April is well behind us and I am a little late in posting the cable ratings for that month, but let’s take a look at how all the cable offerings fared last month.

First let’s take a look at how all of the cable dramas performed during the month of April.

CABLE DRAMAS

MONDAYS:

McMafia – The AMC drama aired its final four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 2 – 218,000 viewers
April 9 – 182,000 viewers
April 16 – 207,000 viewers
April 23 – 167,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 194,000 viewers for April. A second season of McMafia has yet to be announced by AMC.

UnReal – The Lifetime series aired the final five episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 2 – 245,000 viewers
April 9 – 314,000 viewers
April 16 – 369,000 viewers
April 23 – 263,000 viewers (Finale, Hour 1)
April 23 – 218,000 viewers (Finale, Hour 2)

This averages out to 282,000 viewers for April. UnReal will return for a fourth season on Lifetime, but a return date has yet to be announced.

Mary Kills People – The Canadian series aired the final two episodes of its second season on Lifetime during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 2 – 308,000 viewers
April 9 – 330,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 319,000 viewers for April. It has yet to be announced if Mary Kills People will receive a third season renewal yet.

The Terror – The AMC period piece drama aired five episodes from its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 2 – 1.1 million viewers
April 9 – 1.2 million viewers
April 16 – 905,000 viewers
April 23 – 923,000 viewers
April 30 – 968,000 viewers

This averages out to 1 million viewers for April. Two new episodes aired on May 7 and May 14 with the extended season finale of The Terror set to air on AMC tonight, May 21 at 9 PM.

X Company – The Ovation period piece drama aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month, but no ratings could be tracked down. The second season of the drama returned to Ovation starting on May 7, airing new episodes on May 14 and tonight, May 21 at 10 PM.

TUESDAYS:

Shadowhunters – The Freeform fantasy series aired four new episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 3 – 463,000 viewers
April 10 – 346,000 viewers
April 17 – 296,000 viewers
April 24 – 425,000 viewers

This averages out to 383,000 viewers for April. The final four episodes of the first part of the third season of Shadowhunters aired during May and those ratings will be provided in the next report. The rest of the third season of Shadowhunters will return on Freeform sometime later this year.

Legion – The FX drama returned for the start of its second season on April 3, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 3 – 669,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 10 – 439,000 viewers
April 17 – 380,000 viewers
April 24 – 434,000 viewers

This averages out to 481,000 viewers for April. Three new episodes aired on May 1, May 8 and May 15 with the next new episode of Legion set to air on FX on Tuesday, May 22 at 10 PM.

In Contempt – The new BET drama debuted on April 10, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 10 – 540,000 viewers (Series Debut)
April 17 – 468,000 viewers
April 24 – 466,000 viewers

This averages out to 491,000 viewers in April. Three new episodes aired on May 1, May 8 and May 15 with the next new episode of In Contempt set to air on BET on Tuesday, May 22 at 10 PM.

Genius: Picasso – The National Geographic anthology series premiered on April 24, earning 717,000 viewers. New episodes aired on May 1, May 8 and May 15 with the next new episode of Genius: Picasso set to air on Tuesday, May 22 at 10 PM.

WEDNESDAYS:

Hap & Leonard: The Two-Bear Mambo – The final two episodes of the third season of the Sundance TV series aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 4 – 190,000 viewers
April 11 – 174,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 182,000 viewers for April. Unfortunately, Hap & Leonard was cancelled by Sundance TV.

The Expanse – The third season of Syfy drama premiered on April 11, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 11 – 653,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 18 – 5000,000 viewers
April 25 – 563,000 viewers

This averages out to 572,000 for April. New episodes aired on May 2, May 9 and May 16 with the next new episode of The Expanse set to air on Syfy on Wednesday, May 23 at 9 PM.

Krypton – The Syfy Superman-prequel (of sorts) aired four episodes from its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 4 – 955,000 viewers
April 11 – 873,000 viewers
April 18 – 725,000 viewers
April 25 – 597,000 viewers

This averages out to 788,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 2, May 9 and May 16 with the final episode of Krypton set to air on Syfy on Wednesday, May 23 at 10 PM.

The Americans – The long-running FX drama aired four episodes of its final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 4 – 616,000 viewers
April 11 – 705,000 viewers
April 18 – 569,000 viewers
April 25 – 538,000 viewers

This averages out to 607,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 2, May 9 and May 16 with the next new episode of The Americans set to air on FX on Wednesday, May 23 at 10 PM.

Suits – The long-running USA Network legal drama aired the five final episodes of its 7th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 4 – 1.1 million viewers
April 11 – 949,000 viewers
April 18 – 989,000 viewers
April 25 – 1.1 million viewers (Season Finale, Hour 1)
April 25 – 1.1 million viewers (Season Finale, Hour 2)

This averages out to 1 million viewers for April. Suits will be back for an 8th season on the USA Network this July.

Famous in Love – The Freeform soap opera returned for a second season starting on April 4 airing five episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 4 – 287,000 viewers (Season Premiere, Hour 1)
April 4 – 193,000 viewers (Season Premiere, Hour 2)
April 11 – 261,000 viewers
April 18 – 212,000 viewers
April 25 – 263,000 viewers

This averages out to 243,000 viewers for April. Three new episodes aired on May 2, May 9 and May 16 with the next new episode of Famous in Love set to air on Freeform on Wednesday, May 23 at 8 PM.

Ice – The Audience Network drama (available only via DirecTV) aired four episodes of its second season during the month but no ratings could be tracked down. New episodes aired on May 2, May 9 and May 16 with the next new episode of Ice set to air on the Audience Network on Wednesday, May 23 at 10 PM.

THURSDAYS:

Siren – The new mermaid-based Freeform drama aired four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 5 – 621,000 viewers
April 12 – 683,000 viewers
April 19 – 692,000 viewers
April 26 – 587,000 viewers

This averages out to 646,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 3, May 10 and May 17 with the next new episode of Siren set to air on Freeform on Thursday, May 24 at 8 PM.

Imposters – The Bravo drama returned for its second season starting on April 5, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 5 – 441,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 12 – 394,000 viewers
April 19 – 397,000 viewers
April 26 – 349,000 viewers

This averages out to 395,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 3, May 10 and May 17 with the next new episode of Imposters set to air on Bravo on Wednesday, May 24 at 10 PM.

FRIDAYS:

Strike Back – The final episode of the Cinemax military drama aired on April 6, earning 95,000 viewers. Strike Back has been renewed for another season by Cinemax, but an official airdate will be announced later.

Rellik – The new Cinemax drama debuted on April 13, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 13 – 58,000 viewers (Series Debut)
April 20 – 88,000 viewers
April 27 – 152,000 viewers

This averages out to 99,000 viewers for April. The final three episodes of Rellik aired on May 4, May 11 and May 18 on Cinemax, and the ratings for those episodes will be provided in next month’s report.

Shoot the Messenger – The WGN America drama aired the final three episodes of its debut season on its new night and time (Fridays at midnight), but ratings could not be tracked down for any of those episodes. WGN America has yet to announce if there will be a second season of Shoot the Messenger.

SATURDAYS:

No cable dramas aired on Saturday nights during April.

SUNDAYS:

Here And Now – The new HBO drama aired the final three episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 364,000 viewers
April 8 – 369,000 viewers
April 15 – 382,000 viewers (Series Finale)

This averages out to 372,000 viewers for April. HBO cancelled Here And Now after only one season.

Homeland – The long-running Showtime drama aired the final five episodes of its 7th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 1.2 million viewers
April 8 – 1.2 million viewers
April 15 – 1.3 million viewers
April 22 – 1.4 million viewers
April 29 – 1.3 million viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for April. Homeland has been renewed for an 8th season by Showtime, and will be back sometime next year.

When Calls the Heart – The Hallmark Channel family favorite series aired the final four episodes of its 5th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 1.9 million viewers
April 8 – 2.1 million viewers
April 15 – 2 million viewers
April 22 – 2.6 million viewers (Season Finale)

This, of course, averages out to 2.2 million viewers for April. When Calls the Heart has been renewed for a 6th season by Hallmark Channel, and will be back sometime next year.

The Walking Dead – The AMC zombiefest aired the final three episodes of its 8th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 6.3 million viewers
April 8 – 6.7 million viewers
April 15 – 7.9 million viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 7 million viewers for April. The Walking Dead will be back on AMC with its 9th season sometime this fall.

The Arrangement – The E! Entertainment Hollywood-based drama aired five episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 412,000 viewers
April 8 – 399,000 viewers
April 15 – 361,000 viewers
April 22 – 390,000 viewers
April 29 – 401,000 viewers

This averages out to 391,000 viewers for April. The final two episodes aired on May 6 and May 13. The ratings for those episodes will be provided in next month’s report. The Arrangement has yet to be given a third season renewal by E! Entertainment Network.

The Royals – The over-the-top fictional royal drama aired five episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 351,000 viewers
April 8 – 389,000 viewers
April 15 – 349,000 viewers
April 22 – 351,000 viewers
April 29 – 387,000 viewers

This averages out to 365,000 viewers for April. The final two episodes aired on May 6 and May 13. The ratings for those episodes will be provided in next month’s report. The Royals has yet to be given a fifth season renewal by E! Entertainment Network.

Billions – The Showtime drama aired five new episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 839,000 viewers
April 8 – 849,000 viewers
April 15 – 722,000 viewers
April 22 – 874,000 viewers
April 29 – 773,000 viewers

This averages out to 811,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 6, May 13 and May 20 with the next new episode of Billions set to air on Showtime on Sunday, May 27 at 10 PM.

Trust – The debut season of the FX series based on legendary Getty family aired five new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 736,000 viewers
April 8 – 602,000 viewers
April 15 – 495,000 viewers
April 22 – 538,000 viewers
April 29 – 666,000 viewers

This averages out to 607,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 6, May 13 and May 20 with the final episode of Trust set to air on FX on Sunday, May 27 at 10 PM.

Killing Eve – The new BBC America drama debuted on April 8, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 8 – 423,000 viewers (Series Debut)
April 15 – 371,000 viewers
April 22 – 388,000 viewers
April 29 – 503,000 viewers

This averages out to 421,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 6, May 13 and May 20 with the final episode of Killing Eve set to air on BBC America on Sunday, May 27 at 8 PM.

Fear the Walking Dead – The other AMC zombie-fest drama returned for the start of its 4th season on April 15, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 15 – 4.1 million viewers (Season Premiere)
April 22 – 3.1 million viewers
April 29 – 2.7 million viewers

This averages out to 3.3 million viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 6, May 13 and May 20 with the next new episode of Fear the Walking Dead set to air on AMC on Sunday, June 3 at 9 PM.

Into the Badlands – The third season of the AMC drama returned on April 22, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 22 – 1.3 million viewers (Season Premiere)
April 29 – 1.3 million viewers

This averages out to, of course, 1.3 million viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 6, May 13 and May 20 with the next new episode of Into the Badlands set to air on AMC on Sunday, June 3 at 10 PM.

Westworld – The HBO hit series returned for the start of its second season on April 22, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 22 – 2.1 million viewers (Season Premiere)
April 29 – 1.9 million viewers

This averages out to 2 million viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 6, May 13 and May 20 with the next new episode of Westworld set to air on HBO on Sunday, May 27 at 9 PM.

Howards End – The special 4-part adaptation of the classic novel aired on Starz during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 8 – 217,000 viewers (DEBUT)
April 15 – 276,000 viewers
April 22 – 207,000 viewers
April 29 – 275,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 244,000 viewers.

Good Witch – The Hallmark Channel family favorite drama returned for the start of its fourth season on April 29, earning 2.3 million viewers. New episodes aired on May 6, May 13 and May 20 with the next new episode of Good Witch set to air on Hallmark Channel set to air on Sunday, May 27 at 9 PM.

Call the Midwife – The 7th season of the period piece drama aired five episodes during April and its final episode on May 6, but no ratings could be tracked down for those episodes. Call the Midwife has yet to be renewed for an 8th season by PBS.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES

There were only six made-for-TV movies that aired during April. Here are the ratings for each:

Jesus Christ Superstar Live (NBC) – 9.3 million viewers
The Beach House (Hallmark Channel) – 2.8 million viewers
Once Upon a Prince (Hallmark Channel) – 2.6 million viewers
Reap What You Sew: An Aurora Teagarden Mystery (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 1.5 million
Paterno (HBO) – 1.3 million viewers
A Child in Time (PBS) – No ratings could be tracked down

Ratings results for the cable dramas, mini-series and made-for-TV movies that have and will air in May that can be tracked down will be provided as soon as possible in June.

There were a lot of programming options on the major networks last night, but those options included reality, the Billboard Music Awards, news and comedies. There were a few dramatics options on last night, including two finales.

Here is how all of those few Sunday dramas fared in the overall ratings last night:

8 PM Show:
NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) [NEW – Season Finale – Hour 1] – 7.5 million viewers

9 PM Show:

RENEWALS/CANCELLATIONS

Lost in Space has been given a second season renewal by Netflix. (Variety)

Freeform has given a second season order to the network’s new drama Siren. (Variety)

TNT has announced that The Last Ship will end after its upcoming fifth season, which will air sometime this summer. (Variety)

The USA Network has cancelled the drama Falling Water after two seasons. (TV By the Numbers)

Amazon has picked up The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for a third season. (Variety)

SERIES PICK-UP

The cable network EPIX has given a series order to the Batman prequel called Pennyworth that will focus on the early life of Bruce Wayne’s butler and surrogate father Alfred Pennyworth. The series will tell the story of the title character’s time as a former special-forces officer living in London and working for Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne. (Variety)

TV NEWS

The CW has announced that the December crossover event between the DC dramas – Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash and Supergirl – will involve the introduction of Batwoman as well as the city of Gotham. (The Futon Critic)

Entertainment One, the producers behind the recently canceled ABC series Designated Survivor are reportedly in talks with Netflix for a potential third season of the show. (Deadline and The Futon Critic)

CASTING NEWS

Actress Nicollette Sheridan has been promoted to series regular on The CW series Dynasty when it returns for its second season this fall. (TV Line and The Futon Critic)

Actress Sofia Pernas (The Brave) will star in the CBS summer hour-long series called Blood & Treasure. The show centers on a brilliant antiquities expert, Danny, and a cunning art thief, Lexi (Pernas), who team up to catch a ruthless terrorist who funds his attacks through stolen treasure. As they crisscross the globe hunting their target, they unexpectedly find themselves in the center of a 2,000-year-old battle for the cradle of civilization. The cast includes Katia Winter (Sleepy Hollow) and James Callis (Battlestar Galactica). (Deadline)
