Last night’s prime time line-up was filled with football, the Miss Universe pageant, reality and news, but there was also a fall finale, a series finale, and new episodes of most of the Sunday night dramas.

Here is how those Sunday night dramas fared in the overall ratings:

8 PM Shows:
God Friended Me (CBS) [NEW – Delayed Due to Football] – 6.7 million viewers
Supergirl (The CW) [NEW – Special Time – Part 1 of 5, Crossover Event] – 1.7 million viewers

9 PM Show:
NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) [NEW – Delayed Due to Football] – 5.8 million viewers

10 PM Shows:
Madam Secretary (CBS) [NEW – Series Finale – Delayed Due to Football] – 5.3 million viewers
The Rookie (ABC) [NEW – Fall Finale] – 3.7 million viewers

Here is the long list of the programming options to expect on TV this coming week:

On December 9, Batwoman will air on The CW at 8 PM as part 2 of the 5-part Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Then on December 10, The Flash will air on The CW at 8 PM as part 3 of the 5-part Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.  NOTE:  The final 2 parts of the 5-part crossover event will air on January 14, covering Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

The season finale of Castle Rock will air online on Hulu on December 11.

On December 12, the Sundance Now series Cheat will air its season finale online.

The fourth season premiere on The Expanse will air on Amazon on December 13. Also on December 13, Marvel’s Runaways will air its third season premiere online on Hulu.

The Netflix feature film 6 Underground will debut online on December 13. Six individuals form a vigilante squad after faking their deaths in order to take down notorious criminals. All of them were brought to the team by its leader (Ryan Reynolds) for their unique skills and a desire to erase their past and change the future. The film also stars Melanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Goliath), Adria Arjona (Emerald City and Good Omens), Corey Hawkins (24: Legacy), Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Dave Franco.

Also on December 13, the new Lifetime movie Christmas Stars will debut at 8 PM. When aspiring R&B artist Layla (Erica Durance) crosses paths with amateur songwriter Spence (newcomer J.T. Hodges), she thinks she’s found her shot at finally getting a record deal. But as the holidays approach, the fast-paced, high stakes music business threatens to change their sound and relationship – especially when the label executives begin to see Spence as the real star.

The following holiday movies will debut on December 14:

Matchmaker Christmas on Lifetime at 6 PM, starring Emily Rose (Haven) and Corey Sevier (Cedar Cove).
Christmas in Montana on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries at 9 PM, starring Kellie Martin (ER and Life Goes On) and Colin Ferguson (Eureka.

Here are the news items for this past week:

MOVIE CASTING NEWS

Actor Peter Sarsgaard has joined the cast of The Batman that will find former Twilight star Robert Pattinson taking over the lead role. Saarsgard will appear as, well, that hasn’t been released yet; but Zoe Kravitz will play Catwoman, Andy Serkis will play Pennyworth, Paul Dano will play The Riddler and Colin Farrell with be the Penguin with Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. (Deadline)

Actors Matthew Macfadyen (Succession and Pride & Prejudice) and Tom Wilkinson (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) and actress Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey) will star with Colin Firth and Kelly Macdonald in the WWII drama Operation Mincemeat, which will be set in 1943, following two brilliant intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu (Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley (Macfadyen) who conceived a plan that was dubbed Operation Mincemeat. They would trick the Nazis into thinking that Allied forces were planning to attack southern Europe by way of Greece rather than Sicily. Their plan was to get a corpse, equip it with misleading papers, then drop it off the coast of Spain where Nazi spies would take the bait. (Deadline)

STREAMING SERVICE CASTING NEWS

Actor Finn Jones (Game of Thrones and Iron Fist) and Pico Alexander (Home Again) will star alongside actress Hailee Steinfeld in the second season of the Apple TV+ series Dickinson. Jones will Samuel Bowles, an energetic and magnetic newspaper editor while Alexander will play Henry “Ship” Shipley, a dropout of Amherst College and a boarder with the Dickinsons. (Deadline)

Actor Will Yun Lee will be back in the second season of Altered Carbon. He played the original version of Takeshi Kovacs in the streaming show’s first season, but it is unclear who will play in the show’s second. (Deadline and TV Guide)

TV CASTING NEWS

Actress Hilarie Burton (One Tree Hill and White Collar) has landed a recurring role in the upcoming NBC mid-season drama Council of Dads that follows loving father of five Scott Perry, who calls upon his most trusted friends to step in as back-up dads after an unexpected health scare. Burton will play Margot, a funny, intelligent foodie and restaurant group executive manager who becomes a love interest for Clive Standen’s character Anthony, who is Scott’s oldest pal. Council of Dads will debut in March 2020. (TV Line)

Actor Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones) has been cast as a new leprechaun in American Gods, following the departure of Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney in the show’s second season. (TV Line)
