Here is the long list of the new programming options to expect on TV this coming holiday week:

On January 15, the two-hour season finale of The Gifted will air on FOX at the special time of 8 PM. That same night the winter premiere of Supergirl will air at 8 PM on The CW and Scorpion will return to CBS with new episodes at 10 PM.

The Flash will air it winter premiere on The CW at 8 PM on January 16 followed by the series premiere of Black Lightning at 9 PM.

On January 17, the third season premiere of The Path will air on Hulu online as well as the winter premieres of Riverdale and Dynasty that same night at 8 and 9 PM respectively on The CW.

Also on January 17, the debut of American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace will air on FX at 10 PM

The two-hour season premiere of Beyond will air on Freeform at 8 PM on January 18. That same night, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder will all air their winter premieres on ABC at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively. And, Supernatural and Arrow will air their winter premieres on The CW at 8 and 9 PM respectively also on January 18. The season finale of the USA Network series Damnation will also air that night at 10 PM.

On January 20, the Hallmark Channel movie One Winter Weekend will debut at 9 PM, starring Taylor Cole and Jack Turner. That same night, the Lifetime movie Cocaine Godmother: The Griselda Blanco Story will debut at 8 PM, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones in the title role.

The Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie Morning Show Murders: Mortal Mishaps will debut on January 21 at 9 PM, starring Holly Robinson Peete and Rick Fox.

Also on January 21, the series premiere of Counterpart will debut on Starz at 8 PM and the new FOX drama The Resident will debut at 10 PM [after the NFC Championship game]. The show will move to its regular timeslot of 9 PM on January 22.

Lastly, that same night, the Screen Actors Guild Awards will air on TBS and TNT at 8 PM.

Here are the news items for this past week:

RENEWALS

Both Hulu series Future Man and Runaways have been renewed. Both shows will get 13 episodes for their second seasons. On the other hand, Hulu has canceled the Hugh Laurie-led series Chance after two seasons. (Variety)

AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for a 9th season. (Press Release)

CASTING NEWS

Actors David Oyelowo and Dominic West and actress Lily Collins have landed the lead roles in the upcoming 6-part BBC mini-series adaptation of Les Miserables. West will play French convict Jean Valjean while Oyelowo will play Inspector Javert and Collins will play Fantine. (Variety)

TNT has picked up the small screen adaptation of Snowpiercer, the 2013 box office film, to series. The series will star Jennifer Connelly and will be set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, centering on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. (Variety)

Gillian Anderson confirmed her exit on The X-Files this week and has ruled out any future return. She has also dropped out of American Gods. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Actor Michael J. Fox will appear in a 5-episode arc of Designated Survivor where he will play Ethan West, a high-flying and connected Washington attorney who is hired by the President’s Cabinet and ultimately appointed as special prosecutor to investigate former President Cornelius Moss’s alleged leak of classified information. (The Futon Critic)

Actors Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) and Maximiliano Hernandez (Sicaro) have joined the cast of the AT&T Audience Network series Mr. Mercedes. Huston will play Brady Hartsfield’s doctor Dr. Felix Babineau and Hernandez will portray Assistant DA Antonio Montez. (Deadline)

Actress Fiona Gubelmann (Wilfred) will have a recurring role in The Good Doctor, playing Morgan, a charming, funny new resident who is fully embracing life and yet also quite cutthroat. (Deadline)

Actress Brooke Shields will appear in multi-episodes of Jane the Virgin, playing River Fields, a famous actress/supermodel who sparks a feud with Rogelio and becomes his new nemesis. (TV Line)

It looks like Skyler Samuels (who plays the telepathic Esme Frost and her identical siblings) in The Gifted just might be getting promoted to series regular when the show returns for its second season. (TV Line)

On January 17, the debut of American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace will air on FX at 10 PM

The show focuses on the final days and murder of the Italian fashion designer [to be played by Edgar Ramirez] and explores the sadistic mind of his killer Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss of Glee fame), a 27-year-old serial killer, who also murdered Chicago tycoon Lee Miglin (Mike Farrell) and at least three others before committing suicide.

The cast includes Penelope Cruz, Ricky Martin, Max Greenfield, Judith Light, Finn Wittrock and Nico Evers-Swindell.

On January 16, the series premiere of the new superhero drama Black Lightning will debut on The CW at 9 PM.

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams from Hart of Dixie) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community.

Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns – to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

The cast includes Nafessa Williams (Code Black), China Anne McClain (A.N.T. Farm and House of Payne) and Christine Adams (Feed the Beast and Marvels’ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
