Despite productions being halted for almost two months now, there are still a lot of programming options on the cable networks. There were a lot of cable dramas airing new episodes throughout April along with a little over a handful of made-for-TV movies.

Let’s take a look at the ratings for the dramas first:

CABLE DRAMAS

MONDAYS:

Better Call Saul – The AMC drama aired the final three episodes of its 5th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 6 – 1.4 million viewers
April 13 – 1.5 million viewers
April 20 – 1.6 million viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 1.5 million viewers for April. Better Call Saul has been renewed for a 6th and final season by AMC; and is anticipated to be back sometime in 2021.

Dispatches From Elsewhere – The new AMC anthology drama aired the final four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 6 – 292,000 viewers
April 13 – 269,000 viewers
April 20 – 212,000 viewers
April 27 – 198,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 243,000 viewers for April. AMC has yet to renew Dispatches From Elsewhere for a second season.

The Plot Against America – The alternate reality period piece aired the final three episodes of its one and only season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 6 – 420,000 viewers
April 13 – 433,000 viewers
April 20 – 392,000 viewers (Series Finale)

This averages out to 415,000 viewers for April. The Plot Against America was a limited series on HBO with only one season.

Briarpatch – The USA Network series aired the final two episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 6 – 485,000 viewers
April 13 – 449,000 viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 467,000 for April. The USA Network has yet to renew Briarpatch for a second season.

Almost Paradise – The new Christian Kane tropical-set drama aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 6 – 263,000 viewers
April 13 – 188,000 viewers
April 20 – 226,000 viewers
April 27 – 207,000 viewers

This averages out to 221,000 for April. New episodes aired on May 4, May 11 and May 18 with the next new episode of Almost Paradise set to air on WGN America on Monday, May 25 at 10 PM.

TUESDAYS:

If Loving You Is Wrong – The OWN drama aired four new episodes from its fifth season aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 7 – 1.1 million viewers
April 14 – 1 million viewers
April 21 – 946,000 viewers
April 28 – 1.2 million viewers

This average out to 1.1 million viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 5 and May 12 with the next episodes of If Loving You Is Wrong set to air on OWN on Tuesday, May 19 at 10 PM.

WEDNESDAYS:

Motherland: Fort Salem – The new supernatural Freeform drama aired five new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 1 – 341,000 viewers
April 8 – 245,000 viewers
April 15 – 289,000 viewers
April 22 – 324,000 viewers
April 29 – 243,000 viewers

This averages out to 288,000 for April. New episodes aired on May 6 and May 13 with the next episode of Motherland: Fort Salem set to air on Freeform on Wednesday, May 20 at 9 PM.

THURSDAYS:

Siren – The Freeform fantasy series returned for the start of its 3rd season on April 2 with a two-hour premiere airing six episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 2 – 509,000 viewers (Season Premiere, Hour 1)
April 2 – 401,000 viewers (Season Premiere, Hour 2)
April 9 – 416,000 viewers
April 16 – 369,000 viewers
April 23 – 423,000 viewers
April 30 – 340,000 viewers

This averages out to 410,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 7 and May 14 with the next new episode of Siren set to air on Freeform on Thursday, May 21 at 10 PM.

Vagrant Queen – The new sci-fi series was moved to Thursday nights at 11 PM starting on April 23, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 23 – 182,000 viewers
April 30 – 168,000 viewers

This averages out to 175,000 viewers for April. New episodes of Vagrant Queen aired on May 7 and May 14 with the next new episode of Vagrant Queen set to air on Syfy on Thursday, May 21 at 11 PM.

FRIDAYS:

Strike Back – The Cinemax military drama aired its last 3 episodes EVER during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 3 – No numbers could be tracked down
April 10 – No numbers could be tracked down
April 17 – 133,000 viewers (Series Finale)

SATURDAYS:

Frankie Drake Mysteries – The third season of the period piece drama get underway on Ovation starting on April 4, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 4 – 177,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 11 – 156,000 viewers
April 18 – 152,000 viewers
April 25 – 176,000 viewers

This averages out to 165,000 viewers for April. New episodes aired on May 2, May 9 and May 16 with the next new episode of Frankie Drake Mysteries set to air on Ovation on Saturday, May 23 at 7 PM.

SUNDAYS:

Homeland – The long-running Showtime drama aired the final four episodes EVER during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 5 – 809,000 viewers
April 12 – 893,000 viewers
April 19 – 958,000 viewers
April 26 – 1.3 million viewers (Series Finale)

This averages out to 990,000 viewers for April.

Outlander – The popular Starz drama, based on the Diana Gabaldon franchise book series, aired three new episodes in April and its final two episodes of its its fifth season during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 5 – No episode aired
April 12 – 784,000 viewers
April 19 – 837,000 viewers
April 26 – 850,000 viewers
May 3 – 866,000 viewers
May 10 – 855,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 838,000 viewers for April and May. Outlander will be back for a 6th season on Starz at some point, hopefully, in late 2021.

When Calls the Heart – The final four episode of the 7th season of the popular Hallmark Channel period drama aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 5 – 2.3 million viewers
April 12 – 2.3 million viewers
April 19 – 2.5 million viewers
April 26 – 2.7 million viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 2.5 million viewers for April. When Calls the Heart was renewed by the Hallmark Channel for an 8th season, but it is unclear when new episodes will air.

When Hope Calls – The spin-off to When Calls the Heart aired the final four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

April 5 – 1.7 million viewers
April 12 – 1.7 million viewers
April 19 – 1.7 million viewers
April 26 – 1.8 million viewers (Finale)

This averages out to 1.7 million viewers for April. The Hallmark Channel has yet to announced if When Hope Calls has been renewed or not.

Killing Eve – The pop culture phenom returned for its 3rd season on both AMC and BBC America starting on April 12, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

AMC:
April 12 – 621,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 19 – 440,000 viewers
April 26 – 535,000 viewers

BBC America:
April 12 – 443,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
April 19 – 342,000 viewers
April 26 – 334,000 viewers

This averages out to 532,000 viewers for AMC and 373,000 viewers for BBC America. New episodes aired on May 3, May 10 and May 17 with the next new episode of Killing Eve set to air on both AMC and BBC America on May 24.

The Walking Dead – The final episode of the AMC zombiefest aired on April 5, earning 3.5 million viewers. The Walking Dead will be back for an 11th season, but it’s unknown when it will return.

War of the Worlds – The EPIX alien invasion drama aired its final episode on April 5, but ratings for that episode could not be tracked down. EPIX has yet to renew War of the Worlds for a second season.

Belgravia – The Julian Fellowes period piece drama debuted on EPIX on April 12, airing three episodes during the month, but no ratings could be tracked down for any of those episodes. New episodes, including the finale, aired during May. There are no plans for a second season of Belgravia to air on EPIX.

Call the Midwife – The long-running PBS period piece drama aired new episodes during April, but ratings could not be tracked down for those episodes. New episodes, including the finale, aired during May. A 10th season of Call the Midwife has yet to be announced.

World on Fire – The period piece drama debuted on PBS on April 12, airing episodes during April, but no ratings could be tracked down. New episodes, including the finale, aired during May. A second season of World on Fire was ordered, but it is uncertain when it will air on PBS.

Baptiste – The drama also debuted on PBS on April 12, airing episodes during April, but no ratings could be tracked down. New episodes, including the finale, aired during May. A second season of Baptiste has yet to be announced.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES

There were 8 made-for-TV movies that aired during April. Here are the ratings for those movies that could be tracked down:

The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel (Lifetime) – 2.7 million viewers
You’re Bacon Me Crazy (Hallmark Channel) – 2.6 million viewers
Nature of Love (Hallmark Channel) – 2.3 million viewers
Fashionably Yours (Hallmark Channel) – 1.8 million viewers
Matchmaker Mysteries: A Fatal Romance (Hallmark Channel/Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) [combined average] – 1.4 million viewers
Ruby Herring Mysteries: Prediction Murder (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – 1.3 million viewers

Here is the list of the programming options to expect on TV this coming week:

On May 18, DC’s Stargirl will debut on DC Universe. The series follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to take up the legacy of a long lost superhero team – The Justice Society of America – and stop the villains of the past. The cast includes Amy Smart, Luke Wilson, Joel McHale, Neil Jackson and Neil Hopkins [among others]. The show will also debut on The CW on May 19 at 8 PM.

The new Netflix drama Sweet Magnolias debuts online on May 19. The series based on the novels by Sherryl Woods follows three South Carolina women (JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley), best friends since high school, as they shepherd each other through the complexities of romance, career and family. The cast includes Chris Klein, Jamie Lynn Spears and Justin Bruening.

On May 20, the 7th and final season of The 100 will premiere on The CW at 8 PM while that same night the season finale of S.W.A.T. will air at 10 PM on CBS.

The season premiere of Burden of Truth will air on The CW on May 21 at 8 PM; also that night the NBC special Red Nose Day Special will air for 2 hours, starting at 9 PM.

Lastly, the season premiere of Homecoming will air on Amazon online on May 22.
