at 10 PM.
The Shannara Chronicles – The fantasy drama moved from its original home on MTV to SpikeTV, airing the season premiere of its second season on October 11. Three episodes aired during the month. The ratings for those are as follows:
October 11 – 314,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 18 – 206,000 viewers
October 25 – 225,000 viewers
This averages out to 248,000 viewers for October. New episodes of The Shannara Chronicles aired on November 1, November 8 and November 15 with the final two episodes set to air on SpikeTV on November 22 at 9 PM and 10 PM.
THURSDAYS:
Van Helsing – The Syfy thriller returned for the start of its second season on October 5, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 459,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 12 – 451,000 viewers
October 19 – 488,000 viewers
October 26 – 456,000 viewers
This averages out to 464,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Van Helsing aired on November 2, November 9 and November 16 with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Thursday, November 23 at 9 PM.
Ghost Wars – The new thriller debuted on Syfy starting on October 5, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 512,000 viewers (DEBUT)
October 12 – 505,000 viewers
October 19 – 393,000 viewers
October 26 – 498,000 viewers
This averages out to 477,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Ghost Wars aired on November 2, November 9 and November 16 with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Thursday, November 23 at 10 PM.
FRIDAYS:
Z Nation – The Syfy zombiefest series aired four more new episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 6 – 545,000 viewers
October 13 – 576,000 viewers
October 20 – 616,000 viewers
October 27 – 600,000 viewers
This averages out to 584,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Z Nation aired on November 3 and November 10 with the next new episodes set to air on Syfy on Friday, November 17 at 9 PM.
Superstition – The new Syfy thriller debuted on October 20, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 20 – 453,000 viewers (DEBUT)
October 27 – 334,000 viewers
This averages out to 394,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Superstition aired on November 3 and November 10 with the next new episodes set to air on Syfy on Friday, November 17 at 10 PM.
SATURDAYS:
Halt and Catch Fire – The last three episodes of the fourth and final season of the AMC period piece aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 327,000 viewers
October 14 – 394,000 viewers (Two-Hour Series Finale)
This averages out to 361,000 viewers for October.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency – The BBC America drama returned for the start of its second season on October 14, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 14 – 235,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 21 – 245,000 viewers
October 28 – 219,000 viewers
This averages out to 233,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Dirk Gently aired on November 4 and November 11 with the next new episode set to air on BBC America on Saturday, November 18 at 9 PM.
Versailles – The Ovation period piece drama aired four episodes of its second season during October. Ratings could only be tracked down for two of those four episodes. On October 14 it earned 145,000 viewers and on October 21 it earned 173,000 viewers. New episodes of Versailles aired on November 4 and 11 with the next new episode set to air on Ovation on Saturday, November 18 at 10 PM.
SUNDAYS:
Chesapeake Shores – The final two episodes of the second season of the Hallmark Channel family drama aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 1.9 million viewers
October 8 – 1.6 million viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.8 million viewers for October. Hallmark Channel has yet to renew Chesapeake Shores for a third season.
Ray Donovan – The final five episodes of the Showtime crime drama aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 1.2 million viewers
October 8 – 1.2 million viewers
October 15 – 1.2 million viewers
October 22 – 1.2 million viewers
October 29 – 1.2 million viewers
This obviously averages out to 1.2 million for October. Ray Donovan has been renewed by Showtime for a sixth season, which will air sometime in 2018.
The Last Ship – The TNT post-apocalyptic drama aired the final three episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 1.3 million viewers
October 8 – 1.3 million viewers (Season Finale – Hour 1)
October 8 – 1.2 million viewers (Season Finale – Hour 2)
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for October. The Last Ship was actually renewed by TNT for two more seasons with the fifth season set to air sometime next year.
Fear the Walking Dead – The AMC zombiefest aired the final four hours of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 2.4 million viewers
October 8 – 2.2 million viewers
October 15 – 2.2 million viewers (Two-Hour Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for October. Fear the Walking Dead has been renewed for a third season by AMC, and will return at some point in 2018.
The Deuce – The 70’s-80’s themed series about the seedy world of porn aired the final five episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 941,000 viewers
October 8 – 888,000 viewers
October 15 – 812,000 viewers
October 22 – 953,000 viewers
October 29 – 774,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 874,000 viewers for October. The Deuce has been renewed by HBO for a second season, which will air at some point in 2018.
Outlander – The third season of the period piece drama aired four more new episodes on Starz during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 1.6 million viewers
October 8 – 1.6 million viewers
October 15 – No Episode Aired
October 22 – 1.7 million viewers
October 29 – 1.5 million viewers
This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for October. New episodes aired on November 5, November 12 and November 19 with the next new episode of Outlander set to air on Starz on Sunday, November 26 at 8 PM.
Good Behavior – The TNT drama aired its second season premiere episode on October 15, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 15 – 686,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 22 – 558,000 viewers
October 29 – 504,000 viewers
This averages out to 583,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Good Behavior aired on November 5, November 12 and November 19 with the next new episode set to air on TNT on Sunday, November 26 at 10 PM.
Poldark – The PBS period drama returned for its third season on October 1, airing five episodes during the month, but ratings could not be tracked down for any of them. New episodes of Poldark aired on November 5 and November 12 with the season finale airing on November 19. Ratings, if they can be tracked down, will be included in next month’s report. Poldark has yet to be renewed for a fourthseason by PBS.
The Durrells of Corfu – The PBS drama returned for its second season on October 15, airing three episodes during the month, but no ratings could be tracked down. New episodes aired on November 5, November 12 and November 19. Ratings, if they can be tracked down, will be included in next month’s report. The Durrells of Corfu has yet to be renewed for a third season by PBS.
Berlin Station – The spy drama on EPIX premiered its second season on October 15, airing three episodes during the month, but no ratings could be tracked down. New episodes of Berlin Station aired on November 5, November 12 and November 19 with the next episode set to air on EPIX on Sunday, November 26 at 9 PM.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES
There were 15 made-for-TV movies that aired during October. Here are the ratings for those movies:
Marry Me at Christmas (Hallmark Channel) – 3.4 million viewers
All of My Heart: Inn Love (Hallmark Channel) – 2.8 million viewers
Good Witch: Spellbound (Hallmark Channel) – 2.7 million viewers
