Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in July:
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Opens: July 6
Two years after the events of Captain America: Civil War and before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), now under house arrest after the events of Civil War, tries to balance his home life as a father with his responsibilities as Ant-Man. When Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) present him with a new mission to bring to light secrets from their past, Lang teams up with Van Dyne as the new Wasp. The cast includes Michael Pena, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Hannah John-Kamen, Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne.
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation
Opens: July 13
Taking place a few months after the events of the previous film, the story centers on Dracula (Adam Sandler), Mavis (Selena Gomez), Johnny (Andy Samberg), and the rest of their family, both human and monster, and friends as they take a vacation on a luxury Monster Cruise Ship, where Dracula suddenly becomes attracted to the ship’s mysterious captain Ericka (Kathryn Hahn). What Dracula doesn’t know is that Erika is secretly the great-granddaughter of Abraham Van Helsing (Jim Gaffigan), the notorious monster slayer and Dracula’s ancient archenemy. Now it is time for Mavis to be the leader of the “Drac Pack” and rally up everyone so they can stop Erika and save Dracula, before it’s too late. Other voices will be provided by Kevin James, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Keegan-Michael Key, Molly Shannon, Fran Drescher, Mel Brooks, Chrissy Teigen and Joe Jonas.
Skyscraper
Opens: July 13
Former FBI agent and amputee Will Sawyer (Dwayne Johnson) lives in the tallest and “safest” skyscraper in Hong Kong with his family. The skyscraper itself, known as “The Pearl” houses several floors that function as their own society and despite the risks highlighted by Sawyer, who is the building’s head of security, his bosses insist that it is impenetrable. True to Sawyer’s belief, the building comes under attack by terrorists, forcing Sawyer to take action. Matters are complicated further when he finds himself framed for the attack, and his family trapped above the resulting fire line. The cast includes Neve Campbell, Pablo Schreiber, Byron Mann and Chin Han.
Shock & Awe
Opens: July 13
The film is about journalists investigating the assertions by the Bush Administration concerning Saddam Hussein’s alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction as an excuse for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The film stars Woody Harrelson, Tommy Lee Jones, James Marsden, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Biel, Rob Reiner and Richard Schiff.
The Equalizer 2
Opens: July 20
Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) learns that one of his longtime friends, Susan (Melissa Leo), has been murdered. McCall decides to return to his old ways and seek out, find and punish the perpetrators. The cast includes Pedro Pascal, Sakina Jeffrey, Bill Pullman and Jonathan Scarfe.
Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again
Opens: July 20
Ten years later, in the Greek island of Kalokairi, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is pregnant with Sky’s (Dominic Cooper) child while running her mother’s villa. Self-conflicted that she can’t do it by herself without her mother around, but with Tanya (Christine Baranski) and Rosie’s (Julie Walters) guidance, Sophie will find out more of Donna’s (Meryl Streep/Lily James) past and how she fronted The Dynamos, came to start up her villa on the island, meet each one of Sophie’s dads (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard and Colin Firth), and raised a daughter, bravely on her own, without a mother to guide her – with an unexpected visit from someone she had not invited or never even met: her grandmother, Ruby Sheridan (Cher). The film also stars Jessica Keenan Wynn, Alexa Davies, Jeremy Irvine, Hugh Skinner, Josh Dylan and Andy Garcia.
Damascus Cover
Opens: July 20
Agent Ari Ben-Sion (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) receives an assignment from Mossad to smuggle a chemical-weapons scientist out of Syria. When the mission goes wrong, Ben-Sion soon learns that he’s a pawn in a much bigger plan. The cast also stars Olivia Thirlby, the late John Hurt, Jurgen Prochnow and Navid Negahban.
Mission Impossible: Fallout
Opens: July 27
When an IMF mission ends badly, the world is faced with dire consequences. As Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) takes it upon himself to fulfill his original briefing, the CIA begins to question his loyalty and his motives. Hunt finds himself in a race against time, hunted by assassins and former allies while trying to prevent a global catastrophe. The film stars Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Angela Bassett, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin, Vanessa Kirby and Wes Bentley.
