There was plenty of viewing options on the cable networks throughout October, including made-for-TV movies, limited series events and plenty of dramas.
Here is how all of the cable network dramas fared in the ratings for the month of October:
CABLE DRAMAS
MONDAYS:
Better Call Saul – The AMC drama aired its final two episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 1.4 million viewers
October 8 – 1.5 million viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.5 million viewers in October. Better Call Saul was renewed by AMC for a 5th season, and will return at some point in 2019.
Lodge 49 – The new AMC dramedy aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 1 – 280,000 viewers
October 8 – 307,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 294,000 viewers in October. Lodge 49 was renewed by AMC for a second season, and will return at some point in 2019.
X Company – The final five episodes of the third and final season of the Ovation drama aired during the month, but no ratings could be tracked down.
TUESDAYS:
Carter – The new WGN America comedy-drama aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 2 – 163,000 viewers
October 9 – 171,000 viewers (Finale)
This averages out to 167,000 viewers for October. Carter has yet to be renewed for a second season by WGN America.
The Haves and the Have Nots – The popular OWN drama aired five episodes from the second half of its fifth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 2 – 1.7 million viewers
October 9 – 1.8 million viewers
October 16 – 1.7 million viewers
October 23 – 1.7 million viewers
October 30 – 1.8 million viewers
This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for October. A new episode aired on November 6 with the next new episode of The Haves and the Have Nots set to air on OWN on Tuesday, November 13 at 9 PM.
Mayans M.C. – The FX drama aired five new episodes of its debut season during the month as well as the season finale airing on October 6. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 2 – 1.4 million viewers
October 9 – 1.4 million viewers
October 16 – 1.3 million viewers
October 23 – 1.2 million viewers
October 30 – 1.2 million viewers
November 6 – 1.3 million viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for the time period. FX renewed Mayans M.C. for a second season, and it will return at some point in 2019.
The Purge – The small screen adaptation of the movie franchise aired five new episodes of its debut season during the month as well as the season finale airing on October 6. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 2 – 928,000 viewers
October 9 – 1 million viewers
October 16 – 1 million viewers
October 23 – 931,000 viewers
October 31 – 917,000 viewers
November 6 – 986,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 960,000 million viewers for September. The Purge has been renewed for a second season by the USA Network, and is expected to return some time in 2019.
WEDNESDAYS:
Greenleaf – The OWN megachurch drama aired five new episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 3 – 1.1 million viewers
October 10 – 1.2 million viewers
October 17 – 1.2 million viewers
October 24 – 1.2 million viewers
October 31 – 1.2 million viewers
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for September. A new episode aired on November 7 with the next new episode of Greenleaf set to air on OWN on Wednesday, November 14 at 10 PM.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse – The latest season of the FX anthology series aired five episode of its new season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 3 – 2 million viewers
October 10 – 2.1 million viewers
October 17 – 2 million viewers
October 24 – 1.8 million viewers
October 31 – 1.6 million viewers
This averages out to 1.9 million viewers for October. A new episode aired on November 7 with the next new episode of American Horror Story: Apocalypse set to air on FX on Wednesday, November 14 at 10 PM.
Mr. Mercedes – The Audience Network drama (available only via DirecTV) aired the final four new episodes of its second season during the month, but no ratings could not be tracked down. Mr. Mercedes has yet to be given a third season renewal by DirecTV.
THURSDAYS:
No cable dramas aired on Saturday nights during the month.
FRIDAYS:
Z Nation – The Syfy zombiefest series returned for the start of its fifth season on October 5, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 542,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 12 – 511,000 viewers
October 19 – 365,000 viewers
October 26 – 400,000 viewers
This averages out to 455,000 viewers for October. New episodes aired on November 2 and November 9 with the next new episode of Z Nation set to air on Syfy on Friday, November 16 at 9 PM.
Van Helsing – The other Syfy thriller series returned for the start of its third season on October 5, also airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 5 – 390,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 12 – 476,000 viewers
October 19 – 386,000 viewers
October 26 – 416,000 viewers
This averages out to 413,000 viewers for October. New episodes aired on November 2 and November 9 with the next new episode of Van Helsing set to air on Syfy on Friday, November 16 at 10 PM.
SATURDAYS:
Versailles – The third and final season of the period piece Ovation drama premiered on October 6, airing four episodes during the month, but no ratings could be tracked down. New episodes aired on November 3 and November 10 with the next new episode of Versailles set to air on Ovation on Saturday, November 17 at 10 PM.
SUNDAYS:
The Last Ship – The TNT military drama aired four new episodes of its fifth and final season on during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 1 million viewers
October 14 – 1.2 million viewers
October 21 – 1.3 million viewers
October 28 – 1.1 million viewers
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for October. A new episode of The Last Ship aired on November 4 and the series finale aired on November 11 on TNT. Ratings for those final episodes will be provided in next month’s report.
You – The Lifetime psychological thriller, aired four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 570,000 viewers
October 14 – 711,000 viewers
October 21 – 623,000 viewers
October 28 – 488,000 viewers
This averages out to 598,000 viewers for October. A new episode of You aired on November 4 and the season finale aired on November 11. Ratings for those final episodes will be provided in next month’s report. You was renewed for a second season by Lifetime, and is expected to air sometime next year.
Doctor Who – The new season of the doctor – with Jodie Whitaker at the helm – premiered on October 7, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 1.4 million viewers (Season Premiere)
October 14 – 1.1 million viewers
October 21 – 808,000 viewers
October 28 – 900,000 viewers
This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for October. New episodes aired on November 4 and November 11 with the next new episode of Doctor Who set to air on BBC America on Sunday, November 18 at 8 PM.
The Walking Dead – The long-running AMC drama returned for the start of its 9th season on October 7, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
October 7 – 6.1 million viewers (Season Premiere)
October 14 – 4.9 million viewers
October 21 – 5 million viewers
October 28 – 5.1 million viewers
This average out to 5.3 million viewers for October. New episodes aired on November 4 and November 11 with the next new episode of The Walking Dead set to air on AMC on Sunday, November 18 at 9 PM.
Ray Donovan – The 6th season of the Showtime drama premiered on October 28, earning 805,000 viewers. New episodes aired on November and November 11 with the next new episode of Ray Donovan set to air on Showtime on Sunday, November 18 at 9 PM.
The Durrells of Corfu – The PBS series aired four new episodes of its third season during the month but ratings could not be tracked down for those episodes. New episodes aired on November 4 and November 11with the season finale of The Durrells in Corfu set to air on PBS on Sunday, November 18 at 8 PM.
Poldark – The fourth season of the popular PBS period drama aired four new episodes during the month, but ratings could not be tracked down for those episodes. New episodes aired on November 4 and November 11 with the season finale of Poldark set to air on PBS on Sunday, November 18 at 9 PM.
The Woman in White – The five-part period drama debuted on PBS on October 21, airing two episodes during the month, but no ratings could be tracked down for those episodes. New episodes aired on November 4 and November 11 with the season finale of The Woman in White set to air on PBS on Sunday, November 18 at 10 PM.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES
There were seven made-for-TV movies that aired during October. Here are the ratings for each:
Christmas at Pemberley Manor (Hallmark Channel) – 3.6 million viewers
Love, Of Course (Hallmark Channel) – 2.6 million viewers
Good Witch: Tale of Two Hearts (Hallmark Channel) – 2.4 million viewers
Under the Autumn Moon (Hallmark Channel) – 2.4 million viewers
Falling for You (Hallmark Channel) – 2.1 million viewers
Darrow & Darrow: Body of Evidence (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 775,000 viewers
My Dinner With Herve (HBO) – 597,000 viewers
There were also two special limited series that aired during the month. They included:
Heathers – The long-overdue Paramount Network series based on the cult classic movie aired 9 of its 10 episodes during the month. The ratings for those are as follows:
October 25 (Episode 1) – 156,000 viewers
October 25 (Episode 2) – 90,000 viewers
October 26 (Episode 1) – 70,000 viewers
October 26 (Episode 2) – 68,000 viewers
October 27 (Episode 1) – 141,000 viewers
October 27 (Episode 2) – 94,000 viewers
October 28 (Episode 1) – Episodes Aired Online Only
October 28 (Episode 2) – Episodes Aired Online Only
October 29 [Truncated Finale] – 68,000 viewers
This averages out to approximately 98,000 viewers. Due to the nature of the storyline of Heathers, the series was not only truncated to an extent due to content but also two episodes were pulled due to the horrible shooting at the Pittsburgh synagogue. Needless to say, it is doubtful that the Paramount Network will move forward with any further seasons of Heathers.
Channel Zero: The Dream Door – The Syfy anthology series aired its fourth season over 6 consecutive night during the month. The ratings for those are as follows:
October 26 – 322,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 27 – 324,000 viewers
October 28 – 273,000 viewers
October 29 – 173,000 viewers
October 30 – 257,000 viewers
October 31 – 239,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This average 265,000 viewers. Channel Zero has yet to be renewed for a fifth season by Syfy.
Ratings results for the cable dramas, mini-series and made-for-TV movies that have and will air in November that can be tracked down will be provided as soon as possible in December.
