Hey All,

The news for the past week is very short, but here it is:

RENEWALS/CANCELLATIONS

AMC and the U.K. outlet Channel 4 have decided to cancel Humans, which completed its third season almost a year after the last episode aired. (Variety)

HBO has renewed Gentleman Jack for a second season. (The Futon Critic)

CASTING NEWS

Actress Holly Hunter will recur on the HBO drama Succession, playing Rhea Jarrell, the politically savvy CEO of a rival media conglomerate. (Deadline and The Futon Critic)

Actor Joshua Jackson (The Affair and Dawson’s Creek) has joined the cast of the Hulu 8-episode limited series Little Fires Everywhere that is based on the Celeste Ng 2017 bestseller that follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. Jackson will play Bill Richardson, a Shaker Heights attorney who hails from modest means, Bill is the perfectly-suited counterweight to his energetic and strong-willed wife, Elena. But when Bill agrees to represent their friends in a fiery custody battle, the couple begin to fight about more than just their challenging youngest daughter, Izzy. The cast includes Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. (The Futon Critic)

April was filled with lots of cable dramas, many of which came to an end during the month, as well as new made-for-TV movies.

Let’s take a look at the dramas first:

CABLE DRAMAS

MONDAYS:

Shadowhunters – The Freeform fantasy series aired its final 7 episodes of its third and final throughout April and on May 6 when it aired its 2 ½ hour series finale. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 367,000 viewers
April 8 – 305,000 viewers
April 15 – 335,000 viewers
April 22 – 318,000 viewers
April 29 – 332,000 viewers
May 6 – 305,000 viewers (2 ½ Hour Series Finale)

This averages out to 280,000 viewers for that time period.

Knightfall – The History Channel period piece drama aired its final 7 episodes of its second season throughout April and until May 13 when it aired its season finale. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 555,000 viewers
April 8 – 540,000 viewers
April 15 – 712,000 viewers
April 22 – 531,000 viewers
April 29 – 708,000 viewers
May 6 – 593,000 viewers
May 13 – 648,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 612,000 viewers for that time period. The History Channel has yet to renew Knightfall for a third season.

Into the Badlands – The AMC action drama aired the final 6 episodes of its third and final season during April and on May 6 when it aired its series finale. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 609,000 viewers
April 8 – 413,000 viewers
April 15 – 400,000 viewers
April 22 – 653,000 viewers
April 29 – 503,000 viewers
May 6 – 463,000 viewers (Series Finale)

This averages out to 507,000 viewers for that time period.

Gentleman Jack – The new period piece HBO drama debuted on April 22, airing two episode during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 22 – 441,000 viewers (DEBUT)
April 29 – 437,000 viewers

This averages out to 439,000 viewers for April.  New episodes aired on May 6, May 13 and May 20 with the next new episode of Gentleman Jack set to air on HBO on Monday, May 27 at 10 PM.

TUESDAYS:

The Bold Type – The Freeform drama returned for the start of its third season on April 9, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 9 – 181,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 16 – 223,000 viewers
April 23 – 241,000 viewers
April 30 – 242,000 viewers

This averages out to 222,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 7, May 14 and May 21 with the next episode of The Bold Type set to air on Freeform on Tuesday, May 28 at 8 PM.

If Loving You Is Wrong – The OWN soap opera aired the final five episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 2 – 1.1 million viewers
April 9 – 1.2 million viewers
April 16 – 1.2 million viewers
April 23 – 994,000 viewers
April 30 – 1.1 million viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for April. OWN has yet to renew If Loving You Is Wrong for a fourth season.

Fosse/Verdon – The 8-episode FX limited series debuted on April 9, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 9 – 614,000 viewers (DEBUT)
April 16 – 425,000 viewers
April 23 – 453,000 viewers
April 30 – 429,000 viewers

This averages out to 480,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 7, May 14 and May 21 with the final episode of Fosse/Verdon set to air on FX on Tuesday, May 28 at 10 PM.

Being Mary Jane – The two-hour series finale of the BET drama aired on Tuesday, April 23, earning 768,000 viewers.

WEDNESDAYS:

The Magicians – The Syfy fantasy series aired the final three episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 3 – 505,000 viewers
April 10 – 560,000 viewers
April 17 – 501,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 516,000 viewers for April. The Magicians will be back on Syfy for its fifth season sometime in 2020.

Gone – The new WGN America crime drama aired the final 7 episodes of its debut season throughout April and through April 15 when it aired its season finale. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 3 – 221,000 viewers
April 10 – 355,000 viewers
April 17 – 320,000 viewers
April 24 – 306,000 viewers
May 1 – 320,000 viewers
May 8 – 313,000 viewers
May 15 – 280,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 302,000 viewers for that time period. Gone has yet to be given a second season order.

The Perfectionists – The spin-off series from Pretty Little Liars aired the final 7 episodes of its debut season on Freeform during the month and through April 15 when it aired its season finale. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 3 – 286,000 viewers
April 10 – 314,000 viewers
April 17 – 216,000 viewers
April 24 – 241,000 viewers
May 1 – 174,000 viewers
May 8 – 199,000 viewers
May 15 – 208,000 viewers

This averages out to 234,000 viewers for that time period. Freeform has yet to give The Perfectionists a second season renewal.

THURSDAYS:

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger – The Freeform drama returned for the start of its second season on April 4, airing five episodes, including its two-hour premiere, during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 4 – 477,000 viewers (Season Premiere – Hour 1)
April 4 – 399,000 viewers (Season Premiere – Hour 2)
April 11 – 404,000 viewers
April 18 – 385,000 viewers
April 24 – 359,000 viewers

This average out to 405,000 for the month. New episodes aired on May 2, May 9, May 16 and May 23 with the season finale of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger set to air on Freeform on Thursday, May 30 at 8 PM.

FRIDAYS:

No cable dramas aired on Friday nights during the month.

SATURDAYS:

The Son – The second season of the AMC period piece drama premiered on April 27, earning 674,000 viewers. New episodes aired on May 4, May 11, May 18 and May 25 with the next new episode of The Son set to air on AMC on Saturday, June 1 at 9 PM.

SUNDAYS:

American Gods – The Starz fantasy series aired the final four episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 7 – 306,000 viewers
April 14 – 240,000 viewers
April 21 – 318,000 viewers
April 28 – 272,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 284,000 viewers for April. American Gods will be back sometime in 2020 on Starz for its third season.

Billions – The Showtime drama aired four new episodes from its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 7 – 886,000 viewers
April 14 – 751,000 viewers
April 21 – 680,000 viewers
April 28 – 741,000 viewers

This averages out to 765,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 5 and May 12 with the next new episode of Billions set to air on Showtime on Sunday, May 26 at 9 PM.

The Chi – The Showtime drama returned for the start of its second season on April 7, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 7 – 454,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 14 – 375,000 viewers
April 21 – 339,000 viewers
April 28 – 392,000 viewers

This averages out to 390,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 5 and May 12 with the next new episode of The Chi set to air on Showtime on Sunday, May 26 at 10 PM.

Killing Eve – The international hit returned for its second season on both AMC and BBC America on April 7, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

AMC Airings:
April 7 – 769,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 14 – 609,000 viewers
April 21 – 620,000 viewers
April 28 – 629,000 viewers

BBC America Airings:
April 7 – 403,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 14 – 321,000 viewers

This averages out to 657,000 for AMC and 386,000 for BBC America for April. New episodes aired on May 5, May 12 and May 19 with the season finale of Killing Eve set to air on both AMC and BBC America on Sunday, May 26 at 8 PM.

A Discovery of Witches – The Sundance Now drama debuted on AMC and BBC America on April 7, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

AMC Airings:
April 7 – 853,000 viewers (DEBUT)
April 14 – 505,000 viewers
April 21 – 539,000 viewers
April 28 – 528,000 viewers

BBC America Airings:
April 7 – 225,000 viewers (DEBUT)
April 14 – 171,000 viewers
April 21 – 137,000 viewers
April 28 – 191,000 viewers

This averages out to 606,000 viewers for AMC and 189,000 for BBC America for April. New episodes aired on May 5, May 12 and May 19 with the season finale of A Discovery of Witches set to air on both AMC and BBC America on Sunday, May 26 at 9 PM.

Game of Thrones – The long-running HBO fantasy series returned on April 14 for its 8th and final season, airing all 6 of its very last episodes throughout April and through May 19 when it aired its series finale. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 14 – 11.8 million viewers (Season Premiere)
April 21 – 10.3 million viewers
April 28 – 12 million viewers
May 5 – 11.8 million viewers
May 12 – 12.5 million viewers
May 19 – 13.6 million viewers (Series Finale)

This averages out to 12 million viewers for that time period.

Deep State – The EPIX spy drama returned for its second season starting on April 28, but no ratings could be tracked down for that episode. New episodes aired on May 5, May 12 and May 19 with the next new episode of Deep State set to air on Sunday, May 26 at 9 PM.

Private Eyes – The Canadian crime drama aired the season finale of its second season on April 7 on ION, but no ratings could be tracked down for that episode. Private Eyes has yet to be renewed for a third season.

Call the Midwife, Les Miserables and Unforgotten – All of these shows aired during April on PBS, but no ratings could be tracked down for any of them.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES

There were 8 made-for-TV movies that aired during April. Here are the ratings for those movies:

Bottled With Love (Hallmark Channel) – 2.8 million viewers
Love Takes Flight (Hallmark Channel) – 2.6 million viewers
Easter Under Wraps (Hallmark Channel) – 2.3 million viewers
True Love Blooms (Hallmark Channel) – 2.1 million viewers
Morning Show Mysteries: Death By Design (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 1.1 million viewers

On May 29, the new NBC drama The InBetween will debut at 10 PM.

Cassie Bedford (Harriet Dyer from the Australian series Love Child) was born with a rare ability. She has visions. Whether she likes it or not. Sometimes Cassie sees events that have previously occurred or will happen in the future.

In addition, sometimes she encounters unsettled spirits who need her help. When her father, Det. Tom Hackett (Paul Blackthorne from Arrow), and his new partner, former FBI Agent Damien Asante (Justin Cornwell from Training Day), need assistance solving a dark and puzzling murder, Cassie reluctantly agrees to use her abilities and helps solve some of the city’s most challenging cases.

The cast include Chad James Buchanan (Star), Cindy Luna (The Last Ship) and Anne-Marie Johnson (In the Heat of the Night).

The new Lifetime movie Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal will debut on May 27 at 8 PM.

The sequel to the 2018 Lifetime movie A Royal Romance, this film continues the love story of newlyweds Prince Harry (Charlie Field from Genius) and American actress Meghan Markle (Tiffany Smith from Supernatural), pulling back the curtain to reveal the untold joys and challenges of life inside the Royal Family during their pivotal first year of marriage. Beyond blending their families and cultures, Harry and Meghan’s core values are put to the test as they try to find the balance between honoring Royal tradition and staying true to their beliefs.

The National Geographic 3-night event series The Hot Zone will debut on May 27 at 9 PM.

Based on the eponymous international best-seller by Richard Preston, the 3-part series recounts the terrifying true story of the origins of the Ebola virus, a highly infectious deadly virus from the central African rain forest, and its first arrival on U.S. soil.

In 1989, when this killer suddenly appeared in chimpanzees in a scientific lab in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., there was no known cure. A heroic U.S. Army veterinarian working with a secret military SWAT team put herself in mortal peril when she tried to head off the outbreak before it spread to the human population.

The cast includes Julianna Margulies, Nick Searcy, Robert Sean Leonard, Topher Grace, James D’Arcy, Liam Cunningham, Noah Emmerich and Robert Wisdom.

NOTE: The show will air its second and third episodes at 9 PM on May 28 and May 29.
