Comic Con 2018 was held in San Diego from July 18 through July 22.

Our very own Dominick Dusseault was on site during the big fete, hitting up the larger panel rooms to snap as many pictures of the annual fete as possible.

Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in September:

God Bless the Broken Road
Opens: September 7

Amber Hill’s (Lindsay Pulsipher from True Blood) ideal life is shattered when she loses her husband to the war in Afghanistan. Two years later, she finds herself in a struggle to save her home while providing for her 9-year-old daughter, Bree. When up-and-coming race car driver Cody Jackson rolls into town, Amber and Bree become wrapped up in his pedal to the metal way of life. With her faith hanging in the balance, Amber is forced to decide between the broken road she knows so well or trusting in a new path that God has provided. Peppermint
Opens: September 7

A Simple Favor
Opens: September 14

The thriller centers on three small-town characters: a mom blogger (Anna Kendrick), her best friend (Blake Lively) who disappears suddenly and the latter’s husband (Henry Golding). The story includes betrayals and reversals, a dead body and the revolving question of who is duping whom. The cast includes Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks and Avengers: Age of Ultron), Eric Johnson (Rookie Blue and Fifty Shades franchise), Jean Smart (Legion and Designing Women), Rupert Friend (Homeland and Strange Angel) and Andrew Rannells (Girls and The New Normal).

Armed
Opens: September 14

Chief (Mario Van Peebles), a former U.S. Marshal, has fallen on hard times after leading undercover agents in a raid gone horribly wrong. When his old team member Jonesie (Ryan Guzman from Heroes Reborn and 9-1-1) visits, Chief finds himself caught up in a plot that he could not have imagined. The cast includes William Fichtner (Prison Break), Columbus Short (Scandal), Laz Alonso (Breakout Kings and The Mysteries of Laura) and veteran singer Dionne Warwick.

The Children Act
Opens: September 14

High Court judge, The Honorable Mrs. Justice Maye (Emma Thompson) is asked to rule in the case of a minor whose parents are refusing to allow their child to undergo a life-saving blood transfusion for religious reasons. The film also stars Stanley Tucci (Hunger Games franchise and Easy A), Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) and Ben Chaplin (Cinderella and World Without End).

Unbroken: Path to Redemption
Opens: September 14

Based on the Laura Hillenbrand bestselling book, the film begins where the hit movie Unbroken concluded, sharing the next amazing chapter of the unbelievable true story of Olympian and World War II Louis Zamperini (Samuel Hunt from Chicago Fire/Chicago PD). Haunted by nightmares of his torment, Louie sees himself as anything but a hero. Then, he meets Cynthia Applewhite (Merritt Patterson from Ravenswood and The Royals), a young woman who captures his eye and his heart. Louie’s wrathful quest for revenge drives him deeper into despair, putting the couple on the brink of divorce. Until Cynthia experiences Billy Graham’s 1949 Los Angeles Crusade, where she finds faith in God and a renewed commitment to her marriage and her husband. The cast includes Vanessa Bell Calloway (Hawthorne and Shameless), Bobby Campo (Scream: The TV Series), Bob Gunton (Royal Pains) and Gary Cole (Midnight Caller and The Good Fight).

Colette
Opens: September 21

Set at the dawn of the modern age, the film focus on Gabrielle Sidonie Colette (Keira Knightley), a young woman from a country village, who marries charismatic dominating Parisian Henry “Willy” Gauthier-Villars (Dominic West from The Affair), fourteen years her senior. Through her husband she is introduced to bohemian Paris where her creative appetite is sparked. Ever quick to capitalize on talent, Willy convinces his wife to write novels – to be published under his name. The phenomenal success of her “Claudine” series makes Willy well known as a writer and ‘Colette and Willy’ the first modern celebrity couple. Over time, lack of recognition for her work frustrates Colette, and an affair with the gender-defying Mathilde de Morny, Marquise de Belbeuf inspires her to break free, but Willy is determined to maintain his hold over her, at any cost. The film also stars Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark) and Fiona Shaw (the Harry Potter franchise and Killing Eve).

Life Itself
Opens: September 21

The film covers the different generations of people in New York and Spain and how they intertwine. The film stars Oscar Isaac (X-Men: Days of Future Past and Stars Wars), Olivia Wilde (Tron: Legacy), Mandy Patinkin (Homeland), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One and Bates Motel), Annette Bening (Being Julia) and Antonio Banderas (Genius: Picasso and Zorro franchise) [among others.

The House With a Clock In Its Walls
Opens: September 21

Ten-year-old Lewis goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house that contains a mysterious tick tock noise. When Lewis accidentally awakens the dead, the town’s sleepy facade magically springs to life with a secret world of witches and warlocks. The cast includes Jack Black (The School of Rock), Cate Blanchett (Thor Ragnarok and Cinderella), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) and Renee Elise Goldsberry (Altered Carbon and the Broadway hit Hamilton).

Little Women
Opens: September 28

A modern retelling of the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, the film will follow the lives of four sisters – Meg (Melanie Stone), Jo (Sarah Davenport), Beth (Allie Jennings), and Amy (Taylor Murphy) March – detailing their passage from childhood to womanhood. Despite harsh times, they cling to optimism, and as they mature, they face blossoming ambitions and relationships, as well as tragedy, while maintaining their unbreakable bond as sisters. The film also stars Lucas Grabeel and Lea Thompson (both from Switched at Birth) and Ian Bohen (Teen Wolf and Yellowstone).

Smallfoot
Opens: September 28

This animated film plays a twist on legends with Migo (voice by Channing Tatum), a Yeti who is convinced that the elusive creatures known as “Smallfoot” (humans) really do exist. Other voices will be provided by late night host James Corden, Zendaya (The Greatest Showman), Common (Hell on Wheels and the box office film Selma0, basketball star LeBron James, Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Yara Shahidi (Black-ish and Grown-ish).

Here is the list of the programming options to expect on TV this coming week:

On August 28, Younger will air its season finale on TV Land at 10 PM and that same night Greenleaf will air its season premiere on OWN on a special night at 10 PM. The show will then move to its regular night and time on Tuesday nights at 10 PM tomorrow.

The second season of the Netflix drama Ozark will premiere online on August 31 and that same day the new Amazon drama Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will debut online. The series will focus on up-and-coming CIA analyst, Jack Ryan (John Krasinski from The Office), is thrust into a dangerous field assignment as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit.

On September 2, Dinner for Two is the new telefilm to debut on TV One at 7 PM, starring Tristan ‘Mack’ Wilds (90210 and Shots Fired) and Chaley Rose (Nashville).

On August 31, the new Amazon drama Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will debut online today.

Up-and-coming CIA analyst, Jack Ryan (John Krasinski from The Office), is thrust into a dangerous field assignment as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit.

The cast includes Wendell Pierce (Suits) and Abbie Cornish (Geostorm and Klondike).

Here are the news items for the past week:

RENEWALS/SERIES PICK UPS

Glow has been renewed for a third season by Netflix. (Variety)

ABC has given a straight-to-series order to the drama Reef Break that will star Poppy Montgomery (Without a Trace and Unforgettable). The series will revolve around a woman who is a former thief who now works as a “fixer” for the governor of a fictional island in the Pacific. The series is based on an idea of Montgomery’s, which the network has given a 13 episode order to. It is expected to air next summer. (Variety)

Apple has given a series order to a drama based on the famed novel “Foundation” by Isaac Asimov that will revolve around the thousand year saga of the Foundation, a band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it. (Deadline and Variety)

It looks like Veronica Mars just might be coming back to the small screen via Hulu for a 4th season. While the decision has yet to be finalized, IF it goes forward it will be an 8-episode limited run with series star Kristen Bell set to return – around her schedule with the popular NBC comedy The Good Place – and series creator Rob Thomas in board as well. (Deadline)

CASTING NEWS

It looks like Brent Spiner is out but Bruce Boxleitner is in on Supergirl, taking over the role of Vice President Baker, who is described as adept and politically minded, an unlikely leader who steps up in a big way up when his country needs him most. Also, actor Anthony Konechny (Almost Human) will have a recurring role on the show, playing Agent Jensen, a DEO agent recruited by Alex (series regular Chyler Leigh) who struggles to find his footing at the DEO. (The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline)

Actress Karen David (Galavant) has landed a season-long arc on Legacies, the upcoming spin-off series from The Originals/The Vampire Diaries on The CW. The story follows the next generation of supernatural beings at the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, where 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) and others come of age in the most unconventional way possible, nurtured to be their best selves — in spite of their worst impulses — all under the watchful eye of headmaster Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis). David will play Emma Tig, a beautiful witch-turned-guidance counselor. (Deadline)

Actor Brendan Fraser has been cast as one of the leads – Robotman/Cliff Steele – in the DC Universe upcoming live-action series Doom Patrol. A former race car driver, Cliff Steele was in a horrific accident that left his body uninhabitable. Cliff’s brain was saved by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder and he lives on in a powerful robotic body. Fraser will provide the voice-over for Robotman and will appear in flashback scenes as Cliff Steele. (Deadline)

Actor Graham McTavish (Preacher and Outlander) will have a recurring role in the 4th season of Lucifer that will now be seen on Netflix, playing Father Kinley, a kind, deeply empathetic and revered priest, who is profoundly committed to guarding his flock. That includes doing whatever it takes to keep mankind safe from evil, which doesn’t bode well for a certain devil living in Los Angeles. Also, actress Inbar Lavi (Imposters) will appear as Eve – of Adam and Eve fame – who has “grown restless in her marriage and longs for a less predictable time when things were exciting.” (TV Line)

Actor Kyle Secor (Veronica Mars and The Purge: Election Year) will recur on season 5 of The Flash, playing Caitlin Snow’s hitherto absent father, an extremely intelligent geneticist who has been MIA for decades. Upon returning to Central City, he will try his best to make up for lost time with Caitlin (series regular Danielle Panabaker). (Entertainment Weekly)

Actress Jane Levy (Castle Rock and Suburgatory) will appear alongside Renee Zellweger in the upcoming new Netflix series What/If, a drama anthology from Mike Kelley that will explore the ripple effects when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. Levy will play a character named Lisa, but other details about the role are being kept quiet for now. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Actress Melanie Liburd has been promoted to series regular on This Is Us for the show’s third season, playing Zoe, Beth’s cool cousin who was seen in the season finale to be Kevin’s girlfriend, traveling to Vietnam with him. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Actor Ennis Esmer has been promoted to series regular on Blindspot, where he has been recurring as Rich Dotcom for the past three seasons. (Deadline)

Actress Dana Delany (Hand of God and China Beach) has joined the cast of the new CBS drama series The Code, which will focus on the military’s brightest minds as they take on our country’s toughest challenges – inside the courtroom and out – where each attorney is trained as a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, an investigator – and a Marine. Delany will play Colonel Eisa Turnbull, the Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps’ Judge Advocate Division. The role was played in the pilot by Mira Sorvino. (Deadline)

Actress Selma Blair has joined the cast of the Netflix sci-fi drama Another Life in a recurring role. The series centers on astronaut Niko Breckinridge (Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica and Longmire), who is focused on searching for alien intelligence. She leads a crew on a mission to explore the genesis of an alien artifact. Blair will play 21st century media influencer Harper Glass, who uses journalism, social media and keen intelligence in an attempt to break one of the biggest stories in human history. (Deadline)

Actor Esai Morales (NYPD Blue and How to Get Away With Murder) will have a recurring role on NCIS: Los Angeles, playing Deputy Director Louis Ochoa, a special prosecutor from the Department of Defense who is investigating the NCIS office and its employees. (Deadline)

Actor Reggie Lee (Grimm) has landed a major recurring role in NCIS: New Orleans, playing Assistant Special Agent in Charge Steven Thompson, who will often butt heads with Dwayne Pride (series lead Scott Bakula) as each have a very different process to approaching and prioritizing their workload. Also, actress Necar Zadegan (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce) has joined the cast of the show as a series regular, playing Hannah Khoury, a Special Agent who assumes a leadership spot on the New Orleans team in the wake of the season-ending attempt on Agent Pride’s life. (TV Line and Entertainment Weekly)

Actor Anthony Michael Hall (Dead Zone) will appear in the Riverdale flashback episode that will focus on the teen years of the parents in the show. Hall will play Principal Featherhead. (TV Line)

Oscar winner Louis Gossett Jr. will guest star in an episode of Hawaii Five-0, playing the father of Lou Grover (series regular Chi McBride, who also wrote the Thanksgiving-themed episode). (TV Line)

MOVIE CASTING NEWS

Actress Monica Barbaro (UnREAL) will join Tom Cruise and Miles Teller in Top Gun: Maverick, which will be set in a world of drone technology, exploring the end of the era of dogfighting, with Cruise portraying a flight instructor. Barbaro is expected to be a pilot who is also Teller’s love interest in the film. Val Kilmer will reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. The film is set to be released on July 12, 2019.
