The HBO Max (formerly DC Universe) superhero series Titans will make its network TV debut on TNT on July 12 at 10 PM.

Show Synopsis: The first season of the series loosely based on Teen Titans, the focus is on vigilante Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) leaves Gotham City for Detroit in an effort to distance himself from his mentor Bruce Wayne (Iain Glen). Joined by Kory Anders (Anna Diop), an amnesiac woman with solar-based powers, and Gar Logan (Ryan Potter), an animal shapeshifter, the four battle a threat that puts the entire world at risk.

The cast also includes Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall aka Hawk, Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger aka Dove, Conor Leslie as Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl and Curran Walters as Jason Todd aka (the new) Robin (later Red Hood).

On July 10, the Christmas in July made-for-TV movie Crashing Through the Snow will debut on Hallmark Channel at 9 PM.

Maggie (Amy Acker from Person of Interest and Angel) and her ex-husband, Jeff (Kristian Bruun from Orphan Black), have always been friends first. When Jeff’s new girlfriend, Kate (Brooke Nevin), spontaneously invites Maggie along to their Christmas getaway in Aspen, she jumps at the chance to spend a Yuletide holiday away with her two daughters.

Although Maggie feels like a third wheel crashing their Christmas, she’s not alone as Kate’s hapless brother, Sam (Warren Christie from Alphas and Batwoman), shows up unannounced with a plan. Always seeming to live in Kate’s shadow, Sam, for once, wants to come out ahead, and he convinces Maggie that, together, they can compete with Kate and make this Christmas the best one ever. Neither of them is adequately prepared for the blended family challenges that lie ahead or the feelings they develop for one another.

Hey All,

First of all, I hope all those who celebrate the Happy Fourth of July enjoyed the day!

And now, here are the news items for the past week:

RENEWALS/CANCELLATION

HBO has pulled the plug on Lovecraft Country after only one season. (TV Line)

IMDbTV is eyeing the cancelled ABC drama For Life for a third season, as the streamer is set to air the first (and only) two seasons.  (Variety)

Amazon Prime has renewed Good Omens for a second season. (TV Line)

TV CASTING NEWS

Apple has ordered an 8-episode series adaptation of the book City on Fire by Garth Risk Hallberg. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will be in charge of the production that focuses on what happens when an NYU student is shot in Central Park on the 4th of July in 2003. Samantha Cicciaro is alone; there are no witnesses and very little physical evidence. Her friends’ band is playing her favorite downtown club but she leaves to meet someone, promising to return. She never does. As the crime against Samantha is investigated, she’s revealed to be the crucial connection between a series of mysterious city-wide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family fraying under the strain of the many secrets they keep. (Variety)

The one and only Kelly Bishop (Gilmore Girls) will be joining the cast of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for the show’s upcoming 4th season. Details, of course, are being kept under wraps as to what role she will play in the series. (TV Line)

The Netflix crime thriller Ozark has added new recurring cast members to its upcoming 4th and final season. They are Veronica Falcon (Queen of the South) and Ali Stroker (Tony-winning Glee Project veteran). Falcon will play Camila, the sister of drug cartel leader Omar Navarro (Felix Solis) whose son Javi Elizonndro (Alfonso Herrera) is scheming to take over his uncle’s cartel. Meanwhile, Stroker will play Charles-Ann, an old friend of Ruth’s (Julia Garner) mother, who lends her a hand when she is in need of some assistance. (The Hollywood Reporter)

The Starz Watergate drama Gaslit, which will star Julia Roberts and Sean Penn has added recurring cast members, including Allison Tolman (Fargo) J.C. MacKenzie (The Trial of the Chicago 7), Chris Bauer (True Blood), Hamish Linklater (Legion) and Chris Messina (Birds of Prey). The series is a modern take on Watergate, focusing on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the scandal – from Nixon’s bumbling, opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down. (Deadline)

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

Netflix has ordered a 10-episode series based on the young adult novel My Life With the Walter Boys by author Ali Novak. The show will follow 16-year old Manhattanite Jackie Howard who, after the loss of her family in a tragic accident, has to learn to adapt to a new life in rural Colorado with her guardian – and 12 very rowdy kids. (Variety)

STREAMING SERVICE MOVIE NEWS

Dwayne Johnson will star in the Amazon Studios film Red One, which is being described as a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, which imagines a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre. (Variety)

BOX OFFICE NEWS

The action thriller Havoc that will star Tom Hardy and Forest Whitaker has added Timothy Olphant (Justified) and Justin Cornwell (The Umbrella Academy) to its cast. The film takes place after a drug deal gone wrong, centering on a bruised detective who must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, while unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city. (Variety)

Oscar-nominated Vanessa Kirby has joined the cast of the film The Son, the follow-up to the Oscar-winning feature film The Father. Kirby will star in the film opposite Laura Dern and Hugh Jackman. The film focuses on Peter (Jackman) as his busy life with new partner Emma (Kirby) and their baby is thrown into disarray when his ex-wife Kate (Dern) turns up with their teenage son, Nicholas. The young man is troubled, distant and angry, playing truant from school for months. Peter strives to be a better father, searching to help his son with those intimate and instinctive moments of family happiness. But the weight of Nicholas’ condition sets the family on a dangerous course. (Variety)

That’s it. Enjoy!
